I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll was a solid psychological thriller. The story is told from 3 viewpoints - Alice (the reporter who has gotten several threatening messages always on a Wednesday), Matthew (the PI hired to protect Alice), and the “bad guy”. I enjoyed the alternating chapters and the story really kept me guessing until the end!

A gripping thriller revolving around Alice, a journalist with a past that the reader discovers as the mystery of the stalker begins to unfold. Broken down into chapters that builds the story through the eyes of Alice and Him, the atmosphere becomes more chilling as each Wednesday is reached, which is the day that things always happen. I was uncertain as to who the stalker was until almost the end as i am sure the author intended. A.good read as it kept me wanting to know more.

Great suspense!! This author, like her other book, gives the reader a good dose of thrills and chills! I am always looking forward to her books.

My Thoughts
This is a decent thriller spoiled by some irritating flaws. Here are my pros and cons for I Will Make You Pay:

Pros
1. Intriguing premise.
2. You will know, at least generally, who the stalker is because of the way the book is set up. You learn about “him” via his own chapters. The surprise is finding out who “him” is. I thought I knew, and I didn’t.
3. I did like the alternating viewpoints between Alice, Matthew (the PI), and the stalker. The chapters also alternate between past and present timelines. This method added a dimension to the story that I appreciated.
4. The story will definitely make you wary of Wednesdays!

Cons
1. This book was so slow and repetitive it was a bit ridiculous. Alice kept saying the same things, she kept thinking the same things, she kept doing the same things. UGH! It got really old. Cut out the repetitiveness and I bet this book drops by 50 pages at least.
2. Alice hated being called stubborn in the story, but my goodness… she was the most ridiculously stubborn character I think I’ve ever read! It seems that every action Alice took was to her detriment. But she felt she was being strong or brave or some other nonsense. Seriously, Alice drove me nuts.
3. The writing felt choppy and weird to me. There were incomplete sentences and random thoughts from time to time. It was distracting.
4. The ending was too abrupt and contrived. Very unsatisfying. Even the epilogue felt flat.
5. I did figure out quite early on what the connection was between the stalker and Alice. To me the connection was shockingly obvious, so I’m not sure if the author intended it to be that obvious or not. Either way, knowing the connection between Alice and the stalker kind of made the other storylines about the possible identity of the stalker a pointless distraction.

Summary
Honestly, I was on the fence about what rating to give this book. I finally decided, based on my blog’s published rating scale, this has to be a 2-star book. Even though I generally enjoyed the story, there were too many flaws for me overall and I probably wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone else unless they are super fans of any kind of thriller or they are particularly interested in novels about stalkers.

This story kept me guessing and turning pages to find out who “he” was. It was very well written with just the right amount of suspense.

Don’t read this book on a Wednesday, you won’t be able to sleep. Keeps you gripped from page one. Brilliant book from a brilliant author.

Had me hooked from the start. I was certain I knew who it was - I was wrong. I love it when I get it wrong! One nagging irritation, PI Mathew's daughter was going through terrible two's, yet was carrying on conversations more on par with a 4 year old. Just a little gripe. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Alice was an extremely likeable character, to keep me invested and keep turning pages.

When I saw the title and read the synopsis, I envisioned a series of sinister, frightening, and chilling events. I went into the story with expectations of a fast-paced thriller, which would have me on the edge of my seat and create a feeling of fear for the characters involved. Alas, I experienced none of these feelings. Instead, I got a slow moving mystery, which kept me guessing, minus the thrills and suspense.

The story began on an exciting note. It was a typical Wednesday for Journalist Alice Henderson, but that was until she received a threatening phone call, which would turn the life she worked so hard to maintain upside down. Since then every Wednesday like clockwork her stalker strikes. Who wants to make her pay and why?

Told from POVs of Alice, the stalker and Michael, the Private Investigator who was hired by Alice’s boyfriend to investigate the stalking and protect Alice. It gave me a front-row seat into the lives and minds of these characters. The stalker’s POV focused on his past as a child while Alice and Michael’s POV was based on current events.

I found the stalker’s POV interesting. Despite having the love of his grandmother, he came face to face with horrors that no child should have to encounter. As a result, he became mentally unstable.

Alice had her share of pain in the past. I admired her ability to bounce back from the tragic event in her past. I had a problem with some of her choices, putting herself in unnecessary danger and placing those around her at risk.

I am at a loss how Michael’s viewpoint added to the story. His interactions with his wife and daughter had nothing to do with the plot, so I am not sure why it was included in the story.

The stalker was on my list of suspects, so I was not surprised when his identity was revealed. However, I felt cheated by the revelation his identity. Cheated, because I was hoping it would be dramatic, instead it was unimpressive.

Conclusion/Recommendation
To conclude, although it wasn’t what I expected, I thought the story was well written. I would recommend this book to fans of slow burn mysteries.

Amazingly fast paced and twisted. I Will Make You Pay had me puzzled right up to the reveal. Alice was a pretty strong character but still did some stupid things. I guess it just shows she is human. This is probably the best book in this genre I have read this year. Kudos!

Certainly a book that I could not put down! I have not read Theresa Driscoll before but I will definitely be looking up her other titles now.

This book is incredibly emotional but has all the twists and turns a good thriller should. I felt like I knew the characters inside out, they were completely relatable. Well worth a read!

Teresa Driscoll is becoming one of my favourite authors by far.

I devour her books in one sitting and if I am unable to because of time, I am counting down the hours until i can read the book again.

This book was fantastic. It was suspensful, gripping and the storyline as amazing.

I cannot wait for her next book.

This story begins when Alice, a journalist, receives a threatening phone call at work. At first everyone around her tries to convince her it is a one-off and not to take it too seriously. However, every Wednesday after that phone call something happens and it is clear that Alice is the target. Her boyfriend Tom hires a private investigator to trail her every move on Wednesdays as that is always the day her stalker makes contact.

When the private investigator learns Alice has been withholding big pieces of information from him and the police, he isn’t sure what to think. He doesn’t feel right walking away from Alice, especially as the threats escalate, but he also doesn’t know who is responsible. Is it someone from her past looking for revenge? How can he keep Alice safe?

I read I Am Watching You from Teresa Driscoll and really enjoyed it. When I saw she has another book out, I wanted to read it and had high hopes going in. The author shares she had a situation with a stalker in her early days as a journalist. I think a big part of her motivation to write this was to create a fictional story that helped her work through the experience she had. This story definitely had some suspense and initially kept me interested, but for some reason after awhile I just wanted answers. After many chapters the two different POVs felt distracting, we hear from Alice and HIM (who we assume is the stalker although it isn’t clear). I’m glad I picked this one up, but it didn’t blow me away. Thank you Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for this advance reading copy.

This is your quintessential thriller. The who done it is not one you would never expect. Which makes it all the more fun to read. You guess a million times over, and even begin to wonder if somewhere in the back of her she was doing it to herself. When the person and their backstory was revealed I was left gobsmacked. It made beautiful sense in the end, but the build up to it was nothing short of a very properly written, heart pounding, thriller.

Having previously read and adored The Promise, I was delighted to be afforded the opportunity to read Teresa Driscoll’s latest novel - I Will Make You Pay - which held no let-downs for me. I really love a good psychological thriller and this one was exactly that.

This novel had me weirded out and on-edge almost immediately; I imagine there’s nothing like taking a phone call and receiving a graphically chilling death threat! The victim and strong independent journalist Alice Henderson, was just one of the protagonists and the book was written in one of my preferred formats; with a few different points of view. Chapters were highlighted as being from Alice, Matthew (an ex-policeman hired as a bodyguard) and “Him” (the villain). These chapters successfully married together to build the level of suspense and create this masterful story. I really appreciated the chapters from the villain as it made his motivation more convincing.

I Will Make You Pay really had it all - a complex and intelligent plot, memorable characters, believable and logical dialogue and a hugely fulfilling and satisfying conclusion.

Very highly recommended.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel at my own request from the publisher, via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Wednesdays now bring a sense of dread to Alice after a series of threats and attacks, always on this day. Wednesdays have a significant meaning to somebody.

Alice is a journalist, being stalked. Alice’s past is brought to light in the investigation. Alice’s, supportive boyfriend Tom, hires PI Matthew Hill to provide additional assistance and bring this stalker to justice.

A truly gripping psychological thriller page turner, read this book in one sitting.

This is the second book by Teresa Driscoll that I have read and they have both been very good. I like the way she keeps the reader guessing throughout. Although I guessed who the stalker was I also changed my mind several times throughout the book.

This is the first book in a long time that I have actually wanted to get back to so I can find out what happens after I have put it down. Very well written, sensible order of the story and keeps you guessing. Thoroughly enjoyed.

I Will Make You Pay, is a fantastic thriller written by Teresa Driscoll. Although, this is my first read by Ms. Driscoll it will not be my last.

The story is fantastic and thrilling. It starts with a journalist that starts to receive “pranks” she writes off as nothing. It quickly escalates into a fantastic suspense thriller worthy of a read.

This is only the second book I have read by Teresa and as soon as I started reading this I recognised her style of writing, I loved her book The Promise, so I couldn't wait to get stuck into this one! I enjoyed this book, the premise and really felt for poor Alice, but I really wanted to be more afraid for her, her stalker always doing something on a Wednesday really piqued my interest and I was desperate to find out why a Wednesday was so significant. The story is told from Alice, the stalker and the PI Matters point of view. I felt there could have been more from the stalker, but the premise of what he endured was there without the gory details, which I guess was a blessing, your own imagination could fill in the blanks. There was a lot of Matthews life that was discussed that didn't really add anything major to the story - at one point I thought something was going to happen his wife of daughter due to the amount of time they got.

I have to say that this was a very clever, well thought out book, I had my suspicions as to the stalker might have been but boy was a shocked when the true identity was revealed! It floored me! I may just have found a new must buy author in this genre!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll.

For the past few Wednesdays, Alice has been receiving seemingly innocuous anonymous threats where she works. Dismissing them as a pranks, the Alice, and her agency, don't take them seriously until an extra ominous threat came in with a voice modulator...

"I'm going to use cheese wire on you."

This is a thriller told in three different voices, leading you down several rabbit holes of suspicion. I did enjoy this one, it was fast paced and readable. But as far as thrillers go, it was also pretty forgettable. Not much standing out about this one that I would be super excited to recommend out. But also, nothing terrible about it either.
