Settle in for a creepy mystery. Alice works as a reporter for a newspaper and begins getting threatening calls which build up to different events every Wednesday. The book does take place with different POV from past and the present. The build up to the ending and who the stalker is had me caught unaware. The ending was amazing. Hurry out and get this book!
Wednesday. The horror day. The only day of the week when bad things happen. Alice is a journalist who starts to have crazy, stalkerish things happen to her on Wednesdays. Eventually the crazy stalking ramps up and we find ourselves in the midst of of a great thrilling read.
I’m a huge Teresa Driscoll fan. I loved how DI Melanie Sanders and investigator Matthew Hill appear in her latest novel as well. Don’t worry, you do not have to have read any of her other books, but you should if you haven’t! I love it when characters I enjoy and become familiar with make their rounds in other novels!!
Back to the book. Alice’s past history is a little crazy. I don’t want to say too much because it unfolds itself in the book and well, I don’t want you to read the book saying, “What is she talking about, she said this, but I don’t see it…” and then boom, I kinda ruined a pivotal part of the book. Haha.
Alice’s boyfriend hires Matthew Hill to take on the case. I mean, the police can only do so much and with every Wednesday things get a little more intense. Hill essentially gets hired to do all of his investigating on Wednesdays when he acts as Alice’s bodyguard to keep her safe those days. Alice ends up to start to do her own digging…oh yes, it’s a doozy!!
5 stars. Sure, I may be partial to Driscoll, but I would also be the first to be disappointed if this novel did not hold up to her others and honestly…I think this may be her best to date!! I thought I had it figured out, I really did…I didn’t. It was so creatively done, just an absolutely well written, well done thrilling mystery. It will be hard to top this one for me this year with any other thrillers out there, that’s for sure!!

This story was a perfect read for this creepy time of year due to the fact that it is something that could happen to anyone. The main character, Alice, is a strong yet fragile woman who has been through a lot in life and is easy for someone to like and relate to. The frustration that I felt along with Alice is something that nobody going through this situation should have to feel but do have to deal with due to the laws in many places. There was lots of action and suspense and a twist at the end. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley.
A woman is being terrorized every Wednesday and it is escalating. Her boyfriend is worried enough he hires a private investigator. Her sister is worried enough that she squirrels her away in her vacation home. But it continues. The characters development and story were all well written. I know it is picky, but my biggest issue with the story was the naming of characters. I am seeing it (or noticing it) more and more. In this book there was Alice, Alex, Tom, Ted, Matthew, and Melanie. Really? There are 26 letters in the alphabet. I wish authors would spread out the names to make it easier for readers to quickly learn and separate the characters. More than once I had to stop and think about which one was Alice's boss and which one was her boyfriend. Other than that, I enjoyed reading the book and the little twists Ms. Driscoll hid along the way.

Alice Henderson, a journalist received a threat call on a Wednesday. After that she came to know that that was just the beginning.
Her boyfriend, Tom hired a private detective by the name of Matthew who worked closely with the police to discover her stalker.
There were three POV's, Alice, Mathew and an anonymous POV. This story is beautifully written from the beginning to the end. Although the ending was a bit explosive. I didn't guess about that.
Highly recommended.
A very well written story and one I found hard to put down. I loved it. It was a real page turner. Surprising and unexpected with a great ending. A perfect read.
When I started reading this, I wasn't sure what the story was going to be. I forgot what the synopsis was and was just really interested by the cover. It was a little slow going for the first 10%, but then when the story really got going I was hooked. I couldn't stop reading. I didn't see some of the twists coming.
I did see the ending, but only maybe two pages before we found out the truth. And that was only because I didn't want it to be a certain person. I have to be vague to avoid spoilers.
I loved Alice's story and how she was trying to stay strong. She didn't want to be a victim. I felt sorry for a victim. You could understand what made him snap. I loved the epilogue and think it would be cool if Teresa turned this into a series for Matthew and his PI firm.
Journalist Alice Henderson is being stalked. Hang up calls. Telephone threats. Someone was in her house. Someone has videotaped her mother who is in the nursing home. Who is terrorizing her? At first she thinks it's just a hoax.. a prank ... but then things turn deadly.
Her boss wants her to take time off until this is resolved. Her co-worker, Jack, takes to following her around himself. Her boyfriend, Tom, hires Matthew Hill, a private investigator, to follow her only on Wednesdays ... which is the only day of the week that these freaky things happen.
Matthew is working closely with the police, and all become really concerned when they discover that Alice isn't really Alice. Who is she really? Who .. or what .. is she hiding from? And why on Wednesdays?
This is a suspenseful nail biter from the very first to the very end. The characters are finely drawn, credible. The book is told by two people .. .one, of course, is Alice. The other is from the stalker, telling his life story from a young age through today. The ending is explosive!
Many thanks to the author / Amazon Publishing UK / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological - Crime Fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This was an interesting read. Full of mystery and intrigue. I would recommend this book if you like a good mystery!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
4.5 stars, bumping up because I read the second half all the way through in one sitting because I wanted to find out how it would end. Although I had my suspicions about the culprit, it was still intense and when I found out who it was at the end, it was cool to think, "Yes! I was right!" But I could easily have been wrong too, lol. When I first started this book, it seemed like on the one hand she took the threat to herself very seriously and was totally freaked out, but at the same time didn't listen to those who really cared about her (like her sister, for one!). So that initially annoyed me. But the writing was consistently good and it really drew me into the fearful world of being stalked for an unknown reason. I liked that even though it was freaky, underlying the story was the love between Alice and her mom, the love between Matthew and his family, and her sister's love and support (even when they argued). And while totally twisted, the stalker was also motivated by love. I get the shivers just thinking about the stalker's life. This was my first experience with this author, and I really enjoyed this thriller and will probably check out her other books.
Thanks to #TeresaDriscoll, #NetGalley, and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A decent psychological thriller about a stalker who brings terror and fear to a well-known journalist. Her boyfriend hires a private detective who, in turn, shares information with his former police cohort. They work together to try to solve the “who is it” mystery. In alternating chapters we hear the voice of the culprit as we watch his growing up years filled with a sad upbringing. The story moves at a well-paced clip which I appreciated. The “whodunit” reveal is not a major surprise because let’s face it, there weren’t that many options to choose from. Still, it’s worth a read if you like this genre.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
I read the first line of I Will Make You Pay and closed the book. Not because it's a bad opening line, because it is actually a perfect one. It pushed all my buttons at the time, and I was not sure I was able to go further. Alice Henderson is a journalist on a small Devon newspaper who received the threat that gave me such chills. When she calms down a bit, she realizes that it is not the first time she has been threatened, only not so graphically. The other calls have also come on Wednesdays. What could Alice have done to prompt someone to hate her so much? As the stalking increases in intensity on succeeding Wednesdays, and she is forced to retreat from her everyday life, we learn that Alice has many secrets. Amid this horror, Alice's much-loved mother is dying in a nursing home.
I Will Make You Pay tells the story from the point of view of Alice, a PI hired by her boyfriend, Tom, and the stalker himself. He relates the story of his childhood and what made him a monster (at least his reasons for it) and why he feels justified. We get to know the detective, Matthew, very well. The characterization of all the players is excellent. I was touched by Alice's love for and care of her dying mother. Alice herself is a little more challenging because of her bad decisions throughout. She admits to being stubborn, but that is an understatement. The revelation of the stalker's identity was very much a surprise to me, even though there were clues.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance digital copy. I recommend I Will Make You Pay for fans of psychological suspense.
RATING- 3.5 Stars Rounded up to 4
Journalist Alice Henderson answers a threatening phone call while in the newspaper office one Wednesday. While it unsettles her, she brushes it off as just another newspaper crank caller. However, when she's threatened again the next Wednesday . . . and the next, she is forced to admit that she's being targeted by a stalker to the point that her life is totally disrupted by paranoia, frustration, and fear. The question is why?
I Will Make You Pay is an entertaining suspense thriller that is told through multiple points of view - the main one being Alice. Chapters alternate between past and present, but it's the past chapters that I found most chilling as they come from the view point of "Him" - first as a lonely, abused child and later as a dysfunctional adult. It quickly becomes clear that the abuse the villain suffered as a child fed the monster within until he could no longer keep it leashed.
The author does a great job of building tension by utilizing short chapters with an escalating pace. I raced through the first part of this book seeking answers. While I haven't read other books by Driscoll, I understand there are a couple of reoccurring characters appearing in this book but it definitely reads as a standalone. While I enjoyed reading I Will Make You Pay, I was less than thrilled by the reveal of the villain as well as the hurried way in which the ending scene played out. I had figured it out much earlier which is okay if the ending works for me. Unfortunately, I just wasn't sold on it. I ended what was a great, tension-filled read up to the climax feeling let down, and that's why I deducted a star. Having said that, I think many suspense thriller readers will love this one and highly encourage you to give it a shot.
I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll is a psychological thriller.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Thomas & Mercer, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Journalist Alice Henderson is being stalked. Every Wednesday, her stalker sends her a message, whether it be flowers, or a distorted telephone call. Things are escalating and the police are now involved.
Tom, Alice's boyfriend, doesn't feel the police are doing enough, so he hires Private Investigator Matthew Hill. Matthew agrees to shadow Alice on the next Wednesday, to see if he can protect her, and discover anything more. Matt will work with the police to get to the bottom of this.
As Alice tries to face her fears, her own doubts and her worry for her ailing mother threaten to topple her. Alice, it turns out, has been less than honest with anyone. Could her secret prove to be her downfall? Is her stalker an ex-boyfriend? Is it related to one of her stories? Or is it someone she doesn't even know that is targeting her?
In the background, we learn of a small boy living with his beloved Gran, and the horror of his Wednesday nights.
My Opinions:
Although the same Private Investigator is a prominent character in this book as in Driscoll's previous book, "The Promise", these are not being touted as a series, and indeed can be read as stand-alone novels. (I will group them together.)
The story is told from multiple points of view, and different time-lines. This method worked well, with absolutely no confusion. The plot was good, and a red herring or two had me following a path I didn't need to. The main characters were deep enough to ensure I was interested in each of their outcomes.
I loved the relationships between Alice and her mother, and that of Alice and her sister. These rang true...as did the relationship between the small boy and his Gran.
The overall writing was very good, with both suspense and emotional heartbreak.
It wasn't until just before the reveal that I figured everything out. I absolutely love when an author can string me along like that!
Looking forward to whatever is next from this talented author.
Alice is a newspaper journalist and she enjoys helping people through her investigative work. But, one day she receives a chilling phone call. Then it begins. For unknown reasons, a stalker has focused on Alice and the harassment always occurs on Wednesdays. Her boyfriend, Tom, engages a former police detective turned private investigator to help them determine who is threatening Alice and why.
This is just the bare bones of the latest thriller by Teresa Driscoll. I Will Make You Pay is a stellar novel about a terrorized woman and how she deals with a stalker. It is fast paced and suspenseful. Alice is a sympathetic victim, who remains strong in the face of adversity. With her sister by her side, she has the determination to overcome this challenge and regain a normal life. The investigator is a well-drawn character, as is the boyfriend, Tom, and the relationship Alice has with her mother is also very well-done.
The story moves almost seamlessly from past to present, using several points of view. I found it easy to read, well-crafted, and with a smashing ending. This is such a great book and perfect for anyone who enjoys a thriller that employs strong and interesting characters, a well-developed plot, and a chilling premise. I give it 4.5 stars.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
The book started out pretty good, but it got less strong as it went on, even though the twists were interesting and guessing who the bad guy was, was a surprise. There were lots of plots and most of them tied in. It is hard to write a bad guy and have him believable and half the book was his back story and that weakened it
Wednesday, seems like any other day until Alice, a journalist, receives a disturbing phone-call, someone wants to hurt her, in a very specific way. The next Wednesday a delivery with a message. Alice soon realises this isn’t the start of the campaign of terror she is facing.
This story is great, had me hooked from the beginning and although I thought I had it all figured out, I really didn’t! I enjoyed hearing from the different characters and trying to figure out how they related to Alice and Wednesdays!
When a novel opens with line, “‘I’m going to use a cheese wire on you.’”, how can a reader fail to be intrigued? Well I was and found what followed to be a terrific read; edgy, tense, and decidedly creepy. The words were uttered in a phone call, on a Wednesday afternoon, to Alice, a journalist on a local newspaper and she has no idea why. On subsequent Wednesdays more unsettling events occur and Alice genuinely fears for her life. When the police struggle to make any headway with the case, Alice’s wealthy boyfriend Tom hires a private detective, Matthew, to try and keep her safe. Is an approaching Wednesday going to be Alice’s last?
The story is told from three alternating viewpoints; Alice’s and the stalker’s (both past and present), and Matthew’s. You soon discover that Alice isn’t necessarily the person she claims to be and there may well be a shadow in her past who is responsible for her persecution.
This is a very clever read with a number of tasty red herrings. The characters are very well realised, even the stalker, whose identity you don’t know. There is a gradual reveal of the motive with crafty snippets, which, when you think back, you say ‘Of course!’
An entertaining, sharp and smart read.

Definitely kept you on the edge of your seat while you starve yourself of sleep! Very entertaining and thrilling. Beautifully written.it will have your reading tirelessly through the night
I DNF this book. It just wasn’t my kind of book. There is nothing wrong with it just not my kind of read.
