I enjoyed this book - it took me a bit to get into it but soon I was fully immersed in the story of Alice, a journalist and the main character who is being threatened - but only on Wednesdays. Why is this unknown person targeting her and why on Wednesdays only? That's the key to this mystery. It's told in alternating narratives of Alice, the PI, Matthew, who has been hired to protect her, and the harasser himself starting way back when he was a child. We find out pretty early on what causes the stalker to become like he is and the reader can't help but feel some sympathy. We also discover that Alice has some dark secrets from her past that she has kept from everyone, even her current boyfriend, Tom. Could her secrets explain why she is being threatened now? Or is it simply because of one of her news stories has hit a sore spot for someone?

There's also a sweet side story involving Matthew and an older man who keeps trying to hire him, but Matthew doesn't want to take advantage of the man's claims of 'little people' that are trying to capture him and take him away. Matthew's generosity and good-hearted nature are evident in their brief interactions. Another side story involving Alice and a blogger felt a little more forced and I wasn't sure that it added anything to the plot.

It's a generally fast paced story with a fun twist at the end. A slightly far-fetched twist, though, that I found insulting to Alice's intelligence. But it does make for good reading!

A good story with many twists that kept me guessing until the end. The feelings between Alice and her mother who doesn’t have much time left tugged at my heart. I enjoy Driscoll’s writing style.

I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

A terrifying and chilling story. It started out as a good mystery and bit by bit draws you in deeper. Alice is a journalist and on one Wednesday receives a terrifying phone call. She has a stalker, she does not know who or why. Every Wednesday becomes a day of fear, that is the day the stalker always strikes. Her boyfriend, Tom , is concerned and hires a private investigator to be with her on Wednesdays. The story boes back in time, but is beautifully done and easy to follow. I did not expect that ending! I will certainly be recommending this thriller!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Typical thriller with naive woman, but in this one she is being stalked on Wednesday’s by a vicious person via calls and e-mails. Alice tries to deal on her own, but her boyfriend hires an investigator to get to the bottom of it all. When the stalker threatens Alice’s mother, her world is rocked to the core. TW: plenty of red herrings here and a terribly sad backstory with pedophiles.

BOOK REVIEW: I WILL MAKE YOU PAY • Teresa Driscoll • Started & Finished September 2019 • ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded up)

Thank you @netgalley and @amazonpublishing for this eARC in exchange for an honest review. This book publishes on October 10, 2019!

Synopsis: When one threatening phone call turns out to be a dangerous stalker, Journalist Alice Henderson is forced to live a life in fear, dreading the arrival of Wednesdays — the day her stalker strikes. Someone wants her to suffer, but who...and for what? After the police offer little solace, private investigator Matthew Hill is hired to keep Alice safe, and help catch this stalker. Will Matthew be able to stop this stalker or will the stalker succeed in making Alice pay? Through three different POVs (Alice’s, Matthew’s, and the Stalker’s) the story unfolds.

Pros: This was a very unique take on a stalker story. The pattern of Wednesday attacks, the background given on Alice’s life, and the past of the stalker’s life being slowly revealed as readers simultaneously work to piece together who the stalker is made for a solid thriller. I didn’t guess who the stalker was either, which is always a plus.

Cons: While Matthew was a nice guy and played an important role, I just couldn’t connect with him. Driscoll tried to make him a character with depth by showing reader’s his big heart and good intentions, but I still found myself indifferent towards him. Unfortunately I felt the same way about Alice too. I was only able to feel invested in the story (i.e. cared if she died) through sympathy deriving from her past trauma and her devotion to her ailing mother.

Ultimately this is a book I enjoyed because of the plot and the insight into the stalker’s past. I didn’t connect with any of the other characters, and I felt that a few subplots were unnecessary filler. I would recommend this book as a chilling, quick, October read!

Wednesdaay, a day that Alice has come to dread. The stalker who has impinged on her life always acts on Wednesday. She receives horrible dead flowers, messages with a voice changer on the phone , her mother is targeted and so it goes on. Who is this person? And why is Alice being targeted?
Matthew, her stalwart Investigator is very believable, and it was nice to lear a little about him as a person. with a not terribly sympathetic wife, and lovely daughter.
So tightly written, such a brilliant psychological thriller. You begin to suspect almost everyone, but the one that I was sure of......wasn't the stalker at all. I had to put the book down once or twice, just to come back to a normal life. But read it in one go.
I am grateful to NetGalley for a review copy of the book and enjoyed reading it.

Revenge is a powerful emotion that can rule your life and ruin someone else's. Teresa Driscoll's "I Will Make You Pay" hits all the right buttons in this well written mystery. Her characters are skillfully crafted with attention to details that can make even the antagonist understandably sympathetic.

Alice loves her job at the newspaper. She wants to be a journalist who writes stories that matter. Unfortunately, she has become the story this time. She has a stalker who who is cunning and seems to know enough about her personal life to scare her and those around her. The stalker is not revealed to the reader until the surprise ending. I thought I had figured out the identity twice and discovered just how wrong I was twice. This story held my interest right up to the very end.

If you're into the current trend of female protagonist led psychological thrillers, then this is one you should pick up. We meet Alice just as she begins to notice that strange things have been happening to her on Wednesdays. We're also introduced to our psycho who definitely didn't get enough hugs as a kid. As with a lot of thrillers, the motivation of our psycho seems questionable, but all in all it's a fast and fun read.

I started this book last night, read late into the night, and finished it this morning - you think I liked it? This is my fourth Driscoll thriller and she is an exceptional writer, far more authentic then many in the genre, with great plots, characters and pacing. An unknown stalker - every woman’s fear. Vulnerable Alice starts receives letters, incidents and calls every Wednesday.. A journalist, Alice has a loving boyfriend Tom,, good friends and family and suddenly her world is turned upside down as the threats escalate. While we may discover the reason for the stalker, the actual person is not exposed until the very few last pages - and was a total gut wrenching shocker.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review of I WILL MAKE YOU PAY by Teresa Driscoll.

This book is a real page turner, and just when you think you’ve figured out who the stalker is, it changes again and again.

Trigger: You do learn about the suspect’s abusive past, although it does not go into great detail, it can be a tough read.

Every Wednesday there is a threatening phone call or message. Is it her ex fiancé who has quite a background or someone she works with? We also get the story of the tormentor when he was young.
This story kept me at the edge of my seat!

A clever story, and a real page-turner. Unfortunately I didn't really like the main characters, and found them unbelievable, so I didn't enjoy this book as much as I expected.

Review of Advance Reader’s Copy --- Uncorrected Proof

Every Wednesday, a mysterious caller victimizes journalist Alice Henderson with cruel threats. She believes it to be a hoax against the newspaper until the Wednesday threats intensify and it becomes clear that it is they are really all about Alice. But Alice’s articles on the need for replacing a run-down, damp housing complex have earned her popular support, so the reason for the threats is a mystery. As the Wednesday warnings escalate, the stalker sets his sights on Alice’s family. Can Alice uncover the reason for the threats before she comes face to face with an unthinkable reality?

Filled with unexpected reveals and some surprising twists, “I Will Make You Pay is, by turns, disturbing, suspenseful, and heart-wrenching. Told from multiple points of view, [but mostly from Alice], the story spins out over past and present, weaving a tapestry that ultimately connects all the threads from each of the characters in an unexpected denouement that changes everything readers think they know.

Pulled into the story from the first page, readers will find this quick read tale builds suspense as the pages turn.
The timeline shifts from past to present, from Alice to a young [unidentified] boy and his grandmother, Martha. Alice’s backstory is more complete; readers may wish the story of Martha and her grandson had a bit more elaboration. One of the brightest spots in the telling of the tale is Alice’s love for her mother. The scenes between Alice, Leanne, and their mother are the highlights of the narrative.

Recommended.

I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll had me hooked from the creepy beginning and kept my attention until the very end.

Journalist Alice Henderson's seemingly quiet life gets creepy when terrible things start happening to her every Wednesday. Someone is out to get her, but why? And, do secrets from her hidden past play a role?

Trigger warning: as we learn about this mystery stalker's past, we learn about abuse he endured. While not directly described, the implication is strong and is difficult to read.

I loved two supporting characters; private investigator Matthew Hill and DI Melanie Sanders are a smart and refreshing team, working to find this stalker. They pair great together and add a nice touch of kindness throughout the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Ms. Driscoll for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
