It seemed like an ordinary Wednesday until the phone rings.

Journalist Alice Henderson, hangs up, figuring that it is a hoax against her newspaper. But, the following Wednesday, there is another threat. One that makes it clear that Alice, and not the newspaper, is the target.

But, why? Does it have to do with her work at the paper? Or something from her past?

Her boyfriend Tom hires PI Matthew Hill, giving readers a chance to catch up with him, and DI Melanie Sanders, both recurring characters from previous novels. Don’t worry though- any of the books can be read as a stand alone, since the focus is always the Victim, and not the two characters tasked with helping them.

The good news for Alice…most stalkers are not killers.
The bad news…a lot of killers are stalkers first...

The warnings are escalating and yet, our relatable but flawed protagonist Alice, continues to make some questionable decisions, occasionally frustrating me, but...we wouldn’t have a story if she didn’t, right?

Although mostly narrated from Alice’s POV, we occasionally hear from “HIM”, the stalker. He has hated WEDNESDAYS for a long time-now it’s somebody else’s chance to dread WEDNESDAYS!

BUT WHO IS HE?



Author Teresa Driscoll, was a journalist for more than 25 years, and a BBC TV news presenter before turning her talents to writing fiction. This story was inspired by her own story when as young journalist starting out, she took a threatening call, three times, the same day each week. Fortunately for her, her calls ended with an apology on the third week, but her experience helped her to picture a scenario where that wouldn’t be the case, as the fear stayed with her much longer. This story helped her to examine that fear with a fictional story.

Something terrifying happens every Wednesday for Alice. I could feel her panic and terror, and sense of dread as each week Wednesday would approach! This book grabbed my interest right from the start. However, the ending felt rushed. I still don't understand why Brian had such an impact on the stalker. Did I miss something? It was still a satisfying read as I'm a huge fan of Driscoll!

This is another great thriller by Teresa Driscoll. It kept me guessing throughout who the stalker was going to be. The ending was great and well written. I’d recommend for anyone who likes this genre of book.

Another fantastic read from this author. I'm now at the point, after reading several books, that I'll happily read anything by this author. 4* from me, I guessed the stalker from early on but still very enjoyable.

The main theme of this novel is that courage and love is more powerful than fear.

Through the character of Alice were taken through a suspenseful journey of a young journalist who receives anonymous calls from a stranger who threatens her every Wednesday. It's important to note that the author of book had a similar experience in the past.

Could Teresa Driscoll possibly be revealing a chapter from her past to her readers?

While, that remains unknown , the unknown stranger threatens to harm, knows personal information about Alice such as where she works, where she lives, what her favorite drink is, and even personal information about her hospital bed mother.

The novel itself journeys through the past and the present. The past reveals a storyline of a little boy raised by his beloved grandmother. The little boy hates that his grandmother has to leave him on his own one night a week.

Could you possibly assume that Wednesday is the day the little boy hates?

Absolutely, as you dive deeper into the book you'll surely find out that Alice has secrets of her own.

What I enjoyed most was the focus on Alice love for her mother.

But, I definitely disliked that some of the British vocabulary (such as the use of the word fruitcake, nutter, daft, wank, saddo, and, moi) didn't translate well. Basically, I had to re-read some sections over just to understand the essence of the paragraph.

Also, you could easily get thrown off track with the chapters about the little boy past. Chapter to Chapter the backstory doesn't flow well with the present life chapters of Alice & Matthew.

I requested this title because I enjoyed the last book I read by Teresa Driscoll, and “I Will Make You Pay.” I thought I had figured it out. I was mad that I figured it out so soon. I should have figured it out sooner, but I hadn’t figured it out at all!

This is a page-turner that you will not want to put down. An incredibly fast read, this book will keep you guessing. Alice is a journalist in her late 20s who is being tormented by someone. She is incredibly trusting and naive but also very likable. Her boyfriend Tom will do everything in his power (and within his bank account) to protect her, and her colleague Jack seems to have a little bit of a crush on her and wants to look out for her. I was also surprised to see Matthew and Sally (the private investigator and his wife), who met in Driscoll’s “The Promise.” I liked them in that book, so I was glad to see the characters carry over and have their happily ever after.

I don’t want to give anything away to spoil this for anyone else. Pick this one up. You’ll be very glad that you did!

Wow! Do you think you have a bad judge of character? Well Alice will give you a run for your money. When she receives a threatening phone call at her newspaper office where she is a reporter her life begins to unravel. She tried to hide her past and create a new life for herself, but has it come back to haunt her? Will she have to reveal the whole truth to not only the police, but her new boyfriend or is the threat completely unrelated? This story takes you in circles as it weaves two stories to reveal the whole truth. Who has Alice hurt so badly that now they are determined to make her pay? The ending is even better than you guessed!

Alice gets threats in form of notes. She is a journalist &the notes always show up on Wednesday. Her husband hires a P.I. named Matthew,to keep her safe & find the stalker. What is Alice hiding? Lots of twists, turns, and suspense and it’s heartwrenching at times. Loved this book

I Will Make You Pay by author Teresa Driscoll is yet another intense thriller/mystery that moves at a fast pace and has some greatly developed characters! I will definitely recommend this book!

I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll is a gripping thriller that will have you holding your breath up until the final page. Tension and suspense build steadily toward an explosive and shocking climax. Teresa Driscoll has just earned herself a place on my 'must read' list of authors.

Alice, a journalist, receives a threatening call at work that is seemingly out of the blue. She initially dismisses the call as a prank, just part and parcel of the job., until similar incidents follow, and always on a Wednesday. Fearing for her safety, boyfriend Tom hires a private investigator to keep an eye on Alice, but as the incidents continue to escalate with each passing week, it becomes very clear that the stalker will not stop until his personal vendetta against Alice has been settled once and for all.

This story is superbly executed, and unfurls at the perfect pace. Through shifting timelines, and providing the alternating perspectives of Alice and her unknown stalker, 'Him', I was kept guessing about the identity of the mysterious voice right up until the shocking reveal. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This was very good! I’m a big fan of Theresa’s books. I had so so many theories and I’m pleased to say I didn’t get the correct result! A little bit annoying that it didn’t tie all the ends and answer all questions, thus making some plot lines maybe a bit pointless and random? E.g what was the point of the stalking charity etc? But overall a rather thrilling read, the feeling you get in your body when the realisation all hits you is incredible!

I Will Make You Pay is an amazingly fast paced thriller that I just couldn't put down: flying through the pages one minute and then covering parts with my hands so that my eyes didn't see before I'd read it all word by word!

Alice Henderson’s world is suddenly torn apart  when she receives a threatening call at work one Wednesday.

Reporter Alice then begins receiving packages, threatening messages and worse, every Wednesday, causing her to obtain the help of private investigator, Matthew. She becomes truly terrified as things escalate each passing week, everyone seems to be a suspect. Her secret past ends up becoming exposed and police begin to suspect a link.

I love that the story is told from multiple perspectives through different timelines, it made you feel almost like you were Alice as you read, dreading what might come next.
What is the significance of Wednesday?

I was very drawn to the chapters taken from the stalker’s perspective because I was intrigued to find out why he was targeting Alice in particular. I love thrillers that keep me guessing, and this one didn't let me down! I originally thought I knew what was going on but I was very quickly thrown off the trail only to have it come back and bite me at the end...brilliant!
The author (Teresa Driscoll) also managed to make me actually care about more than one of the characters in the story and the way she wrote about the relationship between Alice and her mother was simply beautiful.

You can tell that Teresa Driscoll is a journalist, since her style is so direct and easy. Her lead character Alice is herself a journalist, who is suddenly being stalked. The problem is not what the creep does, but how fear starts invading her life, imbuing everything. She has a good support system and, more importantly, her boyfriend and sister have means, so she can hire a private detective. Recurring character Matthew Hill is there for Alice, as well as super-cop Melanie Sanders. It’s nice to see how their lives have evolved, but the rest of the characters are also well rounded. The disintegration of Alice’s psyche and self-esteem are interesting enough, but the mystery behind the stalking is a doozy. I had no idea what was going to happen and all of my theories were wrong. I’ve loved all of Ms. Driscoll’s mysteries and this one does not disappoint. Thank you, NetGalley/Amazon Publishing UK!

Alice has a stalker but who? Certainly wasn't who I thought it was.

This book was good, solid, writing was beautiful. IT was fast paced and enjoyable. My first book by this author, and I will definitely read her again.

100% a Teresa Driscoll fan! I loved I am Watching You and The Friend. I Will Make You Pay did not disappoint! I could not put down the book, I had to finish it to see the outcome. Who is it that is messing with Alice every Wednesday! While I was reading, it was a Tuesday and I got scared just because I thought something was going to happen on Wednesday. I really enjoyed the way this book was written and how I felt like I was with Alice dealing with everything that was happening to her.

I Will Make You Pay is one of those incredibly fast-paced thrillers that makes you want to race breathlessly to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, with its multiple strands and hidden layers. In the author's note at the end, Driscoll mentions how she wanted to tell this story with a side to counter the negative. This came through wonderfully with the relationship between Alice and her mum.

It was good to see Matthew and Melanie make another appearance - their scenes always offer an additional insight into the case and the ways in which the police (and private investigators, of course) both view and deal with them.

Oh no its Wednesday! I loved this book - could not wait to get to the end to find out the villian! I am normally good at weeding out the baddie but in this case I really was stumped. The author successfully draws the reader into the life of journalist Alice the main character and weaves the tale around her life also taking the reader back in time to an unknown boy's life whom we assume is connected to or is the stalker. Some books I've read go thorugh a "boring" stage but this did not. For fans of a good psychological thriller and page turner look no further!

Beautifully written and suspenseful, this tense thriller vividly draws on the author's experiences with a very satisfying result. Equal parts police procedural, thriller, and psychological why-done-it, this haunting novel will please fans of Val McDermid. Highly recommended.
