This is one intense, twisted, dark, addictive, insane, jaw-dropping novel! Not only is this a very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters, but the suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Compulsive, gripping and horrifying! Will have you on the edge of your seat and gasping with shock!
Alice is a journalist for a small local country paper in England. When she answers the phone at work on a Wednesday she is shocked by the callers threat, "I am going to use cheese wire on you." Little did Alice know at that time that Wednesdays for the next several weeks would be filled with fear and the unknown of what the next threat from her stalker would be. Her boyfriend, Tom, hires a private investigator Matthew Hill because he does not have much faith in the police and their ability to keep Alice safe. Matthew is an ex-cop and works with this old partner DI Melanie Sanders who has been assigned to Alice's stalker case. As DI Melanie Sanders starts to look into Alice's case and her past, she discovers that Alice may not be who she said she is. Is it possible that Alice's past has caught up to her? Could her ex-fiancee Alex really be behind the stalking? Alice doesn't think so, but the that the police learn about Alex, the more they start to think that he is behind the stalking of Alice.
***warning- this story contains hints to sexual child abuse endured by "Him" (the stalker) as he was younger by a neighbor that occurred over the course of several years. It also talks about Alice's ex-fiancee and him having multiple sexual relationships with underage girls. The story does not go into any great detail, only hints or mentions the above events, but wanted to mention this as I know that this may be bothersome to some readers.
This book is written with multiple narrators, and as previously mentioned, I am not often a huge fan of this style of writing. However, this was done really well in this book and I found that it helped provide different perspectives to the story that were quite helpful. The multiple narrators are: Alice, Matthew, and Him - before.
The story itself was very fast paced and draws you in almost immediately with Alice getting the phone call with the "cheese wire" threat. It is filled with many twists and turns. Teresa does an excellent job at keeping you guessing who the stalker is. Honestly, I couldn't figure it out. It definitely has a surprising twist at the end that will shock you.
Rating: 3 out of 5. I am knocking off two points from my rating because of the hints to sexual child abuse, which I don't feel like added anything to the story.
Thank you Amazon Publishing UK and Net Galley for the copy of this book and apologies I have not reviewed before now but I have only just read.
Wow is my first word I loved this book - this is a psychological thriller worth reading. Teresa Driscoll has done it again. A dead husband, another woman I won't say any more. Definitely recommend you read this and can we please have another book soon?
I liked this book. The characters, at first were hard to keep straight, and hard to get a real feel for. As the book progressed, it became easier to follow and hard to put down.
Alice a journalist is sent a threatening note that she will be cut by a cheese wire, but this is not the first note she has received and strangely it always occurs on a Wednesday. After several more threats, her husband Tom employs Matthew a private investigator to keep her safe and discover who the culprit is. I Will Make You Pay is an entertaining suspense thriller that is told through multiple points of view.
The premise of this book is a creepy one. A reporter gets a mysterious call with an ominous threat on her life. She puts the pieces together to determine that this stalker has been leaving threats for her every Wednesday, and he is escalating. She doesn't know if it is because of her work or personal life that this person is stalking and threatening her. The book alternates between the protagonist, the private investigator, and the suspect, as clues get woven together. Secrets in her past that she wanted to stay buried come to the surface. The ending was a bit predictable/anti-climactic, but I still really enjoyed the ride leading up to it. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review to the book.
This psychological thriller is a must read. It takes you back to your worst fear as a child or teenager when your home alone and some one gives you a scary prank call but this is much more serious. This is an actual threat with actual consequences. I loved it because this was one of my worst fears when I was growing up.
I loved this thriller!! I can’t wait to read more from Driscoll. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fast read.
It starts with a threatening phone call to a journalist, then turns into full blown stalking. But why and is this connected to the journalist's past? An interesting read with a few twists. Managed to finish the book in a day. Good to take your mind off things.
Had trouble getting into this at first but stuck with it and glad I did! Starts out slow, but picks up. There are so many suspects I couldn't figure out who it was, and the ending blew me away! Loved it! Good writing, good plot, interesting characters.

5 shinny stars, well earned. This is exactly what I like: nice flow, building of suspense which keeps its reader guessing. Very well developed characters. Another one I finished in the first sitting. 👏
Every Wednesday, a mysterious caller terrorizes and taunts journalist Alice Henderson with cruel threats. At first she believes it to be a hoax against the newspaper until the threats continue weekly, every Wednesday, and they escalate. Alice is well liked in her community and fights for a local housing complex to be replaced/upgraded into a livable place. She can't figure out why someone would want to harm her, but threats soon include her family and panic sets it. Can Alice uncover the reason for the threats before she comes face to face with an unthinkable reality?
This was a great book that pulled me in from the start! It was a quick read filled with unexpected twists. The story is told from several points of view and told over the past and present. I enjoyed it very much!
Thanks to Teresa Driscoll, Amazon Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a twisted thriller that will keep you guessing! I enjoyed the way the story was told to keep the suspense building. Something happens one Wednesday to journalist Alice. And then something else. It starts to become a pattern on Wednesdays. Alice is scared but angry this is affecting her life and those around her. They have some ideas who is behind everything but things begin to escalate as time goes on. Her boyfriend hires a private detective to help keep Alice safe and to help investigate the case since the police haven’t figured it out yet. At the same time we get glimpses of why someone is targeting Alice as we learn their story in chapters throughout the book.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It’s amazing! I like the characters and the guessing who the stalker is. It takes you one way and you think you know the answer then boom another twist! Totally recommend and a strong 5/5. Will be buying her other books. Perfect lockdown company!
I was totally hooked from the first page to the last, a fantastic thriller, gritty and exciting, 5 very well earned stars
Teresa Driscoll is great. This book had me hooked and I can't wait to read more from this author soon! Easy to read and lots of twists
When every Wednesday, like clockwork; you are scared for your life... Alice Henderson is a journalist who’s life is turned upside down by ever increasing, weekly threats but has no idea why.
A gripping psychological thriller that kept me guessing till the end.
A page turning, fast-paced thriller. Teresa Driscoll has delivered another sensational, suspenseful novel. The tension in the writing and the character depiction is perfect... and you lurch from one suspect to another.. with a totally unexpected finale
So many twists and turns, it made it difficult to put down. A must-read for all.
I apologize for my tardy review, since I forgot to post my review, when I finished reading. I want to thank Net Galley for the advance copy.
A good psychological thriller. Every Wednesday journalist Alice Henderson receives a chilling gift from her stalker that escalates every week. A tense and read full of twists.
This was a little hard to get into... I feel like you have to push through because the revealing is worth it.
