I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

The plot sounded so intriguing, but the characters did not engage me in the least so it felt a bit like empty page-flipping. The twist did genuinely surprise though, so I will give it a three

Wow! What a book! Years later secrets from Julia's past come back to haunt her when a body is uncovered in the Downs, a stones throw from the house she shared with a host of mystifying characters.
I loved the way the story was told between the past and present, the way the characters unravelled and the way the writer kept the reader guessing throughout. An excellent read. Thank you netgalley!

Julia is having a very bad time. A workplace affair has cost her both her job and her marriage. Even more disturbing is the fact that human remains have been found next to a house she lived in twenty years before. The remains are those of one of Julia’s former roommates, and she is definitely under suspicion. Readers are faced with deciding if Julia is as innocent as she asserts, or if the events of two decades ago made her commit the ultimate sin

It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a book this much! The Verdict is absolutely brilliant!

I thought all the characters were well written and realistic and I fell in love with Genevieve, I pictured her as the mum from Haunting of Hill House and found her quirky and fun (although also tragic).

There’s a lot of thrillers being released at the moment that aren’t worth you time. The Verdict is not one of these and I’d call it a must read.

For me, the main characters in this book were not easy to relate to. Especially Julia, who is devastated by breaking up with her long term partner, and keeps moaning about her mother. Repeatedly, the story comes back to whether or not she was in a relationship with Brandon, did she want to or was it a one time thing, during the time she lived at Genevieve's place? The same can be said about her and Gideon, she is not quite sure what to make of him, on and on it goes.

Thankfully, there are interesting twists and turns to keep reading. For instance, the man Julia married and recently betrayed by having an affair with her son's rugby coach. And there were other interesting characters who made the story come alive, like Audrey, Pearl and Rudi.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy of the book.
