Thank you to Megan Rossi and Penguin Books for my ARC.
I can see this book would be very helpful for IBS sufferers and those who just want to eat healthily. The copy I received was awful, but I've reviewed this kind of book before and they're never properly formatted for sale. I don't think there is anything particularly new here, but I can see it has been put together with professionalism and knowledge of the subject. The kimchi recipe was a great find, and there are other recipes that I think people will find interesting. This will look good when it's properly finished with photos etc, so I'm not letting its current presentation put me off.
This was a beautiful book.
I loved the simplicity of the gut and how you related it to real life patients. Your writing reminded me a lot of Giulia Enders and her book, "Gut: The inside story..."
Although it was only a sample that I read, you got me very interested in how to use a simple plant based diet to improve our gut system. The recipes were simple, easy to follow and, although seemed like quite a peculiar mix (like the accidental banana fig and courgette breakfast loaf) it is definately worth a try!
Definately a book to add to my TBR list!
Thankyou Megan for giving me th opportunity to read such a fantastic book!
Enjoyed reading about the machinations of the gut and how to keep it healthy. The recipes are easy to understand and follow.
I hadn't thought about my gut health ever until earlier this year when someone advised me to have a detox. So this book caught my eye.
Unfortunately the review copy I received wasn't easy to read on the Kindle as paragraphs seemed to be overlaid. Also, only a short part of the book was available for review so I have seen only very few recipes, so I couldn't really comment on that aspect of the book.
Having said that, I found Megan Rossi's information about the gut and gut health very interesting. I had no idea that the gut has an impact on mental health or that even identical twins have their own unique gut microbiota which can help to explain why different people react so differently to different medicines. It was also interesting to learn that for 15-20% of the population just adding more prebiotics to the diet can actually trigger gut symptoms.
So yes, the book will make me think about what I eat but I don't feel I have enough information really to comment on the diet which is recommended. It does seem to take a holistic approach and also consider the impact of sleep and stress on the functioning of the body.
The book contains links to Megan Rossi's website where there are gut health assessments, but I have not been able to try them as there is a password linked to the book, which wasn't included in the sections available to me. But these are presumably a good place for the reader to start.
I suspect there is a lot I could learn from the book about caring more for my gut, however in my case, having only seen a part of the book, the jury remains out.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an advance review copy.
I was given a sample of this book to read by NetGalley and the publishers.
Eat Yourself Healthy is very well laid out & easy to read, the recipes I saw were clear and easy to follow - I really like the mix and match gut goodness bowls.
I need to take my time and read through this book carefully.
I will return at a later date to update my review and add comments to how I followed the advice and what, if any, improvements were made to my guy health.
Update: I am unable to read this book as it won't download properly. I have tried a few times, but it's unreadable. Text is repeated every few lines, in different fonts, and numbers appear randomly.
So badly formatted that I gave up trying to read it, I don't know what has gone wrong but it needs to be put right. Disappointing and not what I was expecting.
This review copy is just an extract and very poorly presented. The text is all mixed up and very difficult to follow. Some good points are made but it is difficult to say whether it is a lifestyle I could follow without seeing the whole book.
I was disappointed with this book. I have FGID so thought it would be useful for me to find something that I can eat that’s also good for my body. However:
1. There’s hardly any recipes in this, and they are shoved at the back of the book. Which was a let down considering these are the main sale point in the books description.
2. The recipes are more like snacks than feasible meals.
3. It’s more of a self-help book than recipe book.
4. The advice is more opinion (backed up by one case study where it might have helped) than actual help for people with stomach conditions.
5. Don’t tell me to go do exercises like yoga in a recipe book claiming that will help my FGID more than the FODMAP diet. NOPE. My FGID is brought on by my EDS. Maybe the author should remember that yoga isn’t the solution for everyone.
6. This book is more about living a health conscious lifestyle than helping medical symptoms, it’s so focused on trends like Kimchi and not on down to earth everyday solutions that can help lessen symptoms. Not everyone is an expert chef.
7. This book is it’s title, it’s not it’s description.
So I didn’t get on with it.
I really wanted to read this book, because the description sounded like something that I was struggling with and I thought this book could help me out. But I was so disappointed with the digital copy of the book that I received. The font, and the text was mixed up everywhere, paragraphs were repeated, there were no page numbers, the links wouldn't work, because you had to enter a password which refers to a certain page number in the book, the pictures and the text were all around the place - in a nutshell, the digital copy that I received from the publishers on my kindle, was absolutely unreadable. I don't even know if the complete content of the book was present in the digital copy that I downloaded, because it seemed like a really short book, with no content.
I will give this book 1 star, purely on the basis of the terrible quality of the digital copy that I received.
I totally agree with Megan about the importance of microbiota and reducing stress. This would be a good book to introduce the topic to IBS sufferers. Maybe a bit short on recipes though.
Read it, digest it, apply it.
A good book to follow a healthier way of eating, living, enjoying life.
Great all round introduction to gut health particularly microbiological information on the gut-brain connection and all over wellbeing advice on eating and nutrition. This sample possibly doesn't cover enough for me to be certain but there was a lot of information that I've already read about in other nutritional cookbooks but I enjoyed Megan's approach and the personal touch she gives about her own background and experience.
An interesting and informative book, which has given me some good ideas in keeping my gut healthy. I believe that this was only a sample of the full book, but I think the fully published book will certainly be worth a read.
Thank you netgalley
This book gave a lot of information about healthy eating. Unfortunately, nothing new was revealed to me. Perhaps as a result of my having been interested in healthy eating for a number of years. The book was therefore not for me but might be of interest to others.
Very interesting read and easy to understand, I thought it was a recipes book, but it's not but it show you a new way to listen to you gut about food
An interesting and insightful read. I learnt a lot reading this. I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
Having been given access to this sample I have looked up information on the gut doctor and visited her website. She seems to have some interesting advice on gut health but a lot of what is in the sample is pretty common knowledge and really just common sense. It is a shame that the sample does not give access to the worksheets as it would be interesting to see if they do give any useful insights but, from what I have seen, this book isn’t telling me anything that I didn’t already know.
T
Super insightful, full of useful information. Excited to see what the full book entails - some tasty recipes in here!
Covers just the basics of the complex topic of gut health and mainly.consists of recipes. More conprehensive/ useful guides are out there and would be recommended over this one.
