This book is full of beautiful bags, purses, pouches and quilts. My only problem was deciding which one I would like to make first,,
As a beginner the patterns were well explained and the illustrations and photographs made each project very desirable. With a limited amount of fabric and tools a lot of projects could be within reach.
I would definitely recommend this book to any sewing fans an inspiration book to add to your craft book collection.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my chance to read this inspirational book.
Some beautiful projects and easy to follow instructions with diagrams and step by step. However, the language is quite formal, not necessarily a bad thing but unusual for these types of book, maybe because of the translations??
I certainly look forward to following a design with this book though
You know it's a great craft ideas book when you just can't wait to try the ideas! As a beginner, I still have a ways to go before I can manage these projects, but the bright, colorful photos and clear illustrations for each idea make it look easy.
When I started thinking about how I was gonna review a craft book, I knew that I couldn’t really review it without trying a project so I could pass on whether the instructions were clear, any issues, and etc. I decided to make the Vintage Panel Drawstring Pouches even though the panel I had wasn’t vintage. The project was quite simple and easy to follow as long as you payed attention to the diagrams she draws for each project. I wish she had gave other ideas for the waxed cord that was used for the drawstring. That was the only time I didn’t follow her instructions exact; I used ribbon instead. She follows the same format for each project. A list of supplies, written instructions, and diagrams.
I loved several projects from this book, and I look forward to making more than just the drawstring pouches. Some of my favorites included the Flat Zipper Pouch made with assorted print scraps. I loved the handle on the Dancing Flowers Purse, but not the flowers so much. The Puffy Pouch was cute and I especially loved the beading on the front. The Fresh & Sweet Framed Mini Quilts made my mind think of great gifts using my embroidery machine designs and the Vintage Panel Play Mat was adorable with the simple dashing and straight line quilting with a hexagon border. There was a solid technique section, stitch guide, and templates for the projects requiring them. Over all the book has fantastic projects and well worth the investment of owning it.
I have two complaints about the book. One is that she doesn’t tell you to iron projects before starting and after certain steps. New sewers forget or don’t realize how important ironing can be to a project. Ironing should be a step in any sewing or quilting project. Two, cutting panels is not always easy. They print out crooked and you have to take time to square them up to make them look good in a project. And since she had panel projects, I think a section on how to cut them accurately would have been a good thing.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this four star book.
While this is truly a CUTE book, it didn't inspire me to do anything. I didn't see any new, unique ideas and the projects seemed very young. Admittedly, that is my personal opinion and tastes, so I am certain it will appeal to others.
Loved this book. There were such cute projects with instructions, pictures and supply lists to get you started. I'm planning to purchase this for my 14yr old for Christmas. I think she could do most of the things in here with some help.
This is a great book with cute, practical bags and accessories. The book has very detailed pictures, instructions and diagrams. It would be a great addition to public libraries or personal craft book collections.
Such a cute book, full of bags, pouches, purses and quilts. Very prettily made with bright coloured fabric and easy patterns, this book would fill the gift wish list of any young child or adult. Changed the colour of the fabrics and a new look can be achieved. There are patterns included and very well illustrated with instructions to fit any skill set.
Love the cover!!!! Cute book! Great beginner projects. Lots of detailed instructions and photos. So many projects that I want to make!!!
Thanks Zakka Workshops and NetGalley for the ARC of this beautiful craft book!
This is such a cute book. I love all of the ideas in here. I have not done much quilting but am an experienced sewer. I am always looking for things to do with my scraps (because I am a hoarder of craft supplies and cant throw anything away) and this entire book has perfect scrap size projects. I would recommend this to my friends that sew!
Great craft book!! Many different types of projects to choose from and projects for all skill levels. Great instructions and wonderful photos.
This is a book for both sewers and quilters. Novice and professionals can utilize the simple to read instructions and create whimsical and fun designs. Great read and I can't wait to create some of the designs.
I would be the first to say that I have no talent for sewing. I still remember my skirt and jumper from home ec in seventh and eighth grades; neither was a great success. So, I am not sure that I would be successful in making these projects but I can tell you that they are so cheerful and appealing that just looking through the book was a delight.
The author describes her works as "happy and lovely," as indeed they are. There are instructions for making a number of bags and pouches and also decorative objects for the home. The directions appear to be detailed and helpful.
I enjoyed looking through this book and feel inspired. Maybe you will too.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great projects to do. Patterns, not colors chosen so you can use your own guide within a guide as to how things look when the project is finished. Family friendly. Do with a child, or grandchild!!
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
This book of cheerful projects will have you eager to choose some fabric and get started. Very nice photos of finished projects provide inspiration and clear instructions with helpful diagrams make this book desirable.
Sew Cute Quilts and Gifts is filled with cute projects. There are beautiful pictures of the projects. This is a wonderful resource to add to your library.
Our small library has a "maker's space" that has a sewing machine and we have lots of young people learning to sew. This book looked like something they would enjoy. I surveyed several of the kids and there were numerous projects they are anxious to try their hand at. This book will be an asset to my library.
This book is GREAT! I am very creative and love doing art projects and was so so happy to find a book that gives such detailed instructions like this one! I can’t wait to start making everything! I’ve already laid out my supplies to start the adorable round pouches and the Blooming Yoyo pouches! Oh em gee they’re so cute and they (and the rest of the crafts in this book!) would make amazing gifts!
This is such a fun crafting book for someone who is interested in creating things. It’s a great starter book for the new crafter as well as good for learning some new skills for a more experienced one. It would make a great gift for the crafter in your life!
Thank you NetGalley and Search Press Limited for the opportunity to read and give an honest review
of this book.
This is a charming little book with cute and colorful projects. They include instructions for sewing
pouches, purses, clutches, pencil cases, and quilts. The photography is enticing. You may want to make most of what you see in this book, especially if you sew for young daughters or grand daughters.
The sewist or quilter may need to be fairly confident in their abilities to read and use patterns and instructions with measurements.
The author seems to love pink and as a result most of the projects are shown in reds and or pinks.
That shouldn’t keep anyone from designing the projects in personal color choices. Use your imagination!
My favorite project was the fabric strawberry wreath for summer decor in your home. It would be welcoming on a door or on the wall in a guest room. The mini quilts would also make quick project to
complete.
If you are a quilter, Sew Cute Quilts and Gifts may be the book for you.
