Thank you to the kind publisher of this book for allowing me the chance to read it for an honest review. And to NetGalley for supporting a relationship between readers and publishers. I wish both of you well.
Sew Cute Quilts and Gifts was absolutely delightful. A bit of background on myself, I'm not an avid sewer, I don't think I can sew at all for that matter. I requested this book based on its cute cover and title and even a complete noob like myself could love in fall with it. I think it would inspire anyone to hop on YouTube and searching for watching sewing tutorials!
All the project seem simple enough, very easy and quick to do. Projects range from a small round coin purse to a lavish beautifully designed quilt.
Full of a love for nature and cuteness the projects in this book feature types of fruit and flowers. My favorite designs were the strawberry blossom wreath, the strawberry corsage, and the grape corsage.
In addition to its beginner-friendly design, several projects, like the ones I listed above, can be completed without a sewing machine. The others I believe can be achieved either by hand sewing or buying a child's sewing machine set.
All in all, I believe this book makes for an excellent purchase for anyone wanting to broaden their crafting horizons.
A really cute book of sweet quilted projects. The book does a good job of laying out the instructions, listing all he materials up front and gives steps to create each project. There is a short section for general quilting knowledge as well. This book is ideal for a quilter who wants to create something for anyone interested in the styles shown on the cover. Great to see some international art being translated and making its way to the US!
Not what I expected. Very old school ideas and techniques. Some of the embellishments are cute but not enough to have my library purchase this book.
This is a seriously adorable book! As a newbie to sewing, I've been looking for some cute ideas, inspiration, and how-to for new projects, and this fits the bill. Some of the projects are a bit complex for someone at my level, but the instructions and diagrams show how to complete all of the projects. There are a couple of actual quilts, while the rest are mainly cute gifts and home decorations.
I really enjoyed the pictures, though -- the sewer/author did a fantastic job with these projects. I really enjoyed the color schemes and how cute/kawaii the projects are, which is something that seems to be rare in a lot of sewing books.
All the projects in this book are so very Japanese and feminine. All pinks and pastels and flowery! Easy to follow instructions and patterns are included. Beautiful things to make. My favourite kind of book!
I love quilts and I live the idea of quilting. What I don't love? Making full sized quilts. I get bored cutting and piecing a whole quilt together. That's why books like this are so fun! This book is full of projects to try out different patterns and techniques and everything is small and quick enough that boredom is never an issue. These projects are also good for issuing up scraps leftover from larger projects since each requires only small amounts of each fabric. The written instructions and diagrams are clear and easy to follow. As the title states, these are cute projects. Some may not appeal to every maker, but there's enough variety here that I think most any sewist could find something that suits them or someone they know. Perfect for the new sewist/quilter to try out new techniques or for the experience sewist looking fit a wish project or to use up scraps. The cute factor could always be dialed down with different fabric choices as well.
Thank you to Zakka Workshop and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
What a beautiful book, the projects are well described and the pencil drawn instructions clear and easy to follow.
Although things such as pencil and phone cases are very popular home made items these are fresh and fun looking and as you can't have too much fabric or ideas of what to make with it this book would be a very good addition to any sewer's bookshelf. The Dancing Flowers and Lexi purses were my favourites but there weren't any I wouldn't want to have a go at making.myself.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys quilting small projects with the addition of embroided or appliqued accents to enhance their work.
This is a beautifully colourful book of practical quilting ideas that can be made as gifts. I am sure that anyone who received one of these projects would be delighted. There is a nice variety of projects from simple to more complicated complete quilts. The gifts can be made for both young and old, boy or girl. The instructions where clear and easy to follow. The beautiful color photos of the projects are very inspiring. At the end of the book is detailed explanation of techniques to make and finish your project as well as patterns which can be printed off. I found this book to be a joy just to look at and am looking forward to trying each project. I received this book as an ARC and give my review freely.
These are extremely small projects and would not be considered "Quilts" even though elements of the project are quilted. I would look through this book but wouldn't purchase it for a personal collection.
