I included this book in a post about new cookbooks for October. The details will be supplied directly to the publisher in the next round.
I am very picky when it comes to cookbooks but I am so glad I did pick this one because I love it.
The recipes are easy enough that even I can do them. That says a lot because I am horrible at cooking.
I do highly recommend
I definitely liked this selection of recipes. I'm a big cookbook collector and would definitely buy this in paperback to add to my cookbook collection. It is all about one dish recipes which is one of my favorite types of recipes because it makes it so easy, less dishes, simple, delicious. Cant wait to start trying them all!
Many of these recipes look great -- simple to make and tasty.
For the vast majority of people, these recipes will help them meet their nutritional goals. For me, personally, many of these recipes are either too high in calories or too low in protein. I still find this book to be useful, but it won't be one I reach for often.
I have a lot of Ellie's cookbooks in my collection purely for food inspiration. This cookbook like her many others did not disappoint. Ellie manages to explain cooking for the most introductory cook in the kitchen in a simple way. The only downside was that I thought there would be more meatless options in this book. Other than that this cookbook is a winner to add to your collection.
This book first appealed to me because it has recipes to be prepared using a single pot/pan or skillet. I love easy recipes and easy cleanup. But, as I began to browse the recipes, I found an added benefit: the meals are healthy! For example, I'm not a big pancake fan, but the zucchini pancakes with yogurt feta sauce appealed to me. The recipes seemed simple and included nutritional information and notes about how long it would keep in the refrigerator. It would also be nice to know whether it's freeze-able!
The book is organized by main ingredient (plant protein/eggs/dairy, seafood, poultry, meat & desserts). I found the first chapter the most appealing (and I'm an omnivore). The recipes were different and appetizing, such as Loaded Potato Nachos, Coconut Curry Carrot Lentil Soup, and Broccoli Cheddar Skillet Strata. My one complaint is that there was a lot of white space on the pages and this could have been used to illustrate each recipe. Visual appeal is important!
4 out of 5
**OMG! I cannot believe that these reviews haven't been done! I am so sorry they are so late!!!**
I liked all of 5 things in this cookbook and 4 of them were in the dessert section.

I received an advance ebook of Whole in One via NetGalley to facilitate my review.
I enjoyed this cookbook and found at least a dozen recipes I'd like to try as soon as possible. The ingredients are easily acquired, the recipe directions are easy to follow and don't require any special equipment.. The recipes take advantage of in-season vegetables, and there are plenty of soup recipes perfect for the upcoming fall
I intend to purchase this cookbook when it's published - .the first recipe I make will be Herbed Pork Tenderloin with Delicata Squash and Brussels Sprouts.
A wonderfully put together cookbook. The ingredients are healthy and pretty easily obtained and recipes easy to follow. The pictures certainly add to that “yum” factor plus it gives you a visual clue as to how the food should look when all done. There are some that are easily converted to vegan, vegetarian, and/or gluten-free. This cookbook will make a great addition to any cook’s library.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for my volunteer review.
This is a cookbook chock full of healthy recipes made with whole foods in one pot or pan. There are several here that I’d like to try! The author also gives excellent suggestions for gluten substitutions if you are cooking for someone who is gluten-intolerant.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I love cooking but hate the cleaning up after. This book is great for simple cooks and simple ingredients.
Ellie Krieger is one of the most talented healthy cooking recipe creators out there. I love all her books, and this new one is no exception. The recipes are exciting and new, and all made in one pot. Ellie's recipes always taste delicious. They are rigorously tested and well balanced. Her message of moderation and her continued belief that nothing is off limits for a healthy lifestyle really set it apart in a time when it is more trendy to cut out entire food groups. Her recipes remain good,, honest, healthy food without gimmicks. This book is beautiful and a continuation of all the previous wonderful work of Ellie. I am excited to have it on my shelf and to cook through it.
Thank you Hachette Books and Netgalley for a copy of Whole in One by Ellie Krieger for review. Available October 15, 2019 this cookbook is perfect for family cooking.
I love one pan cooking. It makes it easy for me to prep and put in the oven so I don't have to think too hard about dinner. My son is still young enough that I don't often get time to focus on detail heavy recipes for the weekdays so cookbooks like this really help make it all easy.
I liked the variety of recipes in this book and it might be the first one pan cookbook I have seen that has a dessert section.
I absolutely love the concept of this cookbook. With busier lives or small kitchens the idea of one pot cooking without specialty cookware is a blessing. Whole in One is built is a great way. First it is broken into chapters by protein source so if you want a vegetable based recipe or a chicken recipe you just go to that chapter. Then within each of those chapters they are broken down by whether you want to use a pan, pot, or sheet pan. The extra benefit is that all of the recipes look to be easy, healthy options. I will definitely pull this one out the next time I need a new meal without a lot of mess.
This book was received as an ARC from Hachette Books - Da Capo Lifelong Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
Ellie Krieger has been a nutrition advocate and Food Network Star for many years proving that you can make delicious and nutritious food. Whole in One focuses on the flavor of using whole ingredients in all of your recipes with using only ONE piece of equipment and no additional gadgets making it easier than ever. I also love that she also includes healthy desserts (which for most people is the most notorious) and she has recipes for all food allergies too including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and soy and nuts. They all put home cooked meals very simply and can be done through any occasion any time of the day. I am looking forward to trying some of these recipes and sharing them with our community and maybe do this book for a potential cooking demo.
We will consider adding this title to our Cookbook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Ellie Krieger's Whole in One is a one-dish cookbook that combines convenience with deliciousness. This beautiful cookbook is organized by meal as well as by sheet pan, skillet, or pot, which makes it super easy to decide what to eat. There's abundant options from vegetarian to seafood, and most hit the sweet spot of flavorful and exciting without being too complex to make for a weeknight family dinner. The book is filled with gorgeous photos and the recipes are things I really want to eat that are also fresh and pretty healthy. There's lots of globally inspired foods and old favorites with fresh twists such as shakshuka, falafel, and the classic hummus, though the hummus is inexplicably listed in the "meat" chapter.
This book will make a great addition to the kitchens of those looking for flavorful yet practical meals that can be eaten every day without spending all your waking hours in the kitchen.
I LOVE THIS BOOK.
It makes healthy cooking simple, mess free, and inexpensive. And I like how the author is not judgey about the healthiness of the foods, referring to a "Usually-Sometimes-Rarely" method of ingredients. There are some you usually use (veggies, proteins, etc), some you use sometimes (processed foods, for example), and rarely (the buttery delicious unhealthy stuff). Nothing is "never."
