Lots of great patterns in here for someone interested in basic animal critters. Would have liked to see some more unique elements as the author has had some clever patterns on her blog in the past
My daughters want almost every creature in this book! They are so adorable. Well explained patterns and cute pictures. I would recommend this book.
I needed something for my anxiety after losing my best friend and this book gave me some great products to do. Though I don't think that were all beginners but doable. If was very well illustrated. Each thing was explained perfectly. There were three parts in this book which was all great. First section told you about the supplies you would need, including tools and what to expect. The second part is about how to assemble and finish each project kind of weird to be there before the third and final section which was the 26 animals. Also at the end you get her online links to interact with her online community.
This is a great pattern book for anyone who likes to crochet small projects. It has nice color illustrations and the stitch instructions in the beginning of the book are well illustrated and easy to understand. The 26 animals are A-Z and kids will love the wide variety. The pattern instructions are easy to follow and well written. A perfect addition to your craft library or a great gift for your favorite crocheter. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
As soon as I flipped through this book, I started making things from it. So far, I have made a turtle and a unicorn. The patterns are easy to follow and each one calls for worsted weight yarn. The stuffed animals are actually stuffed animal sized, too.
Everyone even slightly considering crocheting amigurumi animals need this book!
The book contains 26 amigurumi animals patterns arranged from A to Z. The patterns are complete instructions including how to construct them. Each are cute and would be a forever loved gift.
I have thought about trying to make an amigurumi but thought it was too difficult to try. In this book, I found easy-to-read instructions. I can’t wait to try them. The biggest issue is which one to try first since they are all adorable.
I received an ARC from Callisto Media through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review.
Sara Zimmerman has been a blogger who I have followed for years. I was pleased when she announced that she had a book with original Amigurumi patterns in it. I must say that this is one of the best crochet books I have ever read. Sara has clear, concise instructions to make a very cute collection of hug worthy toys. Included are detailed lists of supplies and tools to create each pattern. Each amigurumi character has an accompanying photo which helped me choose the first one that I want to make. I have started to crochet Dash the Dog that is done in two colors of worsted weight yarn.
Not only does Sara provide well written patterns to 26 characters she goes into depth with a section written on essential tools and supplies needed for the projects. This book is excellent for the beginner to the expert in my opinion. She covers US and UK crochet terms and abbreviations that are common in patterns. Detailed photos of the various techniques and stitches are a great aid to someone who is a visual learner. The addition of instructions on how to stuff and finish the crocheted toys is important to the success of an attractive project.
This is an excellent book that any crocheter could appreciate. Thanks to Sara Zimmerman, the publisher and NetGalley for my digital copy of the book.
My first thought while flipping through this book is that its patterns are really good for beginners. First, the beginning comes with a thorough guide to learn the very basics of crochet and amigurumi. These guides come with good quality pictures to help guide you as you try to figure out what you’re doing.
Following the guide are the patterns. There are 26 animal patterns, and each animal has a name that starts with a letter of the alphabet. Again, this book is perfect for beginners. Each amigurumi is made with basic shapes and hardly any color switching. You can work any of these up in a couple of hours.
I’m currently working on Benny the Bear and noticed that the pattern doesn’t work up in multiplies of 6 like most amigurumi patterns. Still, the pattern is easy to follow, and is turning out pretty cute! I’ll post it on my blog when it is finished.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this book, and again, it is perfect if you’re just getting into the craft!
If you are a crocheter and you love to make amigurumi, this book is perfect for you.
I've been a fan of Sarah Zimmerman (Repeat Crafter Me) for a while now. Pictures are beautiful. Patterns are very easy to follow. All the supplies are listed and explained at the beginning of the book. Directions are great step by steps.
Can't wait to tell my yarnie group about it.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Rockridge Press and NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I made the whale and octopus. The book is geared toward intermediate, but with all the great instructions, word key, step by step pictures if you are a confident beginner give it a go. I am working through the book and early jump on Christmas gifts! I would recommend this book to any crocheters library!
Super cute crochet Amigurguri. Different critters from A-Z. The patterns were super simple to follow and easy for any beginner.
I'm was excited to be able to review this book, I just had to make one of the patterns. I followed along with the x-ray fish (since I've never done Amigurguri before, yes I do crochet).
I'm looking forward to making the rest of these for my children and nieces and nephews!
These adorable little critters are just the thing to get your creative fingers flowing! There is one "critter" for each letter of the alphabet! It's really hard to pic a favorite as they are all simply precious! This book focuses on amigurumi, or the Japanese word for crocheting soft toys. It's super fun to say and even a handy pronunciation guide right at the beginning!
I love the simplicity of these creatures and how they are based on very simple crochet stitches. You can begin with any of the critters you choose as they are based on the same principle pattern with just minor feature variations. I learned first to crochet snowflakes and doilies, but haven't done any in a really long time. I was pleased how easy it was to pick this back up again after quite a few years to help my daughter learn some of the basic stitches. We used some practice yarn initially because she had never crocheted anything more than a chain of stitches before this. The basic ideas of these patterns have you building up to sculpt rather than out to make a large circle.
The hardest part seems to be attaching the various pieces (head, body, arms, and legs) together. Still, there are plenty of excellent photos illustrating the various techniques. All throughout the book there are several illustrations teaching how to stitch, stuff, and sew these adorable creatures.
Not matter which you choose to start with you can see these are some of the sweetest little stuffies you have ever laid eyes on! My daughter is really looking forward to working on several of these cute critters! Especially to give as gifts to our friends who have little ones!
Crochet Cute Critters has several cute projects. There are easy instructions to follow. I developed several project ideas. This is a wonderful Addi to any yarnist library.
Cute amigurumi to make! This is a book with very simple patterns, perfect for a beginner and easily customizable to make some really unique toys. The book has a good layout, and clear instructions, including basic crochet stitches.
Crochet Cute Critters is a tutorial instruction guide with patterns for 26 amigurumi animals. Due out 20th Aug 2019 from Rockridge Press, it's 140 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
The book is attractively and logically laid out. The graphics are appealing and clear. The book is lavishly illustrated and I really appreciate the closeness and detail of the photography. It's really easy to see what the author is doing in the pictures. The book has a short introduction including the history of amigurumi (and how to pronounce it) along with a short pep talk about why she started crocheting soft toys.
There are three main parts. The first section includes a very thorough intro to crochet and tools and supplies. The section is well illustrated with clear photos of different brands of crochet hooks, what they look like, and the structural differences. There's also a handy chart with metric/US size and gauge measurements. The author presupposes no previous knowledge of crochet and the instruction is upbeat and positive (and reassuring). There's enough info here to start crocheting for both visual and hands-on learners. She also covers other supplies, like yarn and stuffing, safety eyes, embroidery thread, needle choices, etc.
The second section is the assembly and finishing chapter. All of these designs are stitched together from different parts: arms, ears, legs, heads, etc. The author takes the reader through general assembly step-by-step. Again, the pictures are large, clear, and understandable.
The third section includes the individual animals. All of them have cute(ish) alliterative names: Alex Alligator, Benny Bear, Callie Cat, and so forth. There are 26 in all, one for each letter of the alphabet. The iguana, bee, jellyfish, snail, unicorn, and x-ray fish just absolutely tickled me. They're all adorable and safe for all ages. I didn't finish any of the patterns yet, just tried out parts here and there; an ear, a leg, a couple of different arms, etc. I found no errors in the patterns I tried out.
The author has included links to her online presence in the credits at the end of the book for readers who wish to follow or interact with the online community.
For Kindle Unlimited subscribers; this title is available in the KU subscription to borrow and download for free. It's also worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.
Well done and a nice selection of patterns which are fundamentally different from one another, giving the reader a broad platform for creating alternative amigurumi.
Five stars. Well worth a read for crochet interested readers.
This compilation of easy to follow patterns and cute designs is great for any crochet enthusiast.
Beginner friendly and design patterns that work.
I have been following Sarah for several years now on her blog and on Facebook. Her patterns are so amazing and this book is nothing short of being amazing! I have read the book and started working on one of the patterns that are easy to follow. I am currently making an alligator for my nephew who loves them. The pattern is simple to follow and I can't wait until I have it finished to give him. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for any level crocheter. Will make a perfect gift for someone!
I was so excited to get this crochet book! Super cute projects that are simple enough for most levels of crocheters.
Sarah Zimmerman has created 26 wonderful, cute, and cuddly crochet animal patterns for us to make. Each pattern has a detailed picture of the animal as well as the height. She lists the materials needed before you get started. The patterns are easy to read and follow. I love her work, and I have followed her blog Repeat Crafter Me for years. She doesn't disappoint. Yes there is a unicorn. I know there are probably a lot of people who wanted to know.
I've been wanting to try a cute Amigurumi animal as a baby gift, but they looked too intimidating. This book has straightforward and easy to follow directions for creation and assembly of several adorable animals. I eventually want to make them all!
Thank you to Sarah Zimmerman, Rockridge Press, and Netgalley for the chance to read and review this book.
