The last couple of years, I almost solely read thrillers and crime stories, but form time to time I throw in a real tear jerker or a romantic comedy. This time I had my eye on this emotional story and I most certainly enjoyed it.
When yuu read a thriller it's often no so easy to figure out who the culprit was. In this kind of books you more or less can guess which path the author will take you on. In this case though, it is not so straight forward. Not at all...
It must be devastating to have a person you love being brought to the hospital. Even though it's sometimes only for something quite simple, you worry because you want them getting well and coming home soon again.
What if it is something more serious, even life threatening?
It's already hard for adults to deal with this, but what if a young girl is involved. How to tell her? Or should you keep it a secret how dire the situation is? It might divide the family in two, even rip them apart at times when they should be there for each other...
As usual, different people have different opinions about that question. You have to respect the decision made by the next of kin even though you don't see eye to eye.
I could see both sides and admit they both had strong points, but Adam was standing too close to see the right picture. The rest of the family tried to make him see things from their point of view, but he was too focused on one thing and that muddled up his common sense big time.
It certainly is a story filled with lots of sadness, but also with love and realizing how lucky you are even though you sometimes don't see it like that anymore. On the other hand, I felt sometime the story was a bit too slow paced and kept going on about the same things too many times. It got a bit on my nerves and took away some of the emotions I should have kept my focus on.
Anyways, if I look beyond that, it still was a very good book. 4 stars
Thank you
A big emotional novel. Who can resist a mom who has written a letter to her daughter on each birthday. Izzie is seven and too young to read them but Sarah's sister Mia does. Will Sarah survive? No spoilers from me. A very good read.
I really love Sinead Moriarty and received an ARC of Seven Letters from Netgalley. I was so looking forward to this book but my expectations did not match up to it. The story felt too long and very dreary. It was difficult to have any compassion for how the family acted and I was not connected to any character and so left me deeply disappointed.
3.5 stars - “There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go.”
And that sums it all up beautifully. This is certainly heartbreaking and a tearjerker and emotional. I was exhausted after reading this. I can't imagine having to go through this and make these type of decisions. Everyone involved has their thoughts and opinions - as will every reader.
I think I need to go read some Dr. Seuss or stare at picture books of dancing unicorns. I've been reading a lot of emotionally heavy books lately, and they are taking a toll.
Sarah loves you daughter, Izzy, and every year she writes her a letter on her birthday. When Sarah becomes pregnant with a son the family is excited and happy but disaster strikes and now Izzy's world is upside down. Izzy's dad and aunt are fighting constantly about Sarah's treatment. Their once happy family is falling apart and the clock is ticking with Sarah's life. Sinead Moriarty has written numerous books and I've enjoyed several of them. She always writes an emotional story and this one is a tear jerker. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
An emotional, heartwrenching book! You feel everything each character feels. The book is one of the best I have read and will stay with me for many years to come. It's incredible!
Sarah is a loving mum to seven-year-old Izzie, a doting wife to stressed-out husband Adam and a best friend to her sister Mia, and is also pregnant with her second child.
When she suddenly collapses and slips into unconsciousness, it’s the first time the family will have to face life without their beloved Sarah, the glue who holds them together. How will they ever explain to Izzie that her mother might not make it. And can Sarah’s unborn baby possibly survive?
As Sarah’s condition worsens, the family begins to fall apart as they argue about Sarah’s treatment. Mia finds herself walking through her sister’s home trying to feel close to her again. And there she stumbles across the letters – seven in total – one for each year of Izzie’s life so far, written on each of her birthdays.
It is as if Sarah had planned for a day when she might not be around to tell her daughter just how much she loves her. But while Mia wonders if Sarah will ever have a chance to write an eighth letter, the family is forced to make a heart-breaking decision that will change them forever.

What an emotional read this is, a real tear-jerker ! Sarah's collapse has such a profound impact on the whole family and this amazing book explains how each person deals with the situation.. Highly recommended with an accompanying box of tissues
Wow, this book is amazing. I found myself weeping in several places. This book is so real, you want to call your friends to check.on them when its over. Do yourself a favor and buy this book. Hold on tight.
This book pulled my heartstrings from the very beginning.
Sarah had a great family with a loving husband and sweet daughter Izxie, when she found herself to be pregnant. A mishap and she was in coma. Her husband Colin found it difficult to deal with it. Meanwhile, sister Mia found seven letters written to Izzie, and that changed their lives.
My first book by Sinead Moriarty, and the story squeezed my emotions from my heart till they became tears falling down my cheeks. The emotions ravaged me as I read through the pages. The characters felt real and ethical issues were dealt with sensitively by the author.
Every word written by this author touched me, whether it was the predicament shown over Sarah's future treatment or the frustration of the loved ones who felt helpless. The talented author had done a fabulous job with this highly emotional book. A complete rollercoaster, I was twisted and turned, and left dry. I cried for 2 days after reading this book
What an amazing book. I have read other books by this author and this one was the best ever
A great book and a thought provoking read
This was not an easy book to read, so many emotional and ethical issues covered. This was a really good book and I'm so glad I read it.
Wow, what an amazing book.I love sineads books that explore deep and complex family relationships and this book has that in abundance!
To write about such a life changing ethical situation with such sensitivity, tact and diplomacy is such a skill, as a reader you are drawn into the unenviable position that Sarah’s family find themselves in, it is so hard to imagine the emotional, ethical dilemmas they face yet you feel you run the gauntlet of emotions with them, I found tears running down my face as the awfulness of the situation is described from each of the families view point and the effect this could have on little izzies life in the future especially when there didn’t seem to be any way forward. To think day in day out some families are experiencing similar situations, it really makes you thankful for what you have and to make the most of each day as we never know what’s in store for us!
A truly remarkable book that will remain with me for a long time, thank you so much net galley for this early read
Sinead Moriarty has a gift for getting her reader to experience deep emotion while reading her books. This book perfectly captured the emotions of a family that faces an unthinkable event. Highly recommend!
This family drama shows how a happy normal family can have everything change in a moment. The author does a nice job of showing the impact on each extended family member when Sarah has a medical emergency. For me the story of the daughters (Izzy and Riley ) were the most interesting and seeing the family through their eyes were the most heartbreaking and human viewpoints. Some interesting subplots are included and I appreciated the wrap up of Jack's storyline. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't my favorite. This is a sad book and tugs at your heartstrings. (Yes, I shed a few tears, it's hard not to get emotional with this story.) I didn't love any of the characters. I hated the way Sarah was portrayed as a saint and could do no wrong. She was perfect while everyone else was flawed. Izzy didn't seem believable to me. At times, I pictured a toddler instead of a seven year old. I think she needed to be told the truth sooner instead of letting her believe her mom was going to wake up and walk out of the hospital. Riley seemed like she was older than fifteen. I thought the seven letters would play a more prominent part in the book. The reader doesn't even know what's written in the letters.
I do recommend the book. the book was beautifully written and makes you think what you would do in that situation. I'm a huge fan of the author's previous books.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Seven Letters of Love is a beautifully written book. This book is a real tear jerker so have your tissues ready. Great plot with well developed characters. Highly recommend this book. Thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
How can a family live without its heart?

After picking up and putting down, book after book, I decided to try this book. It was away from my preferred genre and by an author who I'd never read before, and i am so glad I did!!
This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster and i feel exhausted. I literally could not put the book down and read it in two days. Whilst it is a hard subject matter to read about, the way the author described each individual characters emotions and actions, was truly wonderful.
I wouldn't hesitate to recomend this book, and will be now reading sinead's other books!
4.5* rounded up to 5*.
A beautifully written yet heartbreaking book that I couldn’t put down.
When Sarah, who is 14 weeks pregnant, suddenly collapses and is placed on life support, her family will have to decide whether to keep her alive for the sake of her baby or let her go peacefully. As the weeks progress, the family have differing opinions on what they should do which causes a devastating split between them.
An excellent book dealing with a difficult subject. It is a compelling and thought provoking read.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Sinead Moriarty for the absolute pleasure in reading and reviewing this book. What an emotional rollercoaster this was. Sinead Moriarty is one of my favourite authors and she didn't fail to impress me again. Seven Letters of Love deals with the delicate issue of preserving the life of a brain dead patient who is pregnant for the sake of the foetus. The lovely Sarah has every thing to live for and is the loving wife of Adam, mother to 7 year old Lizzy and sister to Mia. She has tried for years to give Izzy a sister and is delighted to get pregnant with a little boy. When she falls Ill at 14 weeks pregnant no one can foresee the devastation that the family will face. The family will be torn apart. How far do you go to give a baby a chance of life. Is a woman more than an incubator. Who gets to make the decision of what becomes of Sarah. Do not miss this one. Unputdownable.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! I loved it and could not put it down. What a difficult decision this family had to make. I loved all of the characters and the love in this family for each other was amazing. How do you possibly decide it's time to end a life? What an emotional roller coaster ride.
