A joyful holiday read. Loved this book set in Nantucket. Filled with good characters you can love, along with the few you won’t, the plot moves along with enough emotion to keep you invested. Recommend.
Did you know that Nancy Thayer wrote Christmas books? I love her summer books set on Nantucket, so when I saw Let It Snow at NetGalley I had to pick it up (though I already had too many ARCs for October). It is just as wonderful as any of her beach reads. Now I don't know if I want to visit Nantucket in the summer or in the winter.
I was totally psyched to see a Christmas book from Nancy Thayer. She is one of my favorite authors, but I thought she only wrote beach reads. I absolutely love Christmas stories. So finding Let It Snow is like finding the golden ticket.
And I have to tell you, it lived up to all my expectations. It has the wonderful characters that Thayer is known for creating. The descriptions of Nantucket are detailed without bogging down the story. It is sweet and romantic, just as a Christmas story should be.
It is also a quick read. I read it in two evenings. I just couldn't put it down, but I didn't have to stay up way past my bedtime either (which is a good thing at the beginning of a workweek).
Let It Snow is a bit of a modern-day Scrooge retelling with some themes from It's a Wonderful Life thrown in. Christina and her 3 friends rent sheds on the wharf for their shops. Wealthy Oscar Bittlesman, who has recently become an island year-arounder, has decided to raise the rent by 10%. Christina, who is alone after losing both parents in the past year or so, has fallen in love with Oscar's 9-year-old granddaughter Wink who helps out at Christina's toy shop some times. She also thinks Oscar's son is The One. But can she really be with a man whose father is going to force her to close her shop after the holidays?
Christina isn't the only one who fell in love with Wink. She is adorable and really adds something to the story. She is the character that pushes the story forward with her honest, and often blunt, observations and questions.
Though I'm a decade older than Christina, I could definitely identify and sympathize with her. I know what it is like to be alone at the holidays. I still have my parents, but we live so close to each other that I still come home to an empty house on Christmas Eve. But the story isn't all bittersweetness. There are some funny moments between the characters. As well as joy, particularly when Christina decides to invite friends to a Christmas cookie decorating party and then inviting friends to decorate the tree with her.
Let It Snow is a definite must read this Christmas season.

I’ve been a Nancy Thayer fan for quite some time. I enjoy when my summer beach authors write winter books. This wasn’t my favorite. Some things worked and some didn’t. As always I love the Nantucket setting and this was no different. This book was very predictable which is fine in this type of book. It makes for a light read after finishing something heavier. My biggest qualm was that the main characters are supposed to be around 30 years old but they come across much older to me. I don’t find them believable for 30 year olds, even in a quaint island town. Otherwise this was your typical Scrooge/Grinch type storyline, throw in a love story. It’s a light, Christmas read.
Get ready for the Holidays with Let It Snow, Nancy Thayer's latest winter romance! Set on Nantucket, shop owners are threatened with a rent increase by the town's rich landlord. But will a little romance creeping in here and there just might be able to save them.
I enjoy reading Nancy Thayer books. Unfortunately that was not the case with this title. I began it but lost interest in it fairly soon so I am unable to review this book. Many people have different opinions of the books they read and I think a lot matters on your frame of mind. After reading Nancy's previous books I just felt this was not up her standards.
Let It Snow was an enjoyable read and the perfect boost to the holiday morale. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
#NancyThayer #letitsnow #Netgalley #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #books📚 to get in the spirit of Christmas and all that it is I requested this charming little book. You are soon to have your heart captured by little Wink, Christina, and all of the other characters that take this sweet story of friendship, love, and Christmas spirit. You have Oscar, the old Ebenezer Scrooge, but will his heart melt? This book is one to be gobbled up and enjoyed by a fire as the snow falls ❤️
I really enjoyed this book. Following Nantucket shop owner Christina in the weeks leading up to Christmas while being dazzled by a 9 year old shoplifter who is just looking for affection. Christina then meets Andy and tries to navigate what could be a relationship while faces fears of losing her business to his father. Warm and charming, a perfect book to get in the mood for the holiday season.
Let it Snow is a cute Hallmark type book. It takes place in Nantucket at Christmas time . A cute book to get you in the mood for the holiday season . Perfect to cuddle up with a blanket and some hot cocoa.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher for an ARC for my honest review .
Christina and the other "Shedders" – shopkeepers whose businesses are located in one of the sheds by the shore in Nantucket – are preparing for what they hope will be a busy Christmas season when they are notified that their Scrooge-like landlord is raising their rent to a level that their businesses will not be able to sustain. Meanwhile, Christina befriends a young girl whose family situation seems to be less than ideal. When she meets the girl's uncle, who may be one of the most eligible bachelors in Nantucket this season, her life changes in many ways.
I love visiting Nantucket with Ms. Thayer every Christmas season, so I was really looking forward to reading this book. Maybe it's because it's still early October, or maybe because the weather here has been more like summer than fall, or maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind for this type of story, but this book did not quite live up to my expectations. While I liked most of the characters, it seemed to read like a Hallmark Christmas movie, right down to the almost insta-love between the handsome, wealthy bachelor and the down-on-her luck shopkeeper, and it reminded me why I tend to avoid romance novels. That said, if you're looking for a feel-good story to get you into the holiday spirit, this is definitely a book to consider. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.
Thank you to @netgalley and @randomhousepublishing for a digital ARC of this book. Let it Snow by Nancy Thayer is such a sweet and heartwarming Christmas story, sure to get you in the mood for the upcoming holiday season. The story follows Christina, a year round shopkeeper on Nantucket, and her relationships with the Bittlesman family; including the patriarch (who happens to be her landlord), his children and a sweet 9-year old girl.
Nancy Thayer's Let It Snow was a very refreshing Christmas story. On the island of Nantucket, everyone is not wealthy and it does not always snow in December. Christina and her friends the "shedders" have small shops near the wharf and suddenly are hit with a 10% rate hike in January. A new customer Wink has become a regular customer and as it turns out Wink's Grandfather, a modern-day Scrooge is the new owner of the "shedders" property. As Christina becomes more fond of Wink, Christina meets the rest of her family. A family that includes a nice bachelor uncle. This is a great Christmas story where in the end happiness wins the day. I would definitely recommend.
Experience Christmas in Nantucket, a perfect backdrop to a sweet, cozy, holiday romance. Christina is strong woman who loves her community. When a young girl, Wink, learns a tough life lesson in her store, Christina comes face to face with her very wealthy family, the Bittlesman’s. As part of a community group of shopkeepers called the Shedders, Christina gets nominated to take on the patriarch of the family with the hopes of saving their shops from a devastating rent hike. Along the way, Christina makes a new friend, falls in love, inspires others to be true to themselves, and helps her community band together. I love the infusions of Nantucket culture and glimpses of what life in this sea town might actually look like. A perfect feel good story to snuggle up with under a cozy blanket next to a glowing Christmas tree.

The perfect book to get you in the mood for Christmas. Set in New England, at Christmas time, shop keepers are preparing for the busy shopping season. Christina, one of the shop keepers, spots a shoplifter. A young girl whom she quickly learns to love. She meets the young girl's uncle when he comes into the shop with her and a romance begins brewing. No romance is complete without some twists and turns thrown in. This would make an excellent Hallmark Channel Christmas movie.
This is a beautiful and sweet Christmas story with a hallmark-esk type holiday romance! It takes place on the shore of Nantucket where Christina and four others called The Shedders who have their stores in drafty little sheds on the shoreline.
Christina catches a young girl, Wink, trying to steal a mermaid book and decides instead of turning her in to her parents or the authorities that maybe the little girl would help around the shop for a couple hours to earn it. Only to learn that Wink is the granddaughter to Oscar Bittleman, an extremely wealthy New Yorker who has retired to Nantucket and also the owner of her shed.
Wink is forced to return the items by her mother Delia and uncle Andy. Delia is preoccupied with her divorce and Andy is busy running his father's firm in Brooklyn. This leads Christina to the idea that Wink helping around the shop is a great distraction. Christina and Andy begin a beautiful friendship as they celebrate Christmas together.
But will the grouchy Oscar Bittleman ruin Christmas for the Shedders? And will Christina and Andy be able to explore their feelings even if they are from two different worlds? Maybe Christina can use the spirit of Christmas to thaw the grouchy old man's heart.
I am a sucker for all Hallmark holiday romance movies and this book right here gave me allll those feelings. If you love a good holiday romance rated PG-- this book is for you! It makes you believe that all things are possible with some holiday cheer.
Holiday fun at Nantucket! Not overly complicated - a simple story of a shop keeper who befriends a young girl then her attractive uncle - but good for a hot summer day when you're ready for cooler weather and the Christmas holiday season.
I loved this book! I'm not normally a person who reads Christmas stories, but thus one had me hooked from page one. Such a delightful, feel good read! Thank you netgalley for the ARC.
I really enjoyed this sweet Christmas tale. I loved that it incorporated so many characters in a meaningful way.
Christina Antonioni was the perfect protagonist preparing for the holidays at her Nantucket toy shop, unpacking last-minute shipments and decorating for her loyal Christmas shoppers and her interactions with the Bittlesman family made for the perfect story of love and family.
This book was the perfect start to my Christmas reading season. I loved the characters; the story was engaging; the Happily Ever After couldn't have been better. I couldn't put this short heartwarming story down until I finished it. I read this book a couple weeks ago (right as my computer died and I couldn't easily write a review) and just thinking about it now is making me smile!!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the story overall. The characters are likable, the story was great. A fun holiday read. My one criticism is how the author had the main character Christina constantly have conversations/input with her inner voice (referred to as Inner Christina). I found it cheesy and annoying to keep saying, “Inner Christina”. I think just having the inner thoughts in italics would’ve made the same point without stating each time it was her inner voice. I enjoyed the book though, and would recommend it despite the annoyance factor.
