Discussed in SBTB’s biweekly whatcha reading: https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2019/10/whatcha-reading-october-2019-part-one/

“I just finished an arc of Chloe Neill’s Wicked Hour ( A | BN | K | G | AB ), the second book in the Heirs of Chicagoland series. I have mixed feelings despite liking most of it. I am completely invested in the relationship between Elisa and Connor; they have a species enmity/childhood enemies/adult friends-to-lovers vibe. But as with the previous book, I am ambivalent about the PNR mystery subplot. I’d honestly be okay skimming the B-plot and focusing on the couple instead. If you like vampire/werewolf/magic politics, then you might enjoy the series and it’s worth a try (I’m liking it FAR more than the previous series, which I rage-quit after Something Unforgivable happened).”

WILD HUNGER started off strong but left us wanting more about Elisa and Connor... WICKED HOUR responds to that need, by developping the main characters' chemistry, which is - ouch - SIZZLING!!! I love their banter and how they learn to rediscover their new more adult sides.
Ethan and Merit stay true to themselves, Gabriel makes me fall even more in love with his character, Lulu and Theo are hilarious and Alexei is "sweet". But my favorite so far is Eleanor of Aquitaine. That terror is my spirit animal!

Unfortunately, it's the rhythm that I found uneven for lack of better word. The story drags at the beginning and when action finally takes place, it slows down again to come to an abrupt end...

Though I admit I am torn about this book, WICKED HOUR is worth reading and truth be told, I believe HEIRS OF CHICAGOLAND has the potential to be bigger and better than CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES.

I am so excited when I see a new book by Chloe Neill! Now as I read the Heirs of Chicagoland series, I feel like I know Connor, Prince of the Pack, and Elise, a one of a kind vampire, since I've known their parents from previous books. I love this storyline, the families, and the interactions between their children grown up and facing their future together. Great characters and dialogue make this a wonderful world to get lost in. More please.

Loved it! Love Connor and Elise. Such great chemistry and especially enjoyed their flashbacks to when they were kids. Their romantic chemistry is off the charts and am glad they are taking it slow, I love the build-up. I hope to see more of Lulu and Alexei in future installments. Now starts the long wait for book 3...*sigh*
