This book's blurb had me from "twins" and I was immediately sucked into this world.
Twin brothers that shared a bond: Bridge was always the bigger, stronger, protective brother, and Julian was the one who always needed protection and was searching for approval. But one day in their early teens, they are split apart by their parents. Julian was chosen to stay with his wealthy, controlling father and be groomed to run the family business, while Bridge was sent off with his mother to lead a much harder life.
As adults, they have no contact. Bridge is resentful as he struggles to work and take care of his mom. Julian seems to have everything he ever wanted. including the perfect fiancee'. And one tragic event changes everything and their worlds are colliding again. Bridge is enlisted by his estranged father to impersonate his brother and smoothe things over at the company until Julian can recover.
But now Bridge is walking into his brother's life and relationship. And he finds Izzy to be a wounded bird who is also angry and distrustful. It seems Julian has pushed to her to almost the point of no return. But she begins to respond to this improved version of "Julian" while Bridge does his best to resist. He struggles under the weight of the lies he is being forced to tell. But it is just a matter of time before sexual tension boils over things get even more complicated.
Secrets, lies, lust, love, betrayal, manipulation, greed, and heartbreak cause layers of guilt and fear of consequences. They know they are on borrowed time.
Eventually, secrets will be revealed and the whole messy situation will all come out in the open. There are many variables and layers to the truth. Someone is bound to get hurt. And the instigator of it all is their cold, manipulative father. This book brings the angst, and had me biting my fingernails, totally tense, and just waiting for the big moments I knew were coming. For much of the book, I could not let myself get emotionally attached to Julian because I really loved Bridge. So I was wanting Bridge and Izzy to keep progressing and for them to have a way to find their happiness in the midst of the mess. But I did feel bad for Julian at times as well.
I am not a person that usually enjoys books about love triangles, but this one is different and was carefully constructed to avoid things that might bother some readers. I appreciated how things were handled. This book does not end on a cliffhanger and is a complete story for the couple, but I cannot wait to see more with these characters in book two of the Covet series.
Blog and social medial links go live on release day Nov 5, 2019
I enjoy everything Rachel Van Dyken writes. She creates real characters who I'd want to be friends with. They have great chemistry, banter and humor. The humor was missing in this book a bit, but I still was sucked in.
Bridge must pose as his twin brother Julian, who has been in a serious car accident, to help his ill mother get the care that she needs. He's basically blackmailed by his terrible father to be Julian until the real Julian can heal in the hospital. Julian and Bridge separated when their parents divorced and Bridge lived with his mother. They haven't been in each other's lives in years.
Isobel is Julian's long-time girlfriend/fiancée. She broke up with him on the day of the accident as Julian has been cheating on her. Bridge steps in as Julian and Isobel is to believe he is Julian, but he is nicer and treats her a lot better. It was a little farfetched as Bridge is more muscular and has some tattoos. I had a little bit of a hard time with her actually falling for this scheme, but I kept telling myself she knows nothing about a twin brother. The author would throw in little hints like Isobel noticing that Bridge's hands were calloused and I thought that she would figure it out soon, but nope.
Per Bridge and Julian's awful father, "Julian" and Isobel are to get married in a week. This had me shaking my head. Would the marriage even be legal as he is posing as his brother? I was still wondering when it actually happened, even though she knew it wasn't really Julian by then.
Overall, another great story. Bridge was a wonderful hero and just an all around great man. Just a little unbelievable and missing some trademark humor. I still was sucked in and read it in one day.
Thank you to NetGalley and Skyscape for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book centers around two brothers Julian and Bridge. Julian craves his father's (Mr. Tennyson's) approval, however Bridge is determined to protect him from his father's controlling ways. When their mother has decided she has enough, they divorce with the father taking Julian and leaving the mother and Bridge alone with nothing of their luxurious lifestyle they are used to.
Fast forward many years. Julian is now working 2-3 jobs to support his sick mother. His brother is living the life his father has always imagined for him. He is slated to become the CEO of his financial firm until tragedy strikes. Julian's fiancee Isobel wants to end their engagement and Julian is in a horrible accident leaving him in a coma.
Mr. Tennyson tracks Bridge down and offers him a deal he can't refuse. I wants him to pose as his brother Julian because his company is in the mist of a major buyout and naming Julian CEO. In return, he will pay all the medical expenses for his mother. Bridge isn't happy to be under his father's manipulative thumb, but he loves his mom too much too pass on this opportunity. It isn't until he meets Isobel, under the disguise that he realizes how he failed to protect his brother and that now more than anything he wants to steal his fiancee.
This is an extremely quick read. I started it late at night and stayed up until I was done. This book tugged on my heart strings and made me shed a couple tears. A difficult situation but a chance at love. The realization that you can't make everyone happy. Would you be willingly to give it all up and walk away or would you fight for what has now become the most important person in your life?
I struggled with this one a bit. There were parts that I really loved but the fact that it was built on this huge lie just made me so nervous and squirmy that I had a hard time enjoying it. There was so much build up and once we finally got to the good stuff it just seemed like too little, too late. Plus, then the end was just so rushed and seemed really thrown together. I did enjoy some of the banter and flirting between Bridge and Izzy but like I said, too little, too late. That being said, I am kind of interested to see where Julian’s story goes...
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this arc!
Omg this book… I’ve literally never read anything like it before! I want to start off by saying that I was so skeptical from reading the synopsis. I had it in my head that Julian and Izzy were happy and in love and then his brother came along and was basically a home wrecker. THAT IS NOT THE CASE AT ALL! I don’t consider this a spoiler because right from the get go Izzy is calling off the engagement anyway and as the story unfolds you learn about a ton of other issues they were having, but you’ll have to read the book to get the full scoop on that! So, from that moment it all made more sense to me and I was captivated!!! Bridge is literally the sweetest most caring and genuine guy! The world needs more men like him, for real. I love how his whole mission is to do right by his brother but also heal the heart that, that same brother has broken.
And lets talk about their super shady father for a minute.. what an asshole! It’s crazy what money and power can do to a person. Will he get whats coming to him?
Stealing Her ends on a half cliffhanger id say. Bridge and Izzy’s story comes full circle and they do get a HEA but theres more in the works where the company and their family is concerned. Plus were obviously all wanting to know whats going to become of Julian who just got his entire world upended! Its the perfect mix of closure but also leaves you wanting more. I absolutely cannot wait until February when well get to read Julians story!!!
Way to go RVD, another amazing book that I will surely never forget!! You kill it every time!!
I wasn’t sure how Rachel was going to pull this off, because it’s not an easy situation. But, she knocked it out of the park (as usual). The story didn’t go in all of the expected ways, but it definitely went the way it should have. Bridge and Izzy are just the best, and Julian...well, I won’t spoil anything but I can’t wait for his book!
A totally different romance that i loved! The storyline kept you going and omg i so loved the dynamic of Julian. Bridge and Izzy! Great job!
This was pretty good switcheroo story. It was sad what happened with Bridge and Julian when they were younger and getting split up which led to them becoming estranged. Izzy was an okay character for me, I actually liked Bridge the best. I’ll definitely check out the next book because I want to see what happens with Julian.
5 stars plus
Epic!!!
Stealing Her was an epic, riveting, heart in my throat book that I couldn’t put it down!
This is the authors best book to date! Absolutely hooked from start to finish and I couldn’t get over the way the storyline went. I had to calm down as I finished reading!
Well written and captivating! I don’t know what more to say! It has to be read to understand for yourself!
If you love angst, romance, steamy moments and characters that will make your heart beat fast then this is for you!!!
This book has so much going for it so do yourself a favour and grab it! You will not regret it all all
5+ Stars
What a hangover this book has given me! I am at a loss for adequate words to describe Stealing Her. The blurb is interesting, but it doesn’t do this outstanding book justice. The plot is fast paced and captivating. I had great difficulty putting the book down to go to work. I dove right back in during my lunch break!
Bridge is strong, but he is also tough mentally and emotionally. I quickly came to like him for his big heart and for the way he takes care of his mother (and brother). Isobel is clearly hurting and emotionally damaged. It took me a bit to warm up to her because she was so bitter, suspicious, and defensive...and rightfully so. They are both incredibly complex, well-written characters, and they most definitely belong together. I hated Marla so much. What an awful person.
I wasn’t ready for the story to end, and I’m hoping Julian will get a book of his own. I highly recommend this book as one of my best reads in 2019!
Holy cow, what a book!! This is one of the rare books that I absolutely could not put down! Stealing Her is about an estranged brother falling for his twin’s fiancée. Bridge and Julian are identical twin brothers and haven’t been apart of each other’s lives since teenagers. When Julian is involved in a serious car accident, Bridge reluctantly agrees to pretend to be Julian for business purposes at his father’s request. But, he doesn’t count on meeting and falling for Julian’s fiancée, Izzy. This also adds a forbidden element to the story. I cringed often but also really rooted for Bridge and Izzy. It’s told in dual POV, which helped understand each side. There were so many secrets, lies and deception. This was such a unique story and something that will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommend!

Stealing Her is the first book in the Covet series by Rachel Van Dyken. It is currently scheduled for release on November 5 2019. It is listed as a young adult novel on Netgalley, but I think it is better suited for he new adult and adult markets based on the age and lives of the characters.
My estranged twin brother, Julian, was always the wonder boy—and soon-to-be CEO of our ruthless father’s corporation. My mother and me? Left behind. Now, years after tearing our family apart, my father dares to ask me for a favor? Pretend to be Julian while he fights to survive a tragic accident. It can save the company. Nobody will be the wiser. It’ll be our secret. I can play Dad’s favorite. I’ll do it for Julian. And for my mother, who’ll want for nothing. But this double life comes with a beauty of a hitch: my very real feelings for Julian’s fiancée, Isobel. Not only am I betraying Julian, I’m deceiving a woman I love. She doesn’t suspect a thing. As lies compound, lines are crossed and loyalties tested, all I can ask myself is…what have I done? Because sooner or later something’s got to give. There’s no way I’m giving up Isobel. But once the truth is exposed, it might not be my choice at all.
Stealing Her is a book with all the feels. Bridge resents his father, and worries about his twin even though they have not spoken in years. When tragedy strikes their father's manipulation ramps up to epic proportions and suddenly everything is on the line. Trying to protect his mother and brother Bridge does the unthinkable and pretends to e his brother to everyone, including Julian's fiance Isobel. Watching Bridge and Isobel dance around each other and all the lies and past hurts was very well written- and left me holding my breath on a regular basis. I was always worries about when the other shoe was going to drop- because I knew there was more damage for the twin's father to cause. I enjoyed all the twists and turns- some took me completely by surprise, and others I almost anticipated on some level. The pacing and feels were perfectly paced- and I was left really caring about most of the characters and how they were feeling by the end of the book. I am very eager to see what happens in the next book of the series and hope to see Julian find his own happy ending.
Stealing Her is a contemporary romance with so many feels, twists, and moments that had me holding my breath. Van Dyken is becoming one of my favorite authors. I cannot wait to read what happens next!
I read an advanced copy for an honest review.
Julian and Bridge are identical twins and best friends.
When their parents divorce, each parent got a son and the boys are separated. Julian remains in a life of riches and luxury. Bridge is now reduced to poverty and his mother scraping by to make ends meet.
Flash forward to the present. Julian is a workaholic, womanizing self entitled jerk. His fiancee wants to break it off,but Julian brushes it off.
Julian gets in a serious car accident and is now in a coma.
Bridge has grown up hating his father and brother. His mother is dying a slow death and their is hardly any money to pay her medical bills.
Bridge's father shows up and wants Bridge to take his brother's place in all aspects. It will help with a merger and keep the press quiet. He only agrees to help his mother and brother.
When he meets Isobel, Julian's fiancee I think it was love at first sight for him. He us torn between helping his brother and getting the girl for himself.
Isobel wonders who this "new" Julian is. It's like the guy she remembers from college, not the jerk he had become.
Can these two find real love?
Is it really betrayal when her love for Julian had died before the car accident?
Is the karma for Julian acting like a jerk?
What happens if and when he wakes up?
These questions are answered, but I won't spoil it.
This was a wonderful story about love, and taking care of that special someone, no matter what.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher**
Stealing Her is a book that has a little bit of everything - drama, angst, heartbreak, healing and sexiness as well - all things that Rachel Van Dyken does a fabulous job of incorporating into all of her books.
Bridge has always wanted to take care of those around him. When he was younger, it was his brother and for the last decade he's done everything he could to care for his ailing mother. When his father blew their family apart, everything that Bridge had known changed and the grudge that he held against his father was gigantic. When Julian, Bridge's twin, is in a devastating car accident that leaves him fighting for survival, their father shows up with an offer that Bridge simply can't refuse.
While stepping into Julian's life should have been fairly easily considering how close they used to be, the one thing Bridge didn't count on was Julian's fiancee, Isobel. She's beautiful, captivating and clearly ticked off at his brother. Will he be able to keep his distance, both physically and emotionally, while pretending to be his brother? And, will everything that Bridge thought about Julian be blown apart when he realizes what his brother was really dealing with in terms of their father and his expectations?
I was drawn into this story from the very first word. I didn't want to put it down because I just wanted to know what was going to happen! While this was not a conventional way for Bridge and Isobel to meet, it was undeniable the connection they had and I really wanted to see them together in the end. While they had hurdles to overcome, Van Dyken did a great job maneuvering all of those, making it even more intriguing.
I loved this book and I can't wait for the next one in this series!
I couldn't wait to read this book, I'd read a few chapters and it left me needing more, I love Rachel's writing and this book kept me hooked the whole way through, I had real-life things to be done but all I wanted to do was keep on reading lol. This has been my favorite book this year from Rachel.
I have adored every Rachel Van Dyken book I have read, however this one and I were not a fit, and I did DNF at 20%
(star rating only because I have to leave one)
This might be my favorite book out of this author!!!! All the feels!!! I can't so many emotions and feelings! best book of 2019!
I really thought this would be the book that would break my "3-stars-books-or-lower"-slump, and at the beginning it seemed that way, but the more I read it the more I got annoyed with the MCs and the story.
Reading just the blurb of this book, I knew this would be some kind of weird love triangle and cheating would be involved eventually. I started the book anyway and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. First I want to clear up that I really really really HATE cheating. The only time it is justified is when we know that the significant other is a monster/horrible person/cheated too.. you get what I mean.
Anyway, the plot is that Julian is getting into an accident and in a coma and Bridge (his estranged twin) is pretending to be him infront of the public, to save the company, and Isobel (Julian's fiancee). Knowing Bridge and Izzy would fall in love with each other and betray Julian, I was on board with it at the beginning cause Julian really was portrayed as the bad guy. <spoiler>From Izzy's point of view, he cheated repeatitively and was 'emotionally abusing' her by disregarding her fears and opinion.</spoiler> Therefore of course I was rooting for Bridge and Izzy to get their happy end! But as the story progressed I found myself feeling more and more sorry for Julian. He still did a lot of shitty things I don't want to condone, but at the same time he didn't do half of the things he was accusted of. I don't know where the turning point was, but after a while I just didn't see Julian as the villian any longer and was rooting for him to finally wake up and take back his life, not necessarly getting Isobel back cause that train left already.
Therfore while I was liking Julian more and more (I always liked anti-heroes and morally grey characters) and I saw myself getting more an more annoyed with Bridge and Isobel. Bridge because he has this hero-complex and honestly I dont like this hero-complex thing where the hero is perfect and all good and can do anything and never does anything wrong. That's how I felt with Bridge. You can't find any flaws on this guy (maybe is anger issue with his father but that issue is valid tbh). Bridge is the perfect son, he works two, sometimes three jobs to support his mom, he takes his twin place to save the company and his mom, he's doing a great job as the new CEO of the company, he's charming and nice and perfect. Arg. I know it sounds so stupid to get annoyed with someone just because they are 'good', but yeah that's me, I prefer people with flaws and imperfections.
With Isobel I had a different problem. As the story progressed, I didn't understand why she couldn't tell that it was Bridge and not Julian? I mean sure she did not know about a brother, but Bridge has way more muscles, he had tattoos, he was a complete different person? How can you not know as the fiancee? It was so unbelievable. I just didn't buy it. Besides that I liked Izzy.
In conclusion, Julian cheated. Izzy cheated and Bridge betrayed Julian in the worst way possible by stealing Izzy and taking over his life. I would say they are even. Even though I'm not one hundred percent behind the cheating, I can live with the way Rachel Van Dyken wrote the story. It was inevitable cause Bridge and Izzy didn't know if Julian would ever wake up from the coma and they were falling for each other, therefore they wouldn't wait forever. I'm sorry that my review sounds so negativ mainly but every book with 'cheating' that gets 3 stars from is a win :D
Besides that I really like RVD writing and I'm looking forward to 'Finding Him'! I'm probably the only one here who wants to protect Julian but he's my dark baby and I just want to protect him from his father!!!!
You can never lose when reading a RVD novel... never! She definitely didn’t hold back with this story. The blurb sucked me in right away, and from page one I was hooked.
In this book we get to see the diverse writing style that is RVD. She is not a one trick pony, sure her mafia is KICK ASS, but this was different. It had all the feels, all the angst, it was a perfect plot wrapped in witty dialogue and crafty twist and turns!
Following Bridge and Izzy’s story was heart stopping, because I knew the other shoe was bound to drop, but i just didn’t know HOW OR WHEN! It was a roller coaster ride. I was gripping my Ipad as was reading sitting at the edge of my seat.
Finding their HEA came a cost, but hey love is never easy. I like how RVD weaved this story that you really feel for all the characters. GUYS, that epilogue!!! Omg!!!! I love this book so much, and cannot wait for the second book. I am super excited to see where RVD will take it.
I have always been fascinated by twins, so when I read the blurb for Stealing Her, I had to read it. Bridge and Julien are identical twins that are born into a wealthy family. They are inseparable as kids, but when they’re parents divorce they are forced into separation. Several years go by before their paths cross again. Bridge has grown into a nice, respectful man. Julien has grown in to a privileged jerk. Isabel is Juliens fiancé. She’s ready to leave their awful relationship when Bridge takes his brothers place. But Bridge pretending to be Julien, makes her second guess leaving.
This book was really good. I liked all aspects of it and highly recommend it. I can’t wait to see what is next in the series.
