This is a first book for me by this author so I didn’t go in with any expectations (from previous writings). I was pleasantly surprised, the book starts out jumping right into the main characters and didn’t slow down one bit. It all takes place in California beaches, and you can just feel the warm sunshine and waves. The author does a great job of giving the main characters depth and understanding, I came to cheering both of them on. She also has a good set of supporting characters that help bring the story line to life.

I did start out disliking Amy's family (for the obvious reasons) but even in the end I was feeling better about them. Even though this is about Amy finding her life long career as a lifeguard, don't think this is a Bay Watch type of story. Amy and Sarah are well written and the storyline is about finding and following your dream no matter how much your family may be against is.

The only part I wasn't keen on was the scene during the party where Sarah's ex shows up, and her date goes after Amy. I felt Amy could have been a bit more stronger with the advances she was getting from others, but I know it was needed to put a bit of angst in the story, but I still think she should have made better choices since Sarah was her date.

All in all the book was a good read-The author does a wonderful job of really bringing out the essences of beach living, her writing really draws you into the atmosphere and characters.

I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, but would have written the same opinion if I had come across this book on my own.

To see my Amazon review, it will be under CC-Great read.

Amy comes from a well off car-dealership family, but her true passion lies in working as a lifeguard. Sarah, a teacher, sees Amy on the beach one day and the attraction is instantaneous. But Sarah's past relationships with wealthy, and controlling, women makes her wary of getting into another one. Is Any different? Will Sarah forget her reservations and give true love a real chance?

This was a nice light romance, a good summer read. The romance was cute, with fairly obvious drama and miscommunications to keep them apart for a little while. The characters were interesting but not super developed as I didn't get too invested in them or their relationship. The setting was summery and fun, and I liked the way the secondary characters really filled out the story and made for a cozy read. Overall I enjoyed it, but not likely to read again. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a nice light vacation read.

This one is what I call an easy read. It's on the shorter side of the books I normally read, because it focuses mainly on Sarah and Amy's relationship, and not much else. There's a bit of life guarding and Amy's family, but you don't see much of Sarah's life. Not her work, family, friends (besides Justin) and we don't even meet her two roommates that are brought up a few times.

If you enjoy books that have a lot of "miscommunication drama" then you'll like this one. It seems like Amy always thinks Sarah is meaning one thing, when it was the opposite. That's how they meet, and it's a continuing theme in the book.

My one big pet peeve in the book is Robin, the ex. She's too evil an ex, that it becomes one dimensional. It makes me wonder what our main character (Sarah) saw in her to begin with. I like a bit more layers, even if they are a class A jerk.

Overall, not a bad read but I won't be adding it to my "read again" list.

Summer fizzle.

Sarah is a teacher that has moved from Iowa to South Beach Coast to be near the ocean. While volunteering on beach cleanup day, she gets scolded by a hot lifeguard when her friend starts poking around at a dead sting ray. Amy is the lifeguard. She is chasing her dream after determining that following her family's desires of being a successful auto dealership owner is not satisfying her.

This was a fairly light romantic beach read. The story was just average for me. It could have been better had I not been distracted by a few things that bothered me. The overuse of "agate-colored" as an eye descriptor. Strange ways of saying things like "we aren't girlfriends." I know I am being picky but I am used to hearing "we aren't together." 'Girlfriends' as a state of relationship is kind of weird to me. Mundane dialogue and actions. Like describing exactly how they are making up sandwiches. I can't quite put my finger on it. But the writing seemed off to me.

The relationship was initially based on attraction, but I didn't feel like it ever elevated beyond that regardless of what the book tried to convey. Sarah was only thinking of Amy's tight body as she was watching her teach small children. Not a lot of substance.

Also, there were several editing issues. Usually Bella doesn't have an issue with that.

It is an OK read, but I'm sorry to say that I can't personally recommend.

This was the first book by this author I have read.

Amy is a Lifeguard and also the Owner/Manager of a Luxury Auto (Car) Dealership. Sarah is a Math Teacher at a Middle School.

This is a short and light read (shorter and lighter than I normally read). I was enjoying the book up to about 35% and then I lost interest for a time. The story line was OK. The main characters of Amy & Sarah meet at a Beach during an Earth Day Cleanup Event. Although there was a little chemistry between the two main characters; I felt that they were better of being friends instead of lovers. The pacing was also all wrong for me.

Overall, it was just an OK read for me. It did nothing for me.

Summer Desires by Emily King is the type of book that people might take with them on vacation. It is a fairly short and easy read with beautiful characters set in sunny South Beach, California.
The plot involves a lifeguard who also happens to come from a wealthy and prominent family meeting a young middle school teacher on the beach. After a rocky start, the romance builds between them over the summer vacation months. Amy, the lifeguard, also has to make some decisions about her employment that could cause problems between her and her family.

This is a very light, fluffy, and rather shallow read with little angst, clichéd Southern California styled characters and setting, and some okay sex scenes. The best I can say about this book is that it is a fluff piece that might keep you entertained for a little while.

This has been a book with a rather dullplot, in which it is not clear whether the protagonists like each other or not until well into the story and this stretch of doubt is a bit anoying, to tell the truth.

The reasons why they don't want to get involved in a serious relationship are a bit bland, in my opinion, since neither seems to have had many problems in their previous relationships. But this reluctance and many misunderstandings since they know each other lead one to think that there will be nothing serious between them. The truth is that the misunderstandings and lack of communication between them is in the whole book, until its end, and that is a bit frustrating at some point. Amy's family also didn't help much to make the book enjoyable, they are quite unpleasant.

Amy has been rather unfriendly to me, I don't understand her behavior in some situations, I didn't like it. And Sarah has been naive and weak in some places, but if it wasn't for her nothing would have happened, Amy wouldn't have done anything to get close to Sarah.

So in summary it has been a light romance with some, a bit forced and silly, drama situations. Just a passable read.

Straight forward summer romance with very little ups or downs. This was a short read, with a fairly smooth writing style that has some issues with the dialog. It's not all bad, but there were parts were the dialog felt choppy and unnatural. Besides that, there were some pretty great sex scenes, and the leads have good chemistry. There's not much to these characters, but they work and are good together.

If you're looking for an easy beach read, this is it. Is it good? No. But it gets the job done.

Reading the synopsis of Summer Desires by Emily King, I really thought this would be a light, fun beach read. I haven’t read King’s previous book, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed.

Amy Bergen owns an auto dealership, but she recently followed her dream and became a full-time lifeguard on a Californian beach. Sarah Wagner, who recently moved to the west coast, is a math teacher with an awful ex-girlfriend. The two meet during an Earth Day beach cleanup event. Despite their first shaky encounter, they can’t deny their attraction.

Honestly, and I feel awful saying this, there isn’t a lot I liked about this book. The writing didn’t work for me. It’s clunky, and most of the dialogue is awkward and doesn’t feel natural. It really took me out of the story. The characters lack depth, and even though there is chemistry between the two MCs, it’s as if they are only interested in each other for their looks. It’s a good thing it was a short read, or else I probably wouldn’t have finished it :(

Based on the description I thought I'd give Summer Desires a try for a laid back beach read. I found the general story to be good in some parts but fairly juvenile and jealously laden in others. The characters of Amy and Sarah had solid chemistry and their love scenes were varied and interesting.

I have never read a book by Emily King before, and I have to say I am now intrigued and wish to read many more of her books, I hope she continues to write. I thought the two main characters were great Sarah and Amy had good chemistry on the page, my only problem is that with two such feminine sounding names it was hard to distinguish them and tell them apart especially since when I read this the voices of the two main characters reads very similarly. That was probably the biggest issue for me in the book.

I thought the romance flowed well, it did not go too fast and seem like insta love and it wasn't too slow either. The action in the book was really good, but the angst wasn't that well thought out. If the only reason they couldn't be together was Amy's apparent wealth and Sarah made such a big deal about it in the beginning of the book, the author could have made that a stronger plot point in the book. As it was it was thrown in there and solved very quickly and they decided they could be together after all. So maker it stronger or leave it out and turn it into a romance with no clear barriers, or have the angst be the jealousy that Sarah was feeling when Amy was getting letters and underwear from women, that could have been flushed out more, I didn't understand why Sarah was so jealous and upset and the author never really set anything up so that we as the reader could see it and understand it right away.

Overall this was a very strongly written romance and I enjoyed it immensely I think if I could I would give it 3.5 stars instead of three.

Summer Desires is a good romance but I felt it could be better. The characters felt undeveloped. I think the storyline should have been a little more developed as well and it might not have seemed so awkward. Overall not a bad story, but I know this author has it in her to do better.

This is a short light read which has fairly interesting development of the relationship and good chemistry between the MCs but is bogged down by too much verbiage spent of food descriptions and the junior lifeguard programme.

Sarah Wagner is a maths teacher and Amy Bergen is a lifeguard. However, Amy also owns a luxury car dealership which she wants to get rid of. Having moved to Southern California from Iowa, Sarah was swept off her feet by one Robin, a successful real estate agent. Sarah acknowledges that she took a lot of shit from Robin because she was bedazzled with the latter’s wealth. A romantic, Sarah wants to find someone to be with – but the only person who interests her is Amy, who clams up so tight and so often that a relationship with her seems impossible. So, Sarah suggests and fling and that is what they get into.

Sarah’s recognition and acknowledgement of the reason she stayed with Amy and took her shit for longer than warranted quickly pushes her out of a bracket of superficiality that she’d otherwise have slipped into. In fact, it is quite difficult not to fall deeply in like with Sarah for everything she is. Amy on the other hand, though not bad, is quite irritating with her secretiveness of things that aren’t even secrets. Also, when the two finally move from fling to dating, Amy’s feeling seem rather sane and muted, bringing down the intensity that Sarah’s passion brings into the relationship by quite a few notches.

This is a good read for an idle afternoon or while travelling.

I was really hoping more from this one after reading the blurb about it. Who doesn't want to read a book about a hot lifeguard and a summer romance? Well I admit I was disappointed. I read Summer Desires pretty quickly, but it lacked a few things. The story/romance felt segmented or even awkward. There wasn't alot of detail given on either character and the two MCs didn't really get to know each other even after deciding to pursue something other than a fling. Though I overall like both MCs, I did find that Sarah was a little to jealous for the storyline. I just wish the story was developed more and that a real connection was made between the two MCs.

I will rate it a 2.75,

Very delicate to review. Some parts are very good and some are really not. I had to make myself keep reading after a while (it’s a rather short book) but then there was real chemistry between the characters in their first sex scene, which was pretty well-written, so it made me curious to see where it would go from there.

Sarah is a math teacher with a very rich and superficial ex. Amy comes from a pretty well-off family of car dealers. She’s good at selling cars but her dream has always been to be a lifeguard and she has decided to act on that dream, much to her family’s disappointment. When she first meets Sarah, Amy is kinda rude to her but she’s so hot Sarah wants to try again. The second time is not much better.

I couldn’t relate to the characters for various reasons, the main one being that they have both suffered from being judged on their looks yet all they care about is the other’s body. Also, a couple of misunderstandings can be fun but too many gets annoying.

There were other problems too, such as too many details at times (Amy’s explanation of what the junior lifeguard program was felt like reading a press release, for example), and many instances of more telling than showing.

I hate it when I don’t like a book, I know how much work and love most authors put into their writing, and publishers too, but I can’t recommend this one when there are so many good novels out there.

This was a good read.

Amy comes from a well off family she own a auto dealership but that isn't her dream one day she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a Lifegaurd and eventually be an instructor.

Sarah is a math teacher and lives with two roommates that we really didn't get to know because we heard of them she has a best friend name Justin.

When Amy and Sarah meet it doesn't go so great but eventually they get to talking and decide to have a fling when Sarah want to know more about Amy she become secretives but it's only because they run into Sarah ex Robin who is realtor and also rich and she hurt Sarah badly and when Sarah made a comment about never getting involve with another rich woman Amy close up because she had some bad experience to.

It was a cute romance it had some drama with Amy family not really accepting her job but eventually came around overall good read I enjoy it.
