This was such a sweet read and definitely the first of many I will be reading by this author. I found all the characters relatable in their own way. The romance aspect was written so well.
At this point it's not really a shock that I loved it. Kate McGarry is one of the few authors I know I'll love everything by.
I love a good ghost/supernatural story.
I had such a good time with this book! It has been years since I last picked up Katie McGarry's work but I knew that I had to give this book a try. Once I picked this book up, I couldn't stop reading and ended up spending most of the day cuddled under a throw with this book in my hand. I can't think of a better way to spend the day. This was one of those books that you just don't want to put down. I am really glad that I decided to give it a try.
Oh my, so many feels. This book was so much more emotional than I had anticipated. It was sweet and adorable at times, heartbreaking and intense at others. Though this book isn’t for everyone, I personally wouldn’t have changed a thing.
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
It took me awhile to read this. Wow whstrver for??? I LOVED this book from start to end. A girl wiyh a brain tumor that can see ghosts, lives in a housd thats haunted, and a cute boy willing to overlook her differences to get to know her? Sign me up! I got major "A Walk to Remember" vibes from this book and Iwas here for all of it!,
Overall, I enjoyed this one, just not as much as I enjoyed Kaite's other works. I think this might be due to my falling out of love with the YA contemporary genre as a whole, and not just this book.
First of all, look at that cover! Echoes Between Us has an absolutely gorgeous cover, which drew me in along with the title. The synopsis, mostly that Veronica can see her mother's ghost (among others), super intrigued me and ensured I'd want to read Veronica and Sawyer's story.
Veronica has AWFUL migraines that can become debilitating without much warning. The good news is that her dad is amazing and warm and supportive. You don't get that too often in YA. Veronica also has close friends who seem like they'd be cool to know and were also supportive. I adored them.
Sawyer is an adrenaline junkie and engages in dangerous behavior (the kind that could get him killed), which was an interesting mix with Veronica's severe issues with migraines and the belief she has nothing to live for. A dangerous combination in some ways.
Veronica is a good person yet also flawed, and I absolutely loved her no matter what. Plus I know what it's like to feel that way. Each and every character was natural and real; McGarry has done a fantastic job of breathing life into them.
I loved the paranormal elements. This story hit me like a punch to the gut--a story that resonated with me loudly and shattered my heart. I lost my mom to cancer when I was a teen, and I'd give anything to see her again.
Echoes Between Us is a novel I will always remember and will definitely be reading more than once. Books like this don't come along everyday! There are scenes that I can picture clearly even months later. I'm stoked to read Only a Breath Apart because it has some of the same characters from this book. I hope you guys love it as much as I do.
I can see myself in this main character, not that I see ghosts, but that I suffer from debilitating migraines.
Two damaged people are drawn together and they are the only ones who can save each other.
One of my favorite things about Katie McGarry’s books is how she makes readers care about the characters whole-heartedly. It’s easy to get caught up in their lives, care about their struggles, and what happens to them. And this is what happened with Veronica and Sawyer in ECHOES BETWEEN US. They both are dealing with serious, heartbreaking things.
The ghost hunting, hauntings, and the urban legends made it eerie and thrilling. There is this one scene in a graveyard and the moments leading up to it that gave me some awesomely creepy chills.
I want to know more about Glory. She definitely needs her story told. Fingers crossed, some day.
ECHOES BETWEEN US brought out all the emotions as the characters dealt with love and death, fear and grief. It is a love story and a story about friendship, family, and letting people be there for you when you need them the most.
I loved it. Just like I knew I would.
I've read Katie McGarry's work before and have loved it, so I was very excited to pick this book up. This is one of those stories that wants to slowly break your heart as you fall in love with the characters. Veronica and Sawyer were great characters to get to know and I was enthralled in the story the whole time. I also love a good paranormal story, so the ghosts added the perfect chilling element to the plot.

At this time, I'm no longer interested in this title. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book and I apologize for the inconvenience.
4.5 stars
I’m just going to start this off by saying I love Katie’s writing. I haven’t found. One book by her that I didn’t like like!
Echoes Between Us was beautiful. This novel was about life, death, friendship and family. There were parts of this book that brought tears to my eyes and brought out many emotions.
This book is YA, but I’m definitely a bit older than that genre and I loved it. The characters were so likable and I really enjoyed reading about Veronica & Sawyer. I would highly recommend it to anyone who already loves Katie’s writing writing and also anyone who’s never picked up a book by her before!
I love the premise of this book, however, it was one that I was not able to continue reading. Perhaps it just wasn't what I was searching for.
I have yet to read this one. I tried a few months ago and wasn't able to get into it. I hope that I can soon. Katie McGarry is one of my favourite authors and I love reading her books, but I think I need to be in the mood for this one. Thank you and I hope to read it soon.
Another favorite book from Katie McGarry!! This book involves Veronica who is a side character in Only a Breath Apart and Sawyer her partner on a senior project. I loved the collaboration of a real journal added in throughout to add to this fictional storyline. The different relationships that are explored in this book and the paranormal aspect as well.
This was another great story by Katie McGarry! I loved these characters so much! The side characters were amazing as well! I can’t wait to read more books by this author.
Here's the thing. I love Katie McGarry. She is one of my auto-buy authors, and I've read every one of her previous books. They are like comfort food to me. Everyone needs authors like that in their life. But for some reason, I jut could not get into this book. I don't know what happened, but didn't fall in love with the characters as I usually do, and I just couldn't make myself finish this. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why, and I suspect the ghost aspect was too much for me to swallow. Although I do love fantasy and speculative titles, I think putting that into a book by an author who is so real life and down to earth, that it didn't work for me. I may try this again in the future, but I took so long to come and review this, because I've felt so sad for not being able to get through the book.
I really enjoyed the book as always do with this author but it was not my favorite from them. I cannot wait to read more from this author. I liked the characters but not so much the plot.
This felt so much like her old works (like Crash Into You). Two very different characters that fall for each other paired with an original theme…. A recipe for a Nikki book. And this one was definitely that. I fell for McGarry’s words all over again.
Veronica sees ghosts, one of them being her mother. And then there’s Sawyer, the handsome and popualr boy that everyone likes. But he has an addiction that he won’t tell anyone about. When the two meet, they have to use their secrets to work together.
I’ve been a fan of Katie McGarry since Pushing the Limits. One thing I’ve always loved about her books is the raw emotion that’s always in them. And this one was no different. I bit my nails to the quick from worrying about the characters in this. And on other pages I laughed or “Awwww” because of Sophie. This book took a toll on my emotions, but all good books will do that for you.
I LOVE books that have surprises. And this one had a few. I ended up listening to the audio of this one because I didn’t have to wait for it. And as soon as I started listening, I was glad I went that route. It was narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Brittany Pressley. I knew then that it would be a great listen. Another surprise was the fact that this is a companion to Only a Breath Apart. I liked that one okay, but it seemed more weird to me than anything. This was more intense and emotional and believable.
Katie McGarry is still one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. She always has great ideas along with awesome characters. And this one took me back to her first few novels. Definitely reminded me of all the things I love about her and her stories.
