In an attempt to keep this review spoiler free, I'll be vague on the plot, but we pick up right where we left off in TGW. The cast is dealing with the loss from the previous book, along with the bombshell dropped at the end, and Severin has decided to get the gang together for one more heist, the one that will give him everything he thinks his heart desires. The main thread of the book focuses on Severin and his internal turmoil, while also furthering one of the romance plots that was set up in the end of book one. I'll be honest, my ship didn't take off, but that's ok. What matters is that we get to see one of the main characters delve into full on villain mode, which I am ALWAYS here for.
If you enjoyed The Gilded Wolves, I can't imagine you not taking a shine to The Silvered Serpents as well, and I think I speak for a few other people when I say that we'll be twiddling our thumbs wondering how to pass the time until book 3 is published. I highly recommend this series to fans of Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows, as it gives you a new setting with some of the same feels.
*Many thanks to the publisher for providing my review copy.
This book could not grab me after several tries so I will not be giving feedback at this time. Others have loved this so I may try again in the future.
I got about 50 pages in and it just didn't grab me, so I DNF'd it. I can see a market for it, but unfortunately it is not one for me.
To be honest, I hadn’t planned on picking this book up. I initially DNFed The Gilded Wolves but later went back and finished it, but it was a struggle to get through. I seem to either absolutely adore Chokshi’s books or they just don’t work for me at all. When it came to this sequel, I decided to give it a try, one last chance for the series. Unfortunately it just didn’t deliver what I needed to keep going. The one aspect that held my attention the longest in the first book was the magic system which I hoped to see explored deeper in The Silvered Serpents. Instead, we don’t get nearly enough of it and are instead left with a plot that plods along at a snail’s pace. I never felt the tension, the suspense, the need to keep turning the page. It didn’t feel like this book really developed anything from the first one and hit in that middle-book-syndrome space. I left it as DNF a little over halfway through and will likely not give this series another try.
Really enjoyed it, perfect sequel! I read it in one sitting, and the ending made me so shocked and left me with more questions.
Hey there, fellow book lovers! 📚 Let me gush about "The Silvered Serpents" by Roshani Chokshi. I'm giving it a sparkling 4 out of 5 stars, and let me tell you why it captivated me:
First things first, Roshani Chokshi's writing is pure magic. 🌟 Her lyrical prose pulled me into a lush and enchanting world, and I found myself savoring every beautifully crafted sentence.
The character development in this book was on point! Each member of the crew brought their unique strengths and vulnerabilities to the table, and it was fascinating to witness their growth throughout the story. They felt like real individuals with their flaws and complexities, and I couldn't help but root for them on their perilous journey.
The world-building in "The Silvered Serpents" was breathtaking. 🏰🌺 Roshani Chokshi's vivid descriptions painted a rich tapestry of magical settings, from ancient ruins to opulent palaces. The mix of mythology and mystery added an extra layer of intrigue to the already engaging plot.
Speaking of the plot, it was an epic rollercoaster of emotions and unexpected twists. 🎢 From heart-stopping action scenes to poignant moments of introspection, the pacing kept me hooked from start to finish. The heist elements and the hunt for mythical treasures were brilliantly executed, leaving me on the edge of my seat.
The themes of friendship, sacrifice, and betrayal wove seamlessly throughout the narrative, tugging at my heartstrings. I was emotionally invested in the characters' journeys, and their dynamics kept me invested in every page-turning moment.
Now, I'll admit, there were a few instances where the story felt a tad slow, but that was quickly forgotten in the grand scheme of things.
In conclusion, "The Silvered Serpents" is a mesmerizing tale that blends adventure, magic, and mythology flawlessly. If you're a fan of lush storytelling and intricate character-driven plots, this book is an absolute gem. 🐍💎 Prepare to be enchanted!
Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with an eARC of The Silver Serpents by Roshani Chokshi! I remember being so nervous to pick up my first Roshani Chokshi book as I have heard nothing but amazing things about her writing. The Gilded Wolves series is one of those that I cannot put down. The Silvered Serpents was really well-written and I cannot wait to continue with the series - especially after the cliffhanger this book left me with.
What a solid sequel to the Gilded Wolves!!
This is how sequels should be done to the first. The characters were more developed and more lovable than first.
Such huge themes here, and with so many threads you can only do a few of them really well. This second book has everything you need to continue: mystery, adventure, fast-moving plots. And the ending? Might as well make sure you have book 3 when you pick this one up!
I find that this series was everything I hoped Six of Crows would be. I love this world and the characters so much and it’s a wonderful read.
This was a solid sequel that built upon the intricacies, dynamics, and twists of THE GILDED WOLVES. Chokshi doesn't pull any punches and that ending had me gasping for the final book in the trilogy. Fast-paced, magical, and highly recommended!
This book progressed at a much slower pace compared to the first book. I also didn't find the story line quite as gripping although it was a faithful continuation of where we were left off. I think the character development was the part that was vaguely unsettling as they felt so different from the first book, but not in a way that was a positive progression, but a progression that I can see is important to the storyline. I look forward to see how the third book wraps up the story and brings the character progression back into the positive light.
"The Silvered Serpents" by Roshani Chokshi is the sequel to "The Gilded Wolves," and as a casual fan of Book One, I was curious to see where the story would go next. Similar to the first book, I had some mixed feelings about this one, and I'm wondering if it's just that I prefer plot-driven fantasies.
Chokshi's writing continues to be beautiful and immersive, creating a stunning world filled with magic and puzzles. The focus on the emotional struggles and relationships among the characters is a highlight, as they grapple with love, loss, and the dangerous combination of pain and power.
However, while the book is character-driven, the plot is not as complex as its predecessor, and some readers may find it less engaging. Still, "The Silvered Serpents" is a solid addition to the series and fans of the first book will likely enjoy revisiting these characters and their adventures.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this advanced reader's copy and the opportunity to read this early. Review has been posted on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
I really enjoyed this book. There was the right amount of intrigue and mystery whilst the pace was quick and exciting. It’s a great book for those who enjoy working out the plot in advance and then being surprised
THIS BOOK IS A MASTERPIECE!
I absolutely loved the story and the characters. The whole universe is so magical and enchanting that I wanted to read it in one go!
If I thought The Gilded Wolves was a real treat, then The Silvered Serpents hit it out of the ball park!
Quick bullet review:
1) Absolutely loved the growth of each and every character. Each of them are deeply traumatized by the events of the previous book, and yet they all have started on their journey of healing, as they must do. Everyone except Severin.
2) I was quite pissed at Severin in this book. He went down a dark, downward spiral. While he had always been power-hungry and greedy in the first book, his traumas brought out his ugliest side in this book. I loved how Chokshi pretty much made him mirror the same greed and madness and arrogance that he had despised in his enemies.
3) The only character who disappointed me was Laila. She had so much potential in the first book, but here, she has been reduced to play mom to the group and strangely hypersexualized by the author, which completely went against her efforts into showing Laila as more than a consort.
4) The world building. Chokshi never fails to amaze.
5) The lore. I cannot imagine the amount of research Chokshi had to do, but we dived deeper into the lore and I was all for it.

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I really enjoyed this but I think the first book is still my favorite. The atmosphere and world building were really magical. This author is so gifted at setting the scene in such a luscious and captivating way you feel like you're there with them. Along those lines, the characters are all written so well and you fall in love with them and empathize with them immediately. The story itself was also developed really well with a pacing that kept me engaged the entire time.

Severin and his friends are on the search for the Sleeping Castle and the secrets it holds. When they discover its location and go inside, they are amazed and horrified at what they find. There are statutes of the nine muses but with severed hands. What does this mean and who is behind all of the secrecy?
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view from different perspectives. Since this was the second book in the series, I missed out on some of the background on the characters and their previous adventure with Fallen House. If you like young adult sci fi and fantasy books, you may enjoy this book. I do recommend reading the first book in the series first, so you have the full knowledge of the characters.
