I've tried so many times to get back into this world but this just really isn't working for me no matter how many times I tried. I found the first book to be a bit confusing until the very end but I hoped that the sequel would work better for me and unfortunately it was just the same reading experience all over again. Maybe at some point I'll finish this series but I'm not necessarily running to pick up the next book when it comes out.
Ruthless Gods didn't quite hit the nail on the head for me. I know it was difficult for me to get into Wicked Saints until the very end, and I had somewhat of the same feels for the sequel. I got really interested at the end, but not enough for me to continue the series unfortunately.
What a great follow up to Wicked Saints! This book was everything and more. I couldn’t put it down for one second. It was so bloody good!
Talk about a book to get your mind off of things. This is the book to do it!
Ms. Duncan is a genius!
The first book was so weird that I was lost when I finished. Then I tried to start this one, and ...NO. It was just too much.
I also tried reading this book multiple times. I read that first chapter at least three times, but I couldn't get into it. It just wasn't for me. That's why I waited so long to write a review. I hate to be negative. about someone's hard work.
Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. While I did enjoy the first one immensely, this one was a DNF for me
*Thanks to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the complimentary copy for my honest review*
I won't lie, the first book in this series confused me with how much it jumped around and the characters all bled into each other in a way. Unfortunately the second book was the same for me. While I do love the characters, this book was just too much for me. I didn't like the romance and I feel like a lot of things were still left unanswered. I will probably still read the third book in hopes that it ties some things up for me.
omg! Is all i can say about this book.
It took me a while to read but I loved this so much more than the first book.
I cannot get over the ending, although predictable, it was still shocking.
The character development was frickin amazing.
I wished I loved this book more than I did, but unfortunately the story dragged a little bit too much in the beginning for me to fully enjoy. I think the world u=building was lovely, but pacing wise, left things to be desired.
A little morbid and dark for the age range, but deliciously enjoyable! I'm looking forward to finishing the series!
I'm so confused at my feelings for this book. A lot of things happened, and I had a hard time keeping up with it. The author definitely does a good job at keeping people guessing, and putting just enough plot twists in to make it exciting and keep you hooked from start to finish
Will probably pick up the next one, just so I can see how things play out
I love how creepy and dark and fantastic this series is. Wicked Saints was one of my most anticpated reads, and Ruthless Gods man. Just as good
Damn, I love this series! Duncan is such a brilliantly dark writer in the best way possible. This grisly tale is not for the faint of heart, but so worth the read if you (like me) adore a wickedly well-developed story. I cannot wait for the third book in the series.
I could not get into this which is so disappointing because I had really high hopes for it but I totally understand the hype even if it wasn’t for me
Ruthless Gods is phenomenal! Beautifully written and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I love these characters and I loved being able to spend time with them again throughout Ruthless Gods. I honestly didn't want this book to end. I am obsessed with this trio of characters!
In an attempt to catch up with the reviews I fell behind on in 2020 I am only leaving star ratings. For the books that I didn't feel incredibly passionate about.
I liked this one better than the first one. There's still a bit of a disconnect between the page and the reader. Too much telling, but I like the story and want to see how it ends.
We got more prices of the puzzle here but it was drowned out through the very wordy agonizing, lengthy passages. There was a lot of inner dialogue that was confusing and abrupt changes. This book could have been cut down and been more impactful to the story. However, as a shadow and bone series lover I saw plenty of similarities that made my Leigh bardugo loving heart pitter patter. This is definitely edgier and more horrific especially with a giant vulture creature being the main love interest. I am interested in seeing how it all wraps up but I may look for a synopsis of the third book
This book was so darkly wicked with highlights of gothic horror and romantic. The second book in the Something Dark and Holy series was a little slower paced than the first book, which I think was a good choice because of the narration swaps that were happening throughout the story. I'm excited to get my hands on the third and binge read all of them. I think that will be the best way to read these books to soak up all of their dark goodness.
I want to thank Netgalley and ... for an advanced copy of this book.
First off let me state that this is the second installment to the "Something Dark and Holy: Trilogy. The first book I read three times. Once because I heard a great deal about it. The second time because I needed clarification on some key points and the last time in preparation for Ruthless Gods. I find that Ruthless Gods was a bit more difficult to read, even with the refresher of Wicked Saints fresh in my mind. I am unsure if it is the way it is written but it reads weird.
I'm not completely put off by the book or the series. I have taken the time to read Ruthless Gods twice so far, so there is still a chance for me to grasp what the author is trying to portray.
This world is really brutal. I enjoyed that the magic and even the landscape is even out to get them. I really enjoy this world.
