I will start off saying I did not read any of the other books in this series so I am not sure of the background of these characters. I will say I was not a fan of this book is was so completely predictable and I found the main characters annoying and whinny. I can honestly say the few characters I did like was Mia, Harry, and Walter. Mia was this spitfire mama who stood up for all those she loved and cared for. Walter was the patriarch of the family and he's fighting cancer but he also played a huge roll in this book. This book did have some good moments in it. Also there is sex and a good fair amount of cussing in this book so this may not be suitable for all.
I really enjoyed Cody and Lexi's story. I love Christmas stories and second chance romance so this was great! This is a true second chance romance after the first ended abruptly 10 years earlier when Cody left town without even saying goodbye. Despite that I really like both characters and we do get to know them and why choices were made. so it is easy to gain understanding into the characters. I like the rest of the supporting characters too. This is a sweet well written read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Do you love second chance romances? If you do, this is one for you. Cody left the ranch after high school, went to Harvard, and built a life away from home because of demons he's kept hidden behind a gruff exterior. When he does come back, it's because it looks like it might be his last opportunity to spend time with his father. Turns out, his father's nurse is Lexi, his high school sweetheart who is, as one might expect, annoyed with him for taking off and not coming back. She's built a life for herself- she's the single mom of Harry- but she's going through some stuff too with her own mom. Sparks don't fly right away. They circle each other (even as their families egg things on a bit) and well, you know what's gonna happen! This might be the third in the series but because the stories are more linked than sequential, you'll be fine with it as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A merry read.
Cody Ford is a Wall Street honcho with humble Texas roots. This holiday season, he’d be content to just stay in New York and not face his family—and dodge their questions about when and with whom he plans to settle down. But his father isn’t getting any younger, and Cody doesn’t want to miss any last chances to see him and the rest of the folks back on the ranch. The last person Cody was expecting to see was his one-time girlfriend, Lexi Murphy, who’s been working as his dad’s new live-in nurse. Single mum Lexi still holds a grudge against Cody
This is the third book in the series & I think it could be read on its own. A touching second chance love story. I loved Lexi a strong independent woman, I liked Cody but didn’t love him as I found him a little too arrogant, however I did love Walter & especially Harry who was the star of the book for me.. A heart warming story that held my interest all the way through & a welcome addition to the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Can Lexi forgive Cody?
Businessman Cody Ford was doing his annual visit to his family in Texas when he met Alexandra Murphy the nurse who was taking care of his dad, Walter Ford while he was dying of cancer. Cody didn’t recognized his former high school girlfriend, Lexi Murphy, that he abandoned when he left for college without even bothering to say goodbye. Lexi always remembered Cody but she had moved on with her life while raising her son Harry as a single mother after her divorce. Cody and Lexi have never dealt with ending of the relationship but can Lexi forgive Cody for leaving her without even a letter?
How did I miss the start of this series? I tend to be picky about books that are set on ranches for various reasons but Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas is really good, now I want to read more books by Soraya Lane adding to my list of books to read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another emotional & heart wrenching story of the Ford family in this wonderfully enjoyable series. I love this series with the family pretty much split down the middle 1 half Ranch, 1 half Business all running from the past, but slowly they seem to all be returning to the Ranch. There’s major chemistry between Lexi & Cody even though it’s been at least a decade since they last saw each other & the fireworks aren’t just from the sexual tension between them. Christmas has brought everyone home,& because of the failing health of their father this might be their last Christmas with him & Lexi is his father’s nurse living on the ranch with her young son. The pain of the past is all around & questions needing answers a plenty. Watching the heartbreaking choices Cody makes & the reactions from Lexi & his family was sad. Seeing Cody love Lexi & Harry was swoon worthy but also heartbreaking because he didn’t want to. Watching his family fight for him & how he cared for his father was wonderful. This story brought out all the emotions as does every story I’ve read by author Soraya Lane so far. I enjoyed reading this book & look forward to reading the next book. Definitely recommend.
A nice little HEA book. I didn't really like Cody that much - he was a bit of an idiot, but then you can't like everyone I suppose. I was glad that everything ended well for everyone involved, but it was a tad laboured at times. All in all, a nice read.
I enjoyed the storyline intent. A 2nd chance romance that needed a 3rd chance, however, kind of stretched it for me. The setting sounded beautiful around River Ranch. I'm not sure on the authenticity of the continuing snow and cold it described at Christmas, it did fit the scene.
Cody came home from NYC to a huge surprise. How he handled seeing his Xgirlfriend was awful, and adding insult to injury, Lexi goes to bed with him, even though she supposedly hates him. There are other things at play here, which also come front and center, not endearing me to Cody, or Lexi, for that matter.
I just couldn't get on board with this. I read the whole book, thinking it would get better, and it did have its moments. I loved the parts with Mr. Ford, who called hogwash if necessary, was pretty funny, and definitely in touch with reality. Lexi's little boy, Harry, and Mia's girls added some levity and a serious scare as well which added a lot of emotions.
The seriousness of PTSD was touched on at the end. I didn't feel either, that it redeemed Cody, but rather a convenient label slapped on his immature way of running away wbw and every year since, until now
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Once Upon A Cowboy Christmas

*Review* 🌟🌟🌟
Once Upon A Cowboy Christmas is a charming holiday read, and I enjoyed most of the story. Cody and Lexi were young sweethearts until he up and ran away. Now, he's back because his father has cancer. Ironically, Lexi is the father's nurse. There are so many questions and hurt from the past, and Lexi must decide if she can forgive Cody for his terrible behavior. I'm not sure he deserves forgiveness, not completely at least. The reasoning behind his actions and their consequences for everyone else are glossed over much too easily and kind of just dismissed. I don't agree with this part of the story. It's sweet and delightful, but it's also too unrealistic for me.
I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.
I love a good second chance romance book. I loved Alexandria/Lexie. She is a pull yourself up by your boot straps and never let them see you cry. Her plate is full. Raising her adorable son Harry, taking care of her mother and being a live in nurse. The client is the father of her first true love. Cody Ford is back in town for Christmas. His father is ill and he wants his family together. Sparks are flying but the hurt is still there. Can she let go of the past and the hurt till the possibilities? Can Cody admit to his reasons for running? Can he find the courage to find answers for the past to let him have the future they deserve?
Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas (River Ranch, #3) by Soraya M. Lane .. This is the 3rd book in the series but the first I have read. Thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this book. This is a second chance romance ... Cody Ford ( left home and never looked back ..has fear of loss issues) Lexi Murphy ( the girl he left behind and now his father's nurse) This story has angst, laughter, happy and sad tears..I cried a few..., wonderful family, a sweet little boy and lots of steam all getting us to a HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Entertaining Great world building Tear-jerker Happily Ever After Page-turner Romantic Funny Easy-to-read Steamy Wonderful characters
Cody Ford up and left home when he graduated. He left his family, his sick mother and the girl he loved, Lexi Murphy. He was just running away from the reality of his mother's illness. He has made occasional trips home but each time he was most anxious to return to his life in New York. This year when he returns for his Christmas visit he is facing the fact that his father has cancer. To Cody's great surprise Lexi is Cody's dad's full-time nurse now. Will Cody step up and stop running now? Time will tell. I enjoyed getting to know Lexi and Cody. They just seemed to beperfect for each other making the struggle for their HEA well worth it.
Cody and Lexi were teen sweethearts. Cody is very afraid of relationships and what heartbreak they can bring. But a trip home for Christmas finds Cody rethinking about his life and what he’s missed.
Harry is just adorable and adds to the story so much. I loved Walters heart!
This is my first time reading this author so I haven't read any other books in this series and this read fine as a stand alone. Second chance reads are my favorite and Lexi and Cody's story is good. Lexi certainly hung on to the pain of Cody's leaving feeling that he left her when, in fact, he was leaving so he didn't have to watch his mother dying. Lexi is now the nurse for Cody's ailing father when they see each other again. She's also the mother of a young son. Cody never thought he was interested in being a husband or parent but Lexi changes that for him.
Overall I enjoyed this book. I really liked the heroine Lexi, and her grit and loyalty was well explained. Cody, to be honest, was a tosser & very immature for most of the book but thankfully pulled his head out of you know where towards the end. Not a life changing book, but an enjoyable read nonetheless.
I received a free digital copy from NetGalley but the opinions expressed are my own.
Four Second Chance Stars.
I enjoyed this read. This was my first book by this author.
Christmastime at the Fords Ranch is entertaining say the least.
Cody Ford would rather stay in New York than head to the family ranch but with his fathers health, he decides to go home for Christmas. What he wasn’t expecting was to run into his ex girlfriend, Lexi Murphy. She is his dads nurse. And he definitely wasn’t expecting to feel all the emotions of being home, feeling lonely, feeling guilty and feeling sad and scared. Cody tried to keep the walls up but this time around it’s not as easy to end.
We get a good wholesome story, with entertaining characters and a storyline that keeps your attention the entire time.
A feel good romance with deep emotions.
*I was given a free advanced copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.*
Cody Ford left his family ranch and never looked back. He is now a wall street businessman and loves the city life. Cody comes home for Christmas and his dad has cancer and probably not a lot of time left. Cody had left home when his mom had been diagnosed with cancer and he couldn't bear to see her be sick and die. When he gets to the ranch he runs into an old flame, who happens to be his dad's nurse. He had broken her heart when he had upped and left many years ago without even saying goodbye. Now she is a single mom and she is still in love with him but doesn't trust him and he doesn't want to have a relationship because he is married to his job.
Watching Cody with his brother, sisters and dad makes you want to slap him sometimes and you know he has feelings for Lexi but is fighting them as he has his job and wants to stay in the city.
I enjoyed how Cody would do things for his dad to get him moving and motivated and to enjoy things while he still can.
I received this from St. Martin's and NetGalley for review.
I really enjoyed this story. It took the couple 15 years, but they finally got their happily ever after. Cody ran away when his mom was fighting and dying of cancer and when he did, he also left (and forgot) about the girl he loved. 15 yrs later he comes home for Christmas and finds her as his dad's nurse. And he doesn’t recognize her at first! The scene was great, watching as his dad spills the beans right in front of both of them as to who she is. She doesn't hold any punches either about how she feels about him now. Lexi hasn’t forgotten Cody, and she hasn’t forgiven him either. Their story was sweet, passionate, had the emotional tension that I love in a story, and the ending, was perfect. Loved it and want more from the other siblings who haven't found their true loves yet.
I enjoyed returning to the River Ranch series in Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas. I was glad finding out Cody & Lexi's story. They definitely had their ups and downs and it was entertaining to go along for the ride. I am looking forward to the 4th novel in the series coming out next year.
