Little boy lost is the third DCI Anna Tate novels and is as thrilling and gripping as its predecessors. Anna is on compassionate leave having finally been reunited with her daiughter Chloe, who’d been abducted by her ex-husband 10 years ago. London is in the grip of horrific riots and a body of a young boy has been found in the basement of a burnt out building. The police suspect it might be Jacob Rossi, he had been missing since the previous Monday, son of a popular tv presenter Mark Rossi he’d been taken on his way home from school. So far there had been no contact from the kidnappers and no clear suspects. Anna is joined by DI Joe Benning who lead the hunt for the little boy and requested permission to find the perpetrators. As the riots continue Anna begins her investigation unaware that Chloe is not safely at home with her partner Tom.
This third novel in the series is a wonderful next stage of DCI Tate’s story and I cannot wait to read the next instalment. Beautifully written and an emotional roller coaster, a book not to be missed.
A great, thrilling read, which will keep you entertained throughout. A good one sitting read, get the nibbles ready, close the door, and read!
What a great addition to the Anna Tate series. Full of drama and tension but with a really satisfying ending. Thanks for the opportunity to read
I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another heart-stoppingly gripping read from this author!
Can't wait for the next!
This was a gripping tale that had me hooked from the outset.
This was my 1st introduction to DCI Anna Tate and already I have sourced the other books in the series.
Already looking forward to the next instalment.
4.5 stars
Really enjoyed this book. Very gripping and full of tension. Looking forward to reading more from the author!
This is the third book in the series but they can be read in any order
This is a great gripping read. A complete page turner.
It is filled with great characters and well written
Fabulous plot which I could not put down. Brilliant characters, and twists and turns. Highly recommend to other fans of this genre!!
Sorry for the delayed review. I didn't realise this was part of a series. I enjoyed the book but was a bit lost at times as I hadn't read some of the others - hence the 3 stars
This is the third book by J.P.Cater to feature DCI Anna Tate. Anna is currently off work due to being reunited with her abducted daughter only to be recalled once the streets of London become filled with unrest and looting and a young boys body is found chained to the walls of a derelict pub. His father has a high social media presence and the only possible leads they have to the death of Jacob are the number of hate messages that he has been receiving. Could one of these people be responsible for his son's death?
As Anna sets to work to find the killer, she leaves her daughter in the care of her boyfriend Tom, warning him that the names and addresses of police officers have been leaked to the gangs that are taking to the streets. While trying to get Chloe to safety, Tom is attacked by a group of youths and Chloe is left to fend for herself on the streets. It's not a safe place to be for an adult let alone a 12 year old girl who has spent the majority of her life living abroad. Chloe is totally alone and at the mercy of anyone who wants to take advantage.
The book has two clear narratives - that of what happens to Chloe as she desperately tries to find her mum, and secondly, of who is responsible for the death of Jacob Rossi. The two stories merge well together and the story concludes with a twist I didn't see coming. Not only is this a crime story though, it is a novel built around relationships which J.P.Carter tackles well. I'm excited to see what is coming up for Anna Tate in his next book.
I thought this book was fantastic, first by this author and it blew me away! Well written and fast paced with a killer twist, what more could you want in a book? Off to find more from them as I’m hooked!!!
*thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK and J.P Carter for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
3 stars.
While this was well written and enjoyable, I found it to be not as gripping as the first two books in this series about Detective Anna Tate. I still enjoyed it but I did find my mind wandering here and there throughout it. I know all series have ups and downs so I can't expect every book to be amazing.
I think this book will be better appreciated by Americans as it is very heavy on the violent riots that take place over there. And while I can appreciate how bad they were, I still haven't experienced it for myself so I can't feel it the same way as those who have suffered through them.
There is also the storyline about a missing kid and what happened to him. I can't quite figure out what about it that lacked my interest but I do know that when there was still about 30% left of the story, I already had a good guy feeling who the predator was and I turned out to be correct. Maybe the fact I didn't connect so well with this was because it had no shock value. At least for me anyway.
I am still definitely interested in reading the next one as I really do like Anna Tate.
Little Boy Lost J.P Carter
This is book three in the series, I have read all three books in recent weeks and enjoyed each one, with book 3 being my favourite.
I really like Anna Tate and enjoyed following her story. Each book picks up pretty much where the last one left off. Books one and two ended with a real cliff hanger that drew me back into the rest of the series.
This book is probably the most action packed, and the storyline had me hooked all the way through. I would recommend reading the 3 books to fully enjoy the story of Anna.
This book was brilliant a highly addictive read that had me hooked from the start . Another masterpiece by J.P. Carter
This book is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone like I have done. It is a suspenseful, terrifying story about a little boy who was kidnapped and murdered during riots in London. Through twists and turns this book keeps you involved until the very end.
Thank you NetGalley, J.P. Carter and Avon Books UK (a division of Harper Collins Publishing) for this edition and hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

‘Little Boy Lost’ is the latest book in the DCI Anna Tate series.
One early October afternoon, ten-year-old Jacob Rossi begins the short walk home from school. But he never makes it. Days later, DCI Anna Tate is called to the scene of a burning building, where an awful discovery has been made. A body has been found, and the label in his school blazer reads: J. Rossi. As Anna starts digging, she soon learns that a lot of people had grudges against the boy’s father. But would any of them go so far as to take his son? And is the boy’s abductor closer than she thinks?
If you’re a fan of the film series ‘The Purge’, then the latest book by JP Carter is a must for you.
When a police accidentally kills an innocent pregnant woman, all hell breaks loose when raids happen all over London and beyond in revenge for the woman’s killing. It’s while this is happening that DCI Anna Tate has been out during the riots to investigate the tragic death of a little boy chained to a wall in a cellar. Whilst she’s investigating this, her daughter Chloe, who has been missing for the last number of years, running for her life as she accidentally gets caught up in the mass riots.
The story is seen from two perspectives, Anna and Chloe. Whilst Anna is investigating and gruesome and tragic case, she’s unaware of her young daughter running for her life, escaping death, kidnapping as well as rape. She’s a feisty girl, who has been through quite a lot in her short life and is only just beginning to adapt her new life with a woman she never thought of as mum. The two different narratives give stark differences in the dangerous and chaotic riots whilst Anna is working away in her own bubble thinking that Chloe is safe and sound.
This book is the third book in the series by JP Carter and for me, I was able to seamlessly settle into it and flow along with the previous back story which is Anna and Chloe reconciling and the horrific circumstances that brought them together.
The story is truly gripping reading but it genuinely unsettling in parts with the tragic death of a little boy, as well as the chaotic rioting Cleverly written with a suspenseful and terrifyingly believable plot line and unreliable characters riddled throughout. ‘Little Boy Lost’ is a fast paced thriller that right from the beginning really pulls the reader in with the right mixture drama and chaos.
You can buy ‘Little Boy Lost’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops
I've followed this crime series from the beginning and with each successive story the series just gets better and better. It's now such a real treat to join again with DCI Anna Tate and her team of investigative officers.
In Little Boy Lost we catch up with Anna as she is coming to terms with some big changes in her life, the reasons for which were revealed in the previous book, so I won't go into detail for those who haven't read book #2 At Your Door. However, crime doesn't stop and Anna is called back to duty after her compassionate leave when she is asked to investigate a complex case of a missing schoolboy. With the suspense cranked up to high, Anna and her team have a race against time to find out just what is going on with the abduction case whilst at the same time getting drawn into the complications of a series of extremely violent riots which are taking place simultaneously in London. Add limited resources and a shortage of detectives into the mix and the whole case suddenly becomes a good deal more complicated.
I was soon gripped by the complexity of the plot as the story gets off to a dramatic start, and as the action continues at fast and furious pace no stone is left unturned and no small clue is left uninvestigated. It's quite a dark story in places, and certainly doeesn't shy away from the grimier side of life, and yet the author does a great job of tempering the grittiness of the story alongside the human interest and I was especially gripped by, Anna’s daughter, Chloe’s story as she inadvertently gets drawn into the terrible events which are happening in London.
There is no doubt that this is fast becoming one of my favourite crime investigation series and I think that Little Boy Lost is my favourite of this author's books to date. Filled with twists and turns, thrills and spills, the story grabs your attention right from the very start and doesn't let you imagination go until a wowser of an ending which leaves you definitely wanting more.
Another fabulous DCI Anna Tate book, I so look forward to reading these and this didn’t disappoint. Anna and her daughter Chloe are just getting used to being together again after so many years apart, when the accidental shooting of a drugs lord’s pregnant wife sparks riots and mayhem across London. Anna is asked to go back to the force from her compassionate leave to deal with the body of a young, missing boy found in a burnt out pub.
She meets the boys family and the detective heading the hunt for him. It’s up to Anna to work our how Jacob Rossi came to be in the derelict pub and who put him there.
Meanwhile, she enlists her partner Tom to look after Chloe and keep her safe - however all doesn’t go to plan and Chloe finds herself on the streets of London whilst the riots continue.
There was a great twist to the end of the story which I hadn’t seen coming.
Can’t wait for the next one!
Oh yes this was a brilliant read. I loved it and highly recommend.. it gripped me right from the start,
I loved the other two in this series and I really couldn’t wait to dive into the next instalment in this series! It did not disappoint. DCI Anna Tate is such a great character! Really enjoy this one and I just devoured it!!
