This was an excellent novel that drew me in. The storyline was well developed and the characters were sympathetic and realistic.
spoiler alert ** 3.5 stars
An incredibly easy read,so much so,that I stayed up well past bed time to finish the book and see if my guess of who and why was right.
From the very beginning hints are dropped about why Joe isn't the great guy everyone thinks he is.
But as the full story comes out,The psychology of it is what kept me gripped.
He hurts you,but convinces you he loves you,and you feel tied to him forever.
I enjoyed the claustaphobic atmosphere of the house too... so few characters,And you knew one of them had to have killed him.
Got to the end ,happy with the ending, and thinking I should read more of this author
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
This one was pretty twisty- some more obvious than others but still an enjoyable ride. You really do you fall in love with the main female character.s Solid four
Joe McKee is DEAD. But grief is the last thing his two daughters feel. Only *they* know - Joe is NOT a good man, as everyone seems to believe. And now there’s doubt that he might’ve been murdered...and Heidi and Ciara have the perfect motive for killing him.
Claire Allan is an expert at evoking emotions in readers. That is what made this book stand out. I’m not sure whether I’m now obsessed with or afraid of Claire’s storytelling as I stayed up late at night finishing this book in one sitting (which I never do), and therefore getting 3 to 4 hours of sleep.
So warning, this story (and its characters) at one point will mess with your head and make you heart thump until you find out how the story ends. And I have to admit...the identity of the perpetrator - wow, It was smart! There’s also a dark subject matter lying within these pages and it really gave the plot line more meaning and depth! Definitely looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
Wow what a rollercoaster thrill of a book very heartwarming story. Joe McKee was the monster hiding in plain view and how manipulative he was in using people to destroy each other. A heart wrenching read but very thrilling q. Great author great book
I have to be honesty and say that although I enjoyed this and read it quickly, such is Claire’s excellent writing style, I felt it wasn’t as good as her previous two. It had great moments of tension and the prose flowed really well at times. However there were some disjointed elements. Claire is still one of my favourite authors however!
This book is very atmospheric. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering at each turn what would happen next. Though i didn't love how the flash back scenes felt somewhat thrown in at times, I did think getting to see them and not just being told them was great. I will say the ending was a bit of a let down given that it somewhat came out of nowhere. I still overall enjoyed this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
After reading the synopsis for The Liars Daughter I knew I had 5o read this story, it sounded interesting, dark and full of suspense. The perfect thriller! Avon Books publish some cracking stories as well so I was expecting a treat!
....in the end it was just slightly dark. Not interesting and the lack of suspense was beyond frustrating. I don’t think I’ve ever been so bored reading a “thriller” before. There’s hints of a good plot in there but the story just drags on and on.
The terrible thing that Joe has done isn’t even mentioned until quite far in the book, honestly this is just a story of a family bickering with a predictable twist at the end. Looking back I wish I’d just put this book down instead of continuing to the end.
I can’t recommend this story to anyone.
