An excellent novel with a fascinating depiction of characters. I very much enjoyed this wonderful story and highly recommend it.
I listened to this book on audio a while back and totally feel in love with the seemingly confident, assured main character, Madeleine. The intricacies of her personality were so well-developed I felt like I knew her in real life.
If you like complex characters, those you never know exactly what they are going to do next, read Parallel Lies. You'll think this book is one thing only to realize it's something else entirely.
Romance. Suspense. Slight of hand. Lies and deception. It's all in there.
Madeline attends a wine-tasting event in the little village she has lived in for the past 4 years. This is a perfect tool Ms. Rose utilizes to introduce many of the main characters. Although seemingly self-sufficient, Madeline goes to work at an insurance firm 25 miles away on weekdays. What we find out is what she actually does when she gets to work. The reader sees Madeline having an afternoon tryst with 3-4 different men each week. There is no caring or emotion. Or - heaven forbid - love. Once a week or so Madeline goes to see her boss, Cubby, at the insurance agency.
We are treated to Madeline's performance heisting a diamond and sapphire necklace. We meet Cubby and his nephew, Daniel. We then find out what is REALLY happening with Madeline. The story unfolds and Madeline comes to a crossroads in her life...
Will Madeline continue to heist jewels? What will happen when Daniel comes to work with "Uncle Cubby'?
Will her relationships ever change?
Madeline is an extremely complicated character you learn to love if not completely understand.
An exciting story that I could not put down. Read this in one day - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
