I really liked the history of ireland and the fairy circles in his book. It has some good mysteries that's doesn't overwhelm the characters and other parts of the story. I liked all the family connections that were made, it makes the feeling of belonging stronger. I did not like that parts of the story seemed to have time continuity issues. It made it hard to follow the flow of the story since I was trying to puzzle out what was going on. But overall I enjoyed the book and getting to know the characters better. #FatalRoots #NetGalley
I love this.series. Great setting in small village in Ireland. If your keeping up with the series you know Maura inherited a pub and Mike works for her. In this book a set of old bones is discovered by some archeology students.
Great banter, good storyline , awesome setting. Author makes me want to live there
I feel like the story is being rushed along, and that’s taking the joy out of it. The romantic aspect of this book seems a bit dry and jaded. This one did not impress me much, the intrigue juices just weren’t flowing for me, all in all, it was an okay read.
Really like this series about Ireland and its people.
Good drama ,suspense, mystery and a little romance
Great second characters especially Billy.he adds to the story..
Have read them all and they continue to keep the reader entertained.
Voluntarily reviewed.
I always enjoy these mysteries. Well drawn characters, some scenery and atmospherics that don’t take over the book and intriguing mysteries. This one has been set up from the earlier books so you can’t wait to find out how it unravels.
Maura has been living in Ireland for a year now. She’s got a home, a business, friends, and a love interest. Things are going well, but challenges keep emerging to test her. The mother that she only recently reconciled with shows up with the half-sister she never met. Some curious archaeology students lead to the discovery of a thirty-year dead body in a fairy fort.
How could I not love a book that has fairy forts? One of the terrific things about this book is the realistic way the author treats the idea. The tradition isn’t mocked. Instead, the locals (including Maura) seem to look on it both with the respect that history and tradition deserves and a touch of whimsy.
This is not a particularly intense murder mystery. There’s no gore or chase scenes. It’s more of an everyday one, if that’s possible.
I’ve really been enjoying this series and watching Maura grow and open up to the good things in life. This book fills in some blanks in Maura’s family history and the local area. It was a perfect read for a lazy Saturday morning. I’m looking forward to the next book!
Maura is still trying to get along with her mother and step sister, while college students are asking her about the fairies living on her land.
This story seemed to drag for me and I had a hard time paying attention to the story.
Sometimes a book just doesn't appeal to me as a reader, and I think it's time for me to put this series to rest and move on.
I'm a fan of this authors other works, unfortunately, this series just doesn't do it for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for approving me to read this book.
With her life turned upside down and her world transplanted to County Cork, Maura now runs a pub...or is learning to run a pub. With the addition of a sister she knew nothing about, her family troubles have multiplied while her personal life has produced questions about a fairy fort on her new home land. Of course, the next step is a murder....yes, on the fairy fort.
Sheila Connolly has taken the time to set her stories in a very realistic community. You can see the landscapes and smell the pub as you try to keep up with the ever changing characters. Lots to love in this series.
Learning to run an Irish pub, navigating relationships when you aren't great at "peopling," a long lost mother and a step sister you've never met, college students working on a graduate project and a long lost dead body that may or may not involve fairies! Sounds like a fantastical story line, but it just adds depth to a wonderfully woven plot with characters that you would love to sit and share a pint with! You really do need to read the entire series to get the full enjoyment, entertainment and progression of the characters lives, but fair warning...this book will have you wistfully planning a trip to Ireland to look for Leap and Mick Sullivan's pub! If you haven't read any of this series yet, you seriously need to put it on your TBR list!!!
A body is found on fairy fort that is now owned by Maura Donovan who inherited this property in Cork , Ireland . The identification of this body is the premise of this novel. The book however becomes monotonous with mention of fairy forts too frequently , pub kitchen renovations, why Maura ‘s mother left her and other irrelevant details . I just did not feel the mystery combination and the characters were humdrum.
Fatal Roots by Sheila Connolly is the 8th book in the County Cork Mystery series.
I love anything located in Ireland and Scotland, so of course I love this series focussinf on Maura running her inherited pub and home in rural Republic of Ireland.
I love everything about this book: mystery, history, vivid descriptions of Irish countryside, and an imperfect character trying to find her way despite the cards she has been handed.
This book had a good premise, a good mystery element, and had continued character development that we have all come to enjoy from this series. I like Maura, Mick, Rose, and the whole host of characters. I thought the ending was satisfying and positive. I look forward to more in this series.
4/5 stars

Fatal Roots
Sheila Connelly has once again brought a mystery that drew me in page by page. When Maura Donovan moved to Ireland she did so without knowing too much about the area and now she has students from the university asking about Irish ring forts, sometimes called fairy forts on her property. I was intrigued that these forts may hold supernatural powers and the possibility that fairies add fear to these forts?
Then, Maura’s half sister comes for a visit, while Maura is remodeling the pub to draw in more patrons. So much going on for Maura and the mysteries of the new found corpse uncover more news for Maura in another great County Cork mystery! Good paced, great read.
American Maura is slowly settling into life in Ireland after reconnecting with her mother. She has a house and a pub and now her mother has turned up with Maura’s half sister. At the same time local college students warn Maura about interfering with what they call a fairy fort. Legend has it that bad luck will befall anyone who interferes with the mound. It was certainly bad luck for someone, as Maura learns when she finds their remains inside the fort. I really enjoyed this lively mystery steeped in Irish lore and magic
