I have been a fan of G A Mc Kevett since the first Savannah Reid book. Now I love the "Granny" stories. This book was all I had hoped it would be and more. The "southern" comes through loud and clear and I loved it. Thank you netgalley for providing the arc. The review is my opinion.

I love to read about 'Granny'. I always suspected that she had some interesting times in her life and this series goes to prove me right.

I really enjoyed the mystery and liked the way that Granny went about helping to solve it. I also like that we get insight into Savannah's life as a child and understand her as an adult a bit better.

It was well-written and kept me guessing until the end as to the identity of the murdered. These characters are growing and 'fit' the descriptions of them as an adult and their relationships with each other.

I hope that I don't have to wait long for the next installment.

This book could stand alone if you have not ever read any of the books in the Savannah Reid Mysteries series. It is a prequel that takes place when Savannah and her siblings were kids living with their beloved Granny Reid. I found it very enlightening and it explained quite a few things that I have always wondered about when it comes to Savannah and her family. There are so many layers to this story.

Granny Reid takes the children to a corn maze at the plantation house of a rich owner. They stumble across a body in the corn maze. It is a few years old and is just bones and clothing but the Reid's knew the victim. In the course of the investigation alot of truths are uncovered. Some which would have been better off staying buried.

I love how this family and community support each other. There is such heart here.

Stella always liked to d all that she can for her grandchildren which includes making Halloween a fun and memorable holiday. She can't afford to buy all of them new costumes but with a little bit of ingenuity making them isn't hard at all and can be quite fun. After the town's Halloween parade is over everyone is looking forward to the annual Corn Maze that a local judge has on his property. Stella's longtime friend has gotten her tickets and the older kids are looking forward to it while the younger bunch get to enjoy story time. While making their way through the maze they become lost, her granddaughter decided to climb a tree to figure out where they are and ends up finding bones. The bones look like they have been there for years and it is a huge shock when Stella realizes she knows who it is. It comes at a bigger shock when she sees that the person was killed in the fashion her own mother was murdered. Stella knows that the bones belong to the mother of her best friend and that she needs to do.everything she can to help find the killer. Follow along as Stella, with the help of the Sheriff, and her oldest granddaughter search out clues to this decades old murder. Will she be able to shake out the murderer and finally know who killed her own kother? This was a great read that hooked me from the beginning, I didn't put it down until I had all the answers!

Riveting Rural South Mystery
I would not call this a cozy mystery. It is a very good, contemporary thriller that gave me nightmares. It is more like the TV show Criminal Minds than Agatha Christie. You've been warned. It is a very good story that is well written. It is quite the page-turner. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

We've all fallen in love with Savanah Reid and her quirky family, including glimpses of her big hearted, sharp witted, take no nonsense Granny! Now, in this new series (this is the 2nd book) we get to know Granny Reid and kids as they came to live with her. Their past and Granny's past comes to light. GA McKevett has woven a creative background with interesting stories that read well on their own but also tie in nicely to the Savanah series :) And, I've really enjoyed reading about the young Savanah!

Murder in the Corn Maze by G.A. McKevett is the 2nd book in A Granny Reid Mystery series, and I really enjoyed it. First of all I love the Savannah Reid Mystery series, so I am excited to read this series too, and I was not disappointed. This book goes back in time to tell how Granny Reid who was awarded custody of Savannah and her 6 siblings. When a women is found dead in the corn maze, Granny with help from Savannah and the Sheriff, go looking for the killer. I loved this book and strongly recommend anyone who likes cozy mystery, especially Savannah Reid series. I look forward to the next book in this series.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. Thank you.

Murder in the Corn Maze is the second book in the Granny Reid Mystery series. I have not read book 1 but was able to get up to date quickly.
It's Halloween and Granny Reid has taken her grandchild to the local parade in the costumes she has created for them and from there they are going to the corn maze that Judge Patterson puts on every year. The younger children will stay and listen to a story while the 2 oldest will go into the maze. Once inside they get to the middle but trying to find the exit teenage Savannah falls onto a skeleton on the edge of the maze. When it is determined who was buried in the woods, Granny knows she has to know the answers to who and why could do this.
This story has history of Savannah's family, love, friendship, humor, and plenty of twists and turns. It shows the fans of Savannah how she was lead to her current life.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley for an honest review.

I’ve just been introduced to this talented author. I have read the first book in this series and am going backwards to read the series from which this is a spin-off. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading her books and will be looking forward to more books in this series.

While this book can be read stand-alone, I highly recommend reading the first book in this series so you can understand how Stella Reid got custody of her seven grandchildren and the backyard of many of the characters.

In this story, The Reid family is part of the Halloween parade and contest. From there, they move on to the Halloween Maze at the home of the richest family in McGill, Georgia. While only the oldest actually go into the maze with Stella, they still manage to get lost. In trying to find a way out, the eldest grandchild finds a particularly gruesome skeleton that turns out to be real and not merely a Halloween scary prop.

I won’t say why Stella gets involved in solving this crime but it makes absolute sense. There are layers of clues and false leads before the truth is revealed. While I had an inkling of the whodunnit, I wasn’t sure until the last moment.

The story, while a murder mystery, is funny and heartwarming. The children are the absolute light in Stella’s eye and her purpose for living.

I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

This was a different cozy for me and I had not read any prior by the author. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.

Author G.A. McKevett has written this second book of Granny Reid .
Stella Reid is raising her seven grandchildren on her own. This I found daunting to read about and many of the kids are misbehaved and do not listen to her. its a very sad situation. She has a good friend in Sheriff Manny but not much help from anyone else. This is a emotional read that I was not prepared for of a past murder of Stella's Mother and a current murder that gives her flashbacks that affect her. Her life has been marred by tragedy and you feel the emotions of her sad life through the pages

The sleuth was interesting to conclusion and had a lot of common clues to her Mother's murder .. I was surprised that it was not more Halloween focused. The corn maze is really the only reference to Halloween. It has a darling cover but is a emotional roller coaster of a read and you cannot help but love a woman who would have taken on seven kids as a senior !

I like this series because it’s takes you back to the 1980s when there were no cell phones, there was no Google, times were ‘simpler’ and crimes were harder to solve. I also like the main character, as it is unique that she is a grandmother (although a young one) and is raising her grandchildren as a widow in a small southern town. Altogether this makes for a very setting. You do not need to have read the author’s other series (starring one of the grandchildren) in order to jump into this series.

I'm so happy that Stella has her own series as prequels to Savannah's series. Granny raised Savannah and her siblings and times were hard, money was scarce but love was the glue that kept them all together. In this, the second of the Granny Reid series, Stella (Granny Reid) takes the children to visit a corn maze but only Waycross and teen aged Savannah go with Stella into the maze. When they take a wrong turn, Savannah stumbles upon human remains. When the police investigate they discover that they belong to Elsie's mother who went missing many decades ago. Elsie is Stella's best friend and the emotional ties are strong. Is the killer the same person who killed Stella's mother?
Even as a young girl, Savannah knows she wants to be in law enforcement and we get to see her interact with the local police as they try to track down the killer. I had several people on my list and none of them were correct guesses. That's the way I like my mysteries. With twenty-five books in the Savannah series, it's a pleasure to read the backstories of Stella and the family she nurtured.. Stella may not have much money but her grandchildren know what is really important in life thanks to Stella.
I have read both series from the beginning as each was written but I think this can be read as a stand alone. If you are new to these series then you have a lot of reading enjoyment in your future.

I loved this Granny Reid Mystery. Stella and her Granddaughter Savannah are out to help Sheriff Manny out with the body that they found in the woods near the corn maze that they were going through. Savannah helped a lot with this one. This is a very interesting mystery. Several times before the end you feel you have figured out who done it but you have to read to end to see who it really was.

Stella Reid is Savannah's grandmother- Granny Reid- who raised her with grit and love. This is the second in the series that features her as the heroine (you'll be fine if you missed the first one). Set at Halloween, it focuses on the skull Savannah finds in the corn maze. It's the 1980s so forensics are not as advanced as they are today - and that means that Granny, Savannah, and company must work harder to figure out what happened. This story links back further in the Reid family but McKevett does it without tangling things too far up. It's a treat not only for Stella but also for young Savannah. There's lots of love in this family. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A quick fun read

Stella Reid and her seven grandchildren show off their creative homemade costumes at the Halloween parade in 1980s McGill, Georgia. They then go to Judge Patterson’s mansion and his famous corn maze. They expected some frights but when Stella's eldest granddaughter Savannah finds a half-buried body, the terror is real. Stella recognizes the dress and unique hair barrette as belonging to Becky Dingle, the mother of her best friend Elsie who had mysteriously disappeared over 40 years ago. Becky's death also brings back sad memories of Stella's own mother who had been killed when she was a child. Similarities in both murders indicate an unknown serial killer is responsible. Now Stella, with the help of her feisty granddaughter Savannah and Sheriff Manny Gilford, dig into old family secrets to find the truth.

This was another enjoyable read and a great prequel to the long-running Savannah Reid mystery series.

I received an eARC from Netgalley and Kensington books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.

Murder in the Corn Maze is a good book with interesting characters. I must go back and read the other book since the I the second. Well written.

When their father disappears and their mother is incarcerated, Stella Reid takes over raising her seven grandchildren in a small Georgia town. She does what she can to make holidays memorable for the kids, including heading to the judge's mansion for the annual corn maze. When Savannah finds human remains at the edge of the maze, remains that have apparently been there for decades, the discovery opens a Pandora's box of past history and secrets some in town would rather remain secret.

This is the second book in this spin-off series, and I like it as much as I like the original series. It's fun getting the backstory for some of my favorite book characters, and it allows the reader to get to know Granny as a major character rather than just in a supporting role.

I enjoy the camaraderie among most of the residents of McGill, Georgia, and the way most of them look out for one another. Of course there are exceptions, but those are the people who make excellent suspects in each of the puzzles that are unearthed as the story progresses. It's hard to imagine an officer of the law allowing a young girl to be as involved in an active investigation as Savannah was in this book, but due to the small town situation, I was willing to suspend disbelief and go along with it for the sake of the story. I had a mental list of potential suspects that I worked through as I read, but the reveal took me by surprise. I look forward to reading the next book in this series!

I have been reading the Savannah Reid mystery series since the very beginning. So when the author started writing a prequel series featuring Savannah's beloved granny, I was thrilled. This is not a series that I have ever become tired of. I love Savannah and her family. When Granny, Savannah and Waycross are going through the corn maze, they take a wrong turn and stumble across a dead body. They now have to solve a 40 year old mystery. The mystery is fast paced, and Savannah, at 14, has already decided that she wants to become a policewoman. She helps Stella (Gran) and Manny (chief of police) in figuring out a couple of the clues. We get more of Stella's back story and she had a very tough life. The author is very good with red herrings. Every time I thought I had the murderer figured out, that person was eliminated. As long as the author wants to write these two series, I will be reading. Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and I'm voluntarily giving an honest review. This is one of my favorite authors and she does cozy readers/authors proud! I've read all the Savannah books so it's nice to get the background story of how she and her siblings grew up with Granny. The plot and characters are fantastic. I can see that Savannah's siblings were no different as children than they are as adults. Enjoy! 📚

The second in the mystery series featuring Stella, or granny Reid, takes place once again in Mcgill, Georgia at the start of Halloween. The Reid clan are still adjusting to living with Granny full time and are excited to the town's Halloween parade. Decked out in their handmade costumes, they set off for the corn maze, set up on Judge Patterson's large plantation. However the youngest become fearful and stay back to listen to a story, while Stella, Savannah and Waycross venture through the maze. It's not long before the trio get turned around and Savannah's efforts to set them on the right path result in the uncovering of a skeleton. Stella recognizes the dress on the body as belonging to someone close to her who disappeared more than 40 years ago. Could the killer be the same person who murdered Stella's own mother many years ago? As Stella, with the help of Savannah and Sheriff Manny seek to uncover clues as to the killer's identity, it soon becomes clear that solving the current mystery will help bring closure to Stella, something she hasn't had in many years.
It's always a treat to be able to visit the Reid clan again. Their comical southern charm and antics, especially those of young Marietta, balance out the dark nature of the two murders central to the story line. The mystery was well plotted and expertly weaved from past to present seamlessly. As a longstanding fan of the Savannah Reid series, I enjoy getting to know Savannah as an early teen before Moonlight Magnolia existed. I highly recommend this series to fans of Mckevett's first series as well as those looking for a well written Halloween themed mystery.
