Read in one sitting, lots of steady action. Allie kept finding bodies on the small Island of Mackinac. She’s an amateur sleuth, who makes fudge in her shop inside hotel she inherited from family. Follow along on her adventures with her dog, cat, and friends and expect to stay intrigued in this fun story.
E-book/Cozy Mystery/ARC: This is one of the better cozy mysteries I have read in a while. I has every thing I like in a mystery. The location is in the Upper P...on an island (even better), the narrative is in first person, Allie is a pet lover, and I didn't guess the murderer. This was a quick read that made me want to open my own fudge shop in a small island town that didn't allow cars (except ambulances). I can't wait until October now so I can make some Cinnamon Chocolate Fudge! The book has recipes!
There really wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. It is book seven in the series and is well written. The author gave me just enough backstory from other books that I want to start from book 1; no other book plots or conclusions were spoiled. Allie is likable. The town is likable. I did get this book from NetGalley in lieu of an honest review and I ain't fudging when I say I loved it.
Did I mention Cinnamon Chocolate Fudge?
Fudge Bites sends the reader on an incredible chase of whodunit.
When Allie McMurphy and her cat, Mella, stumble upon another body right before the Halloween zombie walk, she knows she might be able to help.
The victim is well known, and well liked, so who would do this awful crime? Was it a prank gone bad, a case of mistaken identity, or was the victim really the target?
Allie is trying hard to fit in on Mackinac Island, and when she's asked to find the culprit, she can't say no. Will her inquiries put her in harm's way?
It seems everyone has their own secrets, but who wants theirs to remain locked up forever?
I've really enjoyed reading this series and this book is one of my favorites. There is so much going on that the reader will not want to put it down.
The ending was excellent and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for approving me to read this book.
Mackinac Island and Halloween make for a fun setting for this keep you on your toes mystery with fun characters, the fudge making is a bonus yum!
The beautiful Mackinac Island is the setting for this delightful Halloween themed cozy mystery.
If you're ready for some Halloween reading you can't go wrong here. Plenty of zombies and decorated pumpkins on the island for Zombie Walk .
A keep you on your toes mystery will keep you guessing while you read about hotel remodeling and fudge making. Descriptions of the scrumptious fudge making is sure to make you hungry and luckily there are fudge recipes galore including some delectable autumn fudge recipes. I can not wait to try these! I loved the development of the story and the descriptions make this a very believable book with a down home feel. I can not wait to visit Mackinac Island.
Well crafted mystery, I can not wait to read more!
Expected publication: September 24,2019 by Kensington Books.
I was given a complimenatry copy of this book. Thank you.
All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the 7th book in the series, but my first book by this author. I enjoyed the book and wasn't ever lost. I enjoyed the setting, and the characters, along with their relationships. I look forward to finding the others in the series.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Halloween on Mackinac Island means it's Zombie Walk time. But Allie, the owner of McMurphy's Hotel and Fudge Shop, never makes it to the walk when her cat finds a dead body in the alleyway. Between making fudge and starting renovations on her beloved hotel, Allie has to figure out who is doing all of the killing...and the bombing!
This book had me Googling fudge shops in the vacation town where I was staying. Cravings galore! I found the writing a little flat. There are some seriously traumatic things happening in this town and the reactions seem devoid of real emotion. Much of the action happens in the hotel so I didn't get a feel for life on the island. I might go back to read the first in the series because I am intrigued by Allie's past.
This is the 7th in Nancy coco's candy coated series. Allie lives on mackinac island with her dog malla in the historic McHenry she inherited from her grandpa liam. It is late October and they are having a zombie festival and that night allie and malla are going for a nightly stroll and hear someone scream down the alley and find her friend shining a light on a body. They call rex the sheriff to come and investigate. Allie and liz try to help find the killer. In the meantime allie is having her 2nd floor renovated. if you want to hear more read the book.
Cute Read, Funny characters, Well-crafted mystery and an idyllic setting.
Thank you NetGalley & Kensington for the ARC.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!
I always enjoy these mysteries, and this time around was no different. Mackinac island is such a different setting for a cozy, and yet Nancy Coco makes each one realistic and believable all the way through. The mystery was a really solid one; I honestly thought we might be dealing with unrelated incidents or something related to previous books for a while there, and it kept me on my toes. The themesfor this cozy are varied too, with fudge, dogs, cats, tourists and hotels all combining together to add a richness.
Allie's love life is still undecided at this point, but I think I see more where we are headed and I like it! The awkward love triangle is probably my only downer for this series, so the sooner it gets resolved the better. There were also less of Allie's friends around this time, but that leaves her time to form new friendships and add in new characters not seen in this series before.
This is a really fun mystery series, and this book can be read on its own or as part of the series (and really, it's so good you simply must go back and read the others) five stars.
It’s the off session on Macinack Island and Halloween is fast approaching. The locals are getting into the holiday spirit with a zombie crawl, but when fudge shop owner Allie McMurphy follows bloody cat tracks behind her shop she finds a real dead body. She and hunky cop Rex are on the case. An enjoyable and delicious cozy
I so love and adore this series. I just can't get enough. And this was another winning entry in what I hope is a long series. Awesome story, ending was a surprise. Mouthwatering recipes. Love this book!
I enjoyed this book. It's tightly written, very suspenseful and full of yummy looking recipes. I admire Allie's determination to stay in her home on the island during the winter while everyone else is closing up shop. I was relieved that the cat was ok after being missing for so long, and was a really hero at the end. #FudgeBites #NetGalley
This is a most enjoyable cozy mystery with interesting, intelligent characters, a wonderful small town setting in Mackinac Island and featuring delicious fudge recipes. Allie McMurphy is continuing her family tradition by running the Historic McMurphy Hotel and fudge shop. It's Halloween time and Allie, along with her friends Liz and sophie are planning on participating in the zombie walk to raise money for the heart association when Sophie finds the body of Anthony, the son of her friend/employee Frances' best friend. Well known on the island as the local sleuth, the town expects Allie to find out who committed the crime since Anthony was well liked. The murder is followed by a bombing of the senior center, finding a duffel bag filled with gold bars and yet another body. Once again Allie is on the case and able to solve the mysteries , despite being in the midst of hotel renovations and dealing with two potential love interests. This was a fun, fast paced mystery and I highly recommend it.
