A CHRISTMAS ABDUCTION by Madeline Hunter
Caroline Dunham has a bone to pick with notorious rake Baron Thornhill—and a creative plan to insure his undivided attention. Yet once in close quarters, she finds herself beholden to their smoldering connection . .
Deet's review: He was on his way to his brother's estate for Christmas and to secure a wealthy wife . Caroline kidnapped him and took him to her crumbling estate because ...well, let's just say she had a reason. But that reason did not include her falling for the handsome baron.
This novella is Madeline Hunter at her best; terrific development of characters and a unique plot. I loved this story. My Rating:5 Christmasy feeling: 4.5
A PERFECT MATCH by Sabrina Jeffries
Whisked away from a wintry ball by the officer she knew only through letters, Cassandra Isles struggles with her feelings for the commanding Colonel Lord Heywood. For he, secretly a fortune-hunter, must marry for money to save his estate—and Cass, secretly an heiress, will accept nothing less than
love . . .
Deet's review: Melodramatic, but delightfully so. Deliciously sexy. Splendidly entertaining. Everything I expect from Sabrina Jeffries. My Rating:5 Christmasy Feeling: 5
ONE WICKED WINTER NIGHT by Mary Jo Putney
Dressed as a veiled princess, Lady Diana Lawrence is shocked to discover that the mysterious corsair who tempts her away from the costume ball is the duke she once loved and lost. Now snowed in with Castleton at a remote lodge, will she surrender to the passion still burning hotly between them?
Deet's Review: Mary Jo Putney's story is an offering of a second chance love story. The hero and heroine were torn apart by his wicked father. She left for the continent and India and has returned seven years later. They accidentally meet again at a ball, Diana, and her cousin Rory, are a bit scandalous in their dancing but it does attract Anthony's attention. They are at a masquerade, he a pirate and she an Indian dancer. They find their attraction to each other to be still strong. But can the Duke convince Diana that they have a future?
Here is one of those book boyfriends to swoon over. Tortured past, heartbroken over Diana's refusal to marry him seven years ago, determined to sway her to love him again. Sigh.....
So romantic!!
Deet's Rating: 5 Christmasy Feeling: 5
I'm so used to having at least one “bad” novella in an anthology that it blew me away with this anthology having three five star stories! You really can't go wrong with this anthology.
Three great short stories by 3 great authors. Madeline's book had misinformation between h/h. Sabrina's had heroine and her intellectually challenged cousin are whisked away before a villain could. Mary's story we have have an older women younger man second chance.
All stories were great quick reads. I hope to read more about these characters in future books
The first story by Madeline Hunter had everything I love in a romance: a strong, caring heroine, a hero who is in want of a better future, a villain, great supporting characters and a slow build to passion. Caroline has abducted Baron Thornhill with the purpose of having him do the gentlemanly thing: marry her pregnant sister. There are two flaws in this plan; one being Caroline and Thornhill are attracted to each other. Thornhill admires Caroline for keeping her father's horse business going despite misfortunes; and Caroline has no doubts that Thornhill will do the right thing despite his reputation.
The second story is also a winner. I have not read anything by Sabrina Jeffries before but will now. Cassandra and Kitty, her sweet but not-so-bright cousin, have fled from a villain with the help of Colonel Heywood (it could also be argued that Heywood abducted them). Heywood is under the impression that the witty letters his friend and fellow officer has been receiving throughout the years were written by Kitty. Cassandra is under the impression that suitors will only woo her if they know she's an heiress. As the attraction grows between Heywood and Cassandra, their plans and assumptions are upended.
Mary Jo Putney’s story is about a second chance at love. Diana has come back to England after several years of traveling. The 19 year old boy she fell in love with is now Lord Castleton with the same admirable qualities he had 7 years ago. Whenever I start a book by Ms. Putney, I remind myself to be patient. She tends to take her time building up a scene and story line and it is always worth the wait.
Three queens of Regency romance give us three tales of snowy wintertime attraction and seduction. It is always a pleasure to read these ladies' stories. Each presents lively characters, interesting situations, and stumbling blocks on the road to happily ever after.
During the holidays, love is very much possible, new love and old love. All three authors each give a delightful tale about finding love. Through kidnappings, whether intended or not, each par discovered what they had been missing. Love develops and love returns, though the past can be difficult to escape and overcome. Forgiveness and understanding go hand in hand, for Christmas is the time for miracles. Each man wants to seduce his lady, for she is the only woman they could see spending the rest of their lives with. Each lady wants a man to love her for who she is, for they are not your typical society lady, each having their own mind. Yet, all have a strong desire to protect each other regardless of what the initial circumstances were.
3 of the best Romance Writers! 3 fabulous stories. These stories have several things in common. They all take place at Christmas time. They are all novellas and in the last 2 stories they follow the last story in the series the authors are in the middle of.
Many times in novellas, I feel as if I'm coming in at the middle of a story and then it feels like it rushes to a conclusion. That was not the case here. These stories all had a beginning, a middle and an end. They were so well written that they captured you from the very beginning., and you just didn't want to put the book down. In the case of Ms. Hunter and Ms. Jeffries, they even added some intrigue.
I loved all 3 stories! I would recommend this book to all! I would like to thank Netgalley for giving me a free copy for review.
Seduction on a snowy night is a wonderful compilation of Christmas love stories by some of the biggest names in romance. Although each follows a familiar trope the writing and characters are fresh and come alive. In Christmas Abduction by Madeline Hunter Caro abducts Baron Thornhill because her pregnant sister names him as the father of her baby. Caro and the Baron proceed to fall in love, finally getting their HEA when Caro’s sister confesses she lied. In Perfect Match by Sabrina Jeffries Cass writes letters to her cousin Kitty’s brother pretending to be Kitty. Of course, Kitty’s brother shares them with his soldier compatriot, Heywood, who promptly falls in love with her. As he is about to cashier out he visits Kitty and realizes the duplicity and that he is still in love with Cass. A problem arises as Heywood needed to marry the heiress Kitty to save his estate or he will be once a pauper. Luckily Cass is able to surprise him with the well kept secret that she also has a large dowry so they get their HEA. In One Wicked Night by Mary Jo Putney were separated by an evil father and a dark secret. They meet years later at a masquerade ball and are able to rekindle their love.
