A Very Mummy Holiday by Lynn Cahoon is another novella set in the world of the Tourist Trap series. Being a novella it's a short afternoon read but one that kept me turning the pages.
Jill and Greg are on a mini-vacation with friends in a cabin on the coast of Oregon. Unfortunately, they find a mummified body in the sand dunes as they are riding one morning. Greg actually encourages Jill to do some online snooping in this one and I enjoyed seeing them work together for a change. The plot is fast paced with some scary local suspects that kept me engaged until the end.
This was a good story, but it really needs to be longer, more fleshed out. I was able to follow the story, but sometimes it felt like I had to make leaps over gaps that really shouldn't have been there. The basic idea is good, but the book felt rushed, like the author got bored with it or was late for a deadline.
Getting back to the wonderful characters and town that is the setting for the Tourist Trap mysteries is always enjoyable, and this is a great novella addition to the series. Even on vacation Greg and Jill can't get away from murder and mystery. Short, but engaging and keeps it interesting.
A great new novella in the Tourist Trap mystery series. Greg and Jill tent a cabin with some friends for Thanksgiving and during an off road trip through some sand dunes, discover a woman’s mummified body. There’s a small town sheriff, a local suspect, and some suspicious bikers. It all adds up to a neat short mystery. A nice addition to the series.
Jill and Greg are joining friends and family at a cabin in Oregon for the thanksgiving week. Before the other arrive, Jill, Greg, Blake, and Kathi decide to get some fun in driving on the sand dunes. While out for a ride, Blake and Kathi flip their vehicle and Kathi finds a diamond ring still attached to a hand that has been mummified.
When the body turns out to be the fiancé of the dead woman, he becomes suspect number one. But the friends don’t believe that Caleb killed Dania and they set a plan in motion to find the true killer. With Kathi being a ringer for Dania, the friends discover that another woman who looked like Dania also went missing and it’s a race to find the killer before he makes Kathi the next victim.
A great series and it’s wonderful to get a novella to tide me over until the next book is released. Lynn Cahoon is one of my must read authors and I adore her alter aliases as well. If you haven’t read anything by this authors, this is a great standalone to introduce you to the series and author.
A fast paced mystery with great characters. I'm beginning to tire of these novella length stories for this series. This one had the potential to make an amazing story that absolutely could have filled an entire book. I wanted more back story on Caleb. The mummified remains were an interesting twist. I also feel like the ending was anticlimactic. I want to know why the killer was doing it.
I absolutely love Lynn Cahoon’s Tourist Trap series so I was thrilled to get an advance electronic copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Those familiar with the series will be surprised to find Jill Gardner outside her bookstore, without a good book, and being encouraged to research a murder by her boyfriend, Greg. They are enjoying a holiday in Oregon, so Greg is not the lead investigator in the case, so they get to investigate together.
Those who are not familiar with the series shouldn’t shy away from this book. It is a quick read and there is a ton of the fun Jill/Greg interplay to draw you in.
When the couple arrive at the cabin they are renting with Kathi and Blake for Thanksgiving, the boys are intent and taking the girls on the sand dunes. Bookish Jill and former beauty queen Kathi are unsure but go out. All is well until Kathi finds a mummified murder victim.
The book is short and keeps you engaged. It is a fun cozy mystery that fits well in the series.
I always like and look forward to the Tourist trap series. Jill , Greg and another couple from town go to Oregon for thanksgiving week, where they ride off road vehicles across the sand dunes. First they’re bothered by a group of unsavory local men on the trail, then find a body uncovered in the sand dunes of the cabin owner’s missing fiancé.
A good plot that would have been a great novel length book, but again it’s truncated into a too short novella, which is a shame. Good story but as a novella, I tend not to buy them for our library. I’m hoping Lynn Cahoon writes the new ones in a novel length.
Jill, Greg, Kathi, and Blake head to Oregan for Thanksgiving week to get away from it all.
While out riding, Kathi finds an engagement ring in a sand dune. The only problem is it's still attached to a hand.
When a local gang member starts showing Kathi a little too much attention, things start getting a little uncomfortable for the foursome, and they start taking measures to make sure everyone stays safe as there was a murder a few years previously. And Kathi has an eerie resemblance to her.
This was a fun short story, with engaging characters, and a well thought out plot. This story is a little darker than most of the cozies I have read. It is the 11th book in the series and is a stand-alone story. I have not read any of the previous stories in this series and did not feel I missed anything at all.
Jill Gardner is taking a vacation from her coffee/bookshop to travel to the Oregon coast with her boyfriend and her golden retriever. They are renting a house where they discover that their host’s son’s fiancée has disappeared. And the locals are far from friendly, they’re kind of scary. Then a partially mummified body is found. It looks like Jill and Greg should have stayed home for their vacation
This is a fast paced novella by Lynn Cahoon.
Jill and Greg, along with other friends, rent a cabin for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Riding dune buggies and sitting my the bonfire is what they have planned, but unfortunately, it doesn't play out accordingly.
When an unsolved murder interrupts their vacation, there is no way Jill can resist using her investigative skills to find the truth.
I enjoy these fast paced stories that the author puts out in between full length books. They keep the characters fresh in my mind and it's nice to get a little treat in between.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for approving me to read book.
I wish this story was a bit longer. I enjoyed it but would have liked a little more insight into the killer. #AVeryMummyHoliday #NetGalley
Jill leaves the book and coffee shop for a week of vacationing with Greg and Emma in Oregon with Blake and kathi. They go sand dune riding and kathi discovers a ring and its attached to a Skeleton. Jill and Greg try to help the sheriff who the killer is. Kathi looks alot like the persons that are missing What an enjoyable read.
