It goes without saying that tragedy breeds resentment. But in this instance, the victim begins to make you wonder; can a person take their revenge too far. In a game of who do you trust and how much do you give away in order to make those who ruined your life pay, Jubilee may get what she wants. But in the end is revenge ever really worth it?
Well written and intriguing.
Purgatory Bay is quite good. A diabolical plan to get even with ones that have preceived to do a girl wrong. 12 years ago, Jubliees' life is changed forever. Everyone thinks she has moved on, how wrong they are. The use of drones, plus other technology makes this book scary, as you think this could actually happen. Second in the series, I can't wait to read more.
A story about losses all around; the consequences of some of those losses are so profound reverberate for decades. Mind boggling violence has implications for both the guilty and the innocent.
The living members of a murdered family focus on revenge, regardless of the possible collateral damage. Some innocent are swept up among the guilty and some of the supposed allies are revealed to be something else.
A lot of tragedy towards the end with some elements of redemption. Keeping track of all the characters was a bit tough, but once I got everyone straight, it moved pretty fast.
This book is highly suspenseful. The author tells a complex narrative... in a story whose final pages reveal answers I have not read the first book in this series but will do so now.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is another great thriller by Bryan Gruley who has written some of my favorite books. A great revenge novel that is more whydunnit than whodunnit, will have the reader guessing. I love Gruley's Bleak Harbor sense of place, much like he did with his Starvation Lake series, where the setting is as important to the book as the characters, Would recommend this book to those who love James Patterson.
A diabolical and complicated revenge plan to strike out against multiple "enemies" is launched creating an intriguing and entertaining plot to keep you on the edge of your seat to see what twist is coming next! Excellent character development really strengthens the plot to bring the characters and story to life! You won't want to miss this second installment in the Bleak Harbor series! Kudos to the author for weaving a delightfully complicated story and I hope to read much more from him in the future!
Purgatory Bay was a interesting mystery with a great murder weapon. This book is well written and has great characters.
This reminded me of an episode of Law&Order Criminal Intent. You know who did it, and the story unravels why, and how they are discovered.
There were some cool, unique twists, such as the use of drones as a murder weapon. I liked the characters and their back stories. I liked how the story was told from several points of view
It might be my old age, but with two primary characters having siblings who died young, I did get confused as to which sibling belonged to which character. I also found it hard to really root for any of the people;I just couldn't feel a connection. The being said, I did find it really interesting, and was drawn into the story.
Thank you to the publisher and net galley for the advance copy, which did not affect my review.
I haven't read the first book of this series so I might have been more attached to the characters if I had. The plot is pretty original and drones as murder weapon is still pretty fresh. This wasn't a whodunit as much as a slow yet often predictable unraveling of why. A couple of hiccups with a couple of twists make this a good read overall and I would read more from the Author.

This was a really good mystery, I loved bleak harbor as a setting and the characters themselves. The plot was engaging and really enjoyable. It's what I look for in a mystery series.
At one point it looked like Jubilee Rathman had the world by the tail, then her family was murdered and she was sent to jail. Twelve years later, Jubilee is planning her revenge, concentrating on journalist Mikey Deming who hinted Jubilee had mob connections. Her revenge is to kidnap Mikey’s daughter and sister. Police chief Katya Malone steps in to help get the hostages back safely, but as she and Mikey follow clues it becomes obvious that nothing is as it seems. Plenty of surprises highlight this thriller
