I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I just couldn’t finish this book. I couldn’t get into this book. This just wasn’t for me.
This was such a sweet read! The characters had me by the heartstrings from start to finish! It was a truly gripping story.
Omg, omg, OMG!!! This book tore me apart, only to put my heart back together again! 5 Unforgettable, unique, heart-stealing STARS!!!
Lost Years was an absolutely incredible and mind-blowing read. This was my first M.K. Schiller book, and as a new to me author I am so hooked! From the very first pages of this book, I was completely captivated. I was throwing out theories to this complex read, and twist after turn all of my theories were so wrong! Artfully composed, Lost Years took me by surprised and stole my heart.
Highly emotional, complexly written, and a love so intense you'll feel it days later. One click Lost Years today, and enjoy a jaw-dropping read you won't be quick to forget!
Where do I start?!
So Flynn heads to Texas to find his dream girl and I mean that quite literally and figuratively! He knocks on the door of his Aunt Rose and I fell on love immediately!
Aunt Rose is such a character and she had me in stitches, she has a heart of gold ,a sense of humour and is loyal tk the T.
I love how those living on the island have set rules about their home yet they're so welcoming 🤗💕
So Jason ends up helping in the diner with Aunt Rose and there he makes some friends along the way but he has his eye set on one in particular .....
Scarlett has the voice of a nightingale and has Jason eating out of the palm of her hand, this is her ,the girl of his dreams 💕
There were times when I thought my heart might stop, I laughed, I cried, there were a few surprises along the way and I became an IBC ( islander by choice)
A read I'd recommend with a happy heart
I l oved the idea of this story. It was unique and I found my self drawn to the overall story. The characters were really great and I found my self reading fast and faster to see what the outcome would
This one was the first book of this autor that i read, at first got my really invested in the story, but for some reason i was lossing my love for it, at first i tought it was a love story a romance...but nop...it was a fantasy ish with a little bit of sci fi, and in that moment i got lost...the writting is good, that was something that i enjoy and so the character were well writting but the plot in some point got a little bit confusing.
i think for me this book deserve a 3.5 stars cause the autor now how to writte good characters but for me i enjoy more a book with one style, if it is romance please stay like that and dont turn in a horror or something else
This was a new to me author, I must admit I didn’t know what to expect from this story. Half way thru the book I got an idea about it, and I was right. It’s PNR, I don’t read much of this genre, but it caught my attention.
It was a good read, I was a bit exasperated with it, but I finished it, it was angsty at points, and truly got me engaged.
It was a good read, I’m giving it 4 stars, even though I’m sure I won’t read more PNR, I enjoyed it.
I just really enjoyed this book. It was just really easy to get lost in this book. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Lost Years was an intriquing read, that drew me in from page one, and kept me engrossed till the end.
It was fast paced, and the twists and turns, that kept me guessing. It was so different from other books I've read. The characters were complex, but so likeable. Secondary characters were great too. I will be reading more books from this authors.
I received this book from Netgalley!
This was an interesting read. Just when I think I figured out what was going on the story took a turn I wasn't expected. I went in thinking this was purely contemporary romance but there is a PNR aspect thrown in that made me rethink everything that I had previously read. Flynn and Scarlett are star-crossed fated lovers. We learn about their relationship through Flynn's dreams, but are they really dreams. This is the mystery that we have to unfold to understand the story. I liked that it kept me "on my toes" and was not an expected read.
I'm a huge fan of MK Schiller but Lost Years didn't grip me the way her other books usually do. The story moves at a very slow pace and there were too many scenes that just didn't grab my attention. I would've preferred fewer flashbacks and more of the story today.
In five years I’ve only done a review like this one perhaps once, maybe twice. I wish every reader who is caught up in that Cover Description of LOST YEARS would look no further, just go on instinct and purchase the book. I firmly believe if a reader goes around reading reviews they will be aware of things that should come naturally within the storytelling. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it.
LOST YEARS is breathtaking in telling a story of love in such a way that you may begin to believe in fate, in soul mates, in possibilities that you never would have considered before. There are plot twists where you think you’re going in one direction only to take a sharp turn in another. It’s one of those stories that when finished you’ll be tempted to do a re-read immediately with your new-found knowledge so you can see what you may have missed earlier.
I was captivated by Jason and Scarlett’s romance – and I strongly believe you will be, too. This is a story to take a chance on, I do not believe you’d be disappointed should you take that chance and pick up LOST YEARS and discover this love story all on your own.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
OMGee, this book, y'all! Holy carp!! Unexpected, magical, devastatingly beautiful and spellbinding! It will have you questioning every reality you thought you knew and believing that “what ifs" can come true, while reaffirming the exquisite gift of forever love. This spectacular wordsmithing will mangle your mind and hurt your heart, then have you jumping for joy and happy sighing all over yourself.
Jason and Scarlett's story has me believing in the immutable power of love and the fate of soul mates, destined to find each other in any lifetime. Their romance is one of sweet, tender, young love that is breathtaking and heartbreaking yet satisfying and full of hope. These characters may be young in age but their souls seem to have lived a hundred lifetimes, imbuing them with wisdom beyond their years. Their story ensnared me from the first page and captivated me throughout, while the bumps and turns along their journey stunned me and shattered my heart. When all was said and done, Jason and Scarlett owned a piece of my soul and my battered heart was left blissfully sated.
Seriously, y'all, this book! It easily earns a spot on my top ten for the year, and this new-to-me talent is one I’ll keep an eye on. Assuming this book is an accurate representation of her writing, she has a back catalog I need to work my way through, and I’ll be eagerly awaiting her next new release. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted, easy read, it’s probably not this book, although there are lighthearted, fun moments to be found here. However, if you want a story that gobsmacks you along the way but leaves you in giddy delight, and one whose authentic, endearing characters live in your heart long after the last page, this is that book. Get your hands on this one post haste, and prepare to lose your heart to these phenomenal characters.

Beautifully written love story with so many wonderful and awful surprises
This book made me laugh, cringe, angry, cry and feel…
Twenty-year-old Jason Flynn has had a hard life. Even though his family is wealthy, he has been in and out of rehab for drinking and drugs. He’s left his sister Anna, his father and his second wife in NYC to go visit his Aunt Rose in Serenity, Texas, a small island. His mother died tragically when he was an infant. After that his father changed dramatically. Jason had nothing left in NYC. He’s had dreams most of his life that seem to be an alternate life. Was it really a dream? It seemed so real and these dreams got more distinct and clearer the longer he lived on the island. So many things he couldn’t explain. Things he knew having never been there before, Including the girl of his dreams, Scarlett Jones. How is this possible? He knows things about her and her friends, Tommy and Russell that he couldn’t possibly know. But he does!
The whole book is told in Jason’s point of view b/c his real life and his dream life seem to converge. This book is funny, sad, poignant and has a twist at the end that I surely did not see coming. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through A Novel Take PR and comes highly recommended for those who like suspense, romance and humor. It deserves more than 5 Stars!
When I first got into this book, I don't know if I just didn't read the synopsis carefully, or if I just forgot, but I was not expecting a paranormal story.
Not that it isn't a bad thing, because I think the author did a great job in creating that fun, paranormal / fantasy / time travel twist to romance.
We follow the main character who is set in a contemporary world, but his mind wanders onto this mysterious paranormal island where he sees a beautiful girl. He eventually sets off to find her and the story shifts between a contemporary romance with paranormal vibes.
I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars. Mostly because I was not expecting the story to turn how it did, but also, it did take me a chunk to really become invested with the characters and knowing what was going on.
Strangely unique. A love formed in dreams. Emotional journey from childhood to present. The story is told from Jason Flynn’s POV. He had a roller coaster life filled with addictions, fantasies and loneliness. His dreams lead him to visit his Aunt on a Texas island. He meets his dream girl and others who add depth to the story. The story will take you on many twists and turns. It is not what you will be expecting.
I both liked and didn’t like this book so it is very hard for me to review it. I was so confused several times and thought about dnfing it more than ones but there was something so intriguing about it that made me continue to the end. I had to know what was going on with this poor guy Jason Flynn, who felt that his life wasn’t the way it was supposed to be and that his dreams felt more real and true and almost like memories.
You are thrown around in his dreams and his reality and you get totally confused but it is so well-written that you really feel for him and you want everything to work out for him and Scarlett and also all of the other characters that gets involved in their romance and life. You just have to know if they will all be alright in the end.
I fell in love with Jason and Scarlett over the time they have together. They are so comfortable and relaxed around each other. They can just talk to each other about everything and they encourage and back each other up in difficult times. It was instalove and then it wasn’t but I can’t explain that without spoiling anything so I won’t.
The plot still confuses me and the end has a HEA that is very sweet but maybe too sweet and end too happily for everyone which is not very realistic. But ok this book isn’t very realistic in any way soooo...
I can recommend this book if you like a swoon worthy hero, a beautiful strong heroine, great side characters and some twists and turns with magical realism.
I got this book through Entangled Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The first and only book I read by M.K. Schiller was The Scars between Us. That book was shockingly good and to this day, I love that book.
When I read the synopsis of Lost Years, I was absolutely intrigued by it. It promised a story of love that is filled with mystery and an almost ‘kismet’ like moments.
When I read the synopsis, I was expecting a book about soulmates and unexplained faith that questions whether magic is real or not, a book that makes you believe in magical moments that are mysterious and for some, that makes you believe in reincarnation ,perhaps? I wanted a book that wasn’t a fantasy read but had “magical properties”. What I was was not expecting this book to be actually a fantasy book.
I loved the first 70% of the book. The first 70% was beautiful and heartbreaking… it had an almost melancholic atmosphere to it.
I wanted the book to end there because the last 30% lost me. Not because it was bad… I just think it was forcing it to be something it wasn’t.
Spoiler alert here but I didn’t sign up to read an actual fantasy book that involves time reversal or what not. Nope…I didn’t want any part in that. I think that sometimes Happily Ever After isn’t necessary in a book…sometimes we have to acknowledge that death of a character can be heartbreakingly painful but it makes a dang good book. It’s sad…it’s unjustifiable but we accept that that is life.
So I was really disapointed in Lost Years. I think the characters were lovely. Aunt Rose was especially delightful! I think for me, I would have been more than ok with the character dying and the other half learning to live on without the other half.
3.5 stars
Still not sure what to make of this book. Although I did enjoy it, but it was a bit too out there for me.
I recieved a arc in exchange for an honest review. My true rating is 3.5 stars. I thought this was a cute story. I liked the twist towards the end and I felt that it all made sense. Scarlett was well written and you can see them together in his dreams. Most of their relationship is seen through his dreams and so when they meet in real life the feelings that Jason has don't seem rushed. I enjoyed the dreams and I enjoyed the twist of how they seem real. I felt the writing was simplistic, but overall it was a cute, easy read.
