Thoroughly enjoyable thrill ride of a story! the author consistnely writes a gripping story and this title does not disappoint!
The Stolen Girls is the second book in the D.I. Lottie Parker series and can be read as a standalone. In this outing, Lottie is in a rush to get back to work after a prolonged leave of absence to deal with the aftermath of the last case she solved. On her way out, she runs into a woman and child at her door, a woman who doesn't speak English. She hands Lottie an envelop with a note written in another language. Lottie rushes her off and heads to work. The case she ends up dealing with is one of a woman buried at a construction site. When she gets someone to translate the note, it is a request to find a young woman. Is this the person who the young woman was looking for? When another body turns up in a similar manner, found by the same man, Lottie knows they need to figure this one out before more bodies are found. When two more woman go missing, a friend of Lottie's daughter and the woman who originally came to her door, the case heats up. The investigation leads to a resettlement center, and Lottie is sure the administrator, Dan Russell, is hiding something. Will they find the missing women before one of them shows up buried in at another construction site?
Wow, this one kept me on the edge of my seat. This is the second case that comes close to home for Lottie. Somehow, her dead husband was connected to the missing girl and Lottie needs to figure out how? Her daughter is keeping secrets that are dangerous and the child of the missing woman ends up living with Lottie and her family. Once again, the crimes are serious yet timely. The story begins in Kosovo and the prologue is hard to read. I thought I knew how it all fit together, but I was only partially correct. Dealing with trafficking, stolen organs, rape and self-harm there are some heavy issues covered in this book. We get to know more about Boyd in this book, and learn about his past and marriage, as well as information about Adam, Lottie's husband. All this is written in a way that meshes the information and stories well. My heart broke for little Milot. He was in a strange country and now his mother is missing. What is the connection with Andri Petrovci, the man from Kosovo who found the first two bodies? The Stolen Girls is a well written, fast paced, and thrilling police procedural with a lot of twists thrown in. Once again I will say parts of this book are difficult to read and may trigger some readers.
Patricia Gibney https://patriciagibney.com is the author of seven novels. The novel The Stolen Girls was published in 2017. It is the second book in the Detective Lottie Parker series.
Due to scenes of violence, mature situations, and mature language, I categorize this novel as ‘R’. The primary character is Irish Garda Detective Lottie Parker. Parker is facing many issues in her personal life. She became a widow only four years before. Involvement in an earlier investigation has traumatized her three children.
One day a foreign woman appears at Parker’s door asking for help but then disappears. Later, the body of a young woman is found. More bodies and missing women follow. A close friend of Parker’s teenage daughter has gone missing. Could there be a connection?
One suspect implies that Parker’s deceased husband is somehow linked. The Garda has a suspect, but Parker doesn’t think he is responsible. Can she find the killer before there are more bodies?
I enjoyed the 9.5 hours I spent reading this 465-page mystery. While this novel reads OK on its own, it would be better to start reading with the first novel in the series. The cover art is a bit drab, but the story is also a little dark. It seems to fit. I give this novel a rating of 4 out of 5.

I loved this it's the kinda thing I'm drawn to I liked the main character and everything that happened I was expecting but knowing this is my favorite subject in the books I read I would definitely read it again and that coming from me is saying something I don't re-read often
Maybe I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read the first in the series, but I don’t think I will. While there were a lot of twists, and I didn’t see the end coming, Lottie was unlikable, and a mess at both her job and as a mother. I got tired of her partner always telling her to calm down, and her screaming at him not to tell her that. Not professional at all. Sorry as I had high hopes for it based on some other reviews.
This is the second book in the Lottie Parker series and I look forward to reading more.
This book started off with a bang and didnt let up until the end. Girls found dead and the same man discovering their bodies leaves Lottie Parker determined to get answers. This was a fast paced police procedural that was well written and suspenseful. I look forward to reading the rest in this series.
Thank you to Netgally and Grand Central Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to read a copy of this book. 4.5 stars rounded up!
Whooooooo this book raised all of the little hairs on the back of my head! Read this during the daytime and try to finish it before bed so you can sleep without thinking a killer is breaking into your house!
I absolutely love this series. This is not my first book by Patricia Gibney and for sure it won't be the last. She never disappoints.
The Stolen Girls is the second in the police procedural series featuring Irish DI Lottie Parker, however, I was happy to jump straight in and read it independently without any issues as the author, Patricia Gibney, provided enough background to allow me to feel comfortable with the characters and setting. Set in fictional town of Ragmullin in the Irish Midlands and the surrounding villages, Lottie Parker makes a rather dysfunctional but very likeable detective. Four years after his death, she is still grieving for her late husband, Adam. In her forties, Lottie has an addictive personality and she works hard – often to the detriment of her home life with her three teenage children, Katie, Sean and Chloe.
This novel was a fantastic, electrifying and solid police procedural and I warmed to Lottie from the outset. It was a well-balanced thriller that had me glued to the pages and I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. As Lottie, along with her second in command, Mark Boyd, and the rest of her team embarked on an exciting and exhilarating mission to find the perpetrator, all of the time the tension was being ratcheted up a notch as Patricia Gibney smacked me with some captivating misdirection and planted a few red herrings. The writing flowed effortlessly with a swift pace to it as The Stolen Girls delved into topics such as organ harvesting, rape, organised crime, human trafficking, and self-harm, making it an extremely difficult read at times.
The compelling plot is brilliantly executed, and all the flashbacks tie in perfectly with the storyline. The well defined characters and underlying currents are the main highlights, all building up to an amazing ending. I love a good murder mystery, and this one definitely didn't let me down.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my request, from Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
Had to DNF at 35%. The story was all over the place so I couldn’t get into it. Seemed to be about a detective investigation into missing illegal women. Idk. It didn’t make sense. At least to me.
I will have to revisit this book once I read the first title in this series. I’m sure it could work as a stand-alone but I didn’t feel connected to the main character.
I had some difficulty becoming engaged with this novel. It is the second in a series, the first of which I have not read. Quite a bit of the personal interaction between the detectives in the police force is a result of happenings in the first novel so I was a bit lost there. The novel takes place in Ireland but I felt the setting was not established well, perhaps again from missing the first novel.
I really had trouble liking the lead on the murder investigation, Detective Lottie Parker. She was not the strong kind of heroine I like. She did not relate well to her children and she was often rude and disrespectful to her co-workers. She is not the kind of lead character about which I would like to read more novels.
The investigation takes Detective Parker into dark areas of mankind I wish did not exist, like human trafficking and organ theft. The plot progression was steady but the unlikable character and dark subject matter made me think I'll not read more in this series.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
I have previously read this, which started my obsession with this series. Love this series and always anticipate the next book!
*thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
The Stolen Girls is one of the good mystery thriller books! The author has well developed detective Lottie’s character and the character is maintained well throughout. Some chapters in between felt like a stretch, but the theme and the storyline is thrilling. Fast discovery. Good old victim-suspect story. But the author manages to engage the reader with the story very well. I read it in two days! Amazing. Will definitely look into more of Patricia Gibney’s books. Thank you netgalley for this amazing read.
I have to start with a confession. I haven’t read the first book in the Lottie Parker series but that is a mistake I need to rectify. There are lots of references to the previous book which was a bit disturbing since I didn’t know what happens in the first book but I kept reading.
It took me 8 days to read this book because I found it hard at first to get into the story (and also because I read 3 books simultaneously). Anyway, after the first 30% I got the hang of the story and I got used to Lottie too, the book became a wild ride.
I’m not a cop and don’t have children but this is exactly how I imagine a woman with a serious job and kids and without a husband would try to cope with her life.
Lottie is just back to work after what happened to her and her family in the first book (I have to read it yet) and on her first day she already has a case. A murder and the victim is unknown. As she struggles to uncover the victim’s identity and track down the killer she has to deal with her oldest daughter’s depression, her younger daughter’s attitude and to top that 2 other murdered women are discovered.
This book has lots of violence and graphic descriptions about rape and torture. But when I read the description I still requested it because i was curios and saw lots of 5 stars review praising it.
What I liked most about this book are the characters. Each one complex and so human. Lottie is just like every mother who has to juggle with work and private life, balance it somehow and making mistakes along the way. The children Katie, Chloe and Sean trying to lead a normal life after going through horrible things most people only read about in books. And still they have the courage and strength to help other who has it even worse. I so love the characters I can look upon and laugh and cry with them, for them.
I loved the strong ties that this family have, their love for each other. This is exactly what drives Lottie, her need to protect.
The plot is nothing unique but the execution is. I loved that the investigation is broken down to days. It makes the story easier to follow and definitely made me feel like I was part of the whole thing. The flashbacks to the past all made sense especially in the end.
There is twists and turns and deceptions and jealousy and everything you could ever want in a book like this.
All in all I found this book engrossing and captivating and I fell in love with the characters with all their shortcomings because that is what makes us human.
Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for my copy.
Gibney continues to amaze! In the second installment of the D.I. Lottie parker series, young women keep turning up dead... and the same man seems to be finding their bodies. As Lottie rushes against the clock to catch a killer, she comes across some potentially disturbing information about her deceased husband Adam -- information that could tie him to a killer. On top of work stress, she is trying to help her kids pick up the pieces after her son's previous kidnapping. But, now that a killer has Lottie's family in his sights, will her daughter be able to escape the same fate her son suffered just a few months prior?
I didn't know how Gibney could possibly top her debut book, The Missing Ones, but this second in the series brought just as much pulse-pounding suspense, mystery, action and danger as the first novel. Once again, I found myself turning the pages far into the night to see what would happen. As with the first book, the plot of this novel is full of shocking twists and turns and it kept me guessing.
I LOVE the character of Lottie Parker! She is bold, brash and brave at work but, in her personal life, displays a vulnerability completely at odds to her work persona. I like her quirky dichotomy. She has so many layers, and I feel like I am just scratching the surface in getting to know her. I look forward to peeling back those layers as the series progresses. I don't know when I have enjoyed a character or series as much as I have enjoyed Lottie Parker, so far. I am eagerly awaiting the third title in the series, The Lost Child.
This story is a good one about a female detective. I liked the dynamic of the characters and the link to the past that the villain had. The characters had heart and the plot built up the suspense.
A main character who is trying to juggle work and family, a murder or two to solve along the way. Flashbacks to a bad time in Kosovo give us the back story. A well written, enjoyable thriller
This is the second book in the Lottie Parker series and was full of twists that kept me guessing what would happen next! I thoroughly enjoy this series and the author has a gift for creating suspense that makes it impossible not to read her books in one sitting!
Another great read from Patricia Gibney!
The body of a pregnant young girl is found but nobody has been reported missing. It is up to Detective Lottie Parker to figure everything out. More bodies are found and girls go missing. Why is it always the same man who discover the bodies and what is the link with Kosovo?
On the home front things are also complicated. Lottie has just started working again and things are not as it seem with her children. What are they hiding from her?
A fast paced police procedural that keeps you guessing till the end. It touches on a lot of current issues like sex trafficking and organ harvesting
