The second novel starring Detective Betty Rhyzyk.

Another excellent novel from Kent. It builds nicely on the foundation laid by book one, growing the characters and what we know about them. Excellent prose, a gripping story, and engaging characters. Really can't ask for more from a crime/mystery series. Highly recommended.
Detective Betty Rhyzyk moved from Brooklyn to Dallas with her wife, Jackie. But Betty is having problems after her kidnapping by a cult in East Texas. She cannot run because her calf muscle is still healing from being cut. She is back on the job, but feels she is just staying in one place. Forced into therapy, Betty is trying to get better. But...Betty's cop partner may be developing a drug habit. Someone is assassinating confidential informants. Betty decides to go rogue to find out what is going on in her narcotics squad and comes face-to-face with a cartel enforcer who wields a knife. Life on the mean streets can be murderous. Kent does not suffer from sophomore slump in this second entry in the series. Recommended for adrenaline junkies.
