I would like to thank Netgalley and Penguin UK for an advance copy of All the Rage, the fourth novel to feature DI Adam Fawley of the Thames Valley Police Force.

When teenager Faith Appleton is found wandering the streets it is obvious she has been attacked but with little to go on and an initially unwilling victim the investigation doesn’t get very far. When another teenager, Sasha Blackford, goes missing DI Fawley can’t help but see parallels to a past case.

I enjoyed All the Rage which is a tense procedural with a full plot and plenty of twists and turns. I have loved the previous novels in the series but this one I didn’t find quite so gripping so it has taken me days rather than hours to finish it. I don’t have a reason for this, except perhaps my mood, as it follows the same format, a first person narrative from Fawley intercut with third person narratives, mostly from the team rather than the “other side”, press releases, court transcripts, police interviews and social media screenshots giving the “man on the street” view. It is an interesting approach and certainly gives the reader a wider perspective on events, although mostly they add little but pressure to the investigation. Having said all that I found the last quarter of the novel gripping as that is where all the disparate parts come together in a rather shocking finale.

I think the plot is rather clever as it has, as its basis, several real life crimes melded together to make what would seem a fairly unbelievable scenario if you didn’t know (as a true crime documentary aficionado I recognised some of them, by the end, I should stress, not during the novel). I liked looking back with this knowledge to admire Ms Hunter’s skill at weaving them together but all through the novel I appreciated the bombshells she kept launching to keep the reader on their toes. I think where the novel falls down that these don’t always have the impact they should as they get lost in all the different points of view and bogged down in other details. I have no doubt that the novel accurately reflects a police investigation with its emphasis on detail and a myriad of false leads and theories but it’s not always enough to maintain attention.

The first person narrative by Adam Fawley brings a more personal note to the novel. His wife is pregnant again after their first son died and is suffering from stress and anxiety. Throughout the novel the reader is led to believe that this is due to the pregnancy but secrets have a way of getting out, so maybe there’s more to it.

All the Rage is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Best book I’ve read all year.
Clever plot, interesting characters and extremely well written.
I read this in one go. I just did not want to put it down.
Focused on current themes and with some great twists.
DI Adam Fawley and his team investigate an attack on a young trans woman and the death of a schoolgirl in Oxford which look like copycats of a man that Fawley investigated and got sentenced to life imprisonment almost 20 years previously.
5 STARS 🌟

When a teenaged girl is found wandering the streets of Oxford in distress, the police are shocked by her story: snatched off the street by someone she didn't see, shut in a van with a plastic bag over her head, and assaulted, she is understandably traumatised, but refuses to press charges and won't say why. The case bears undeniable similarities to a case DI Adam Fawley worked on twenty years ago, but the man responsible for those crimes is still locked away, and Adam is certain they got the right man...isn't he?

When a second girl goes missing, Adam and his team must investigate not only the current crime, but also the past. Did they make a mistake twenty years ago, or do they have a copycat on their hands?

This is a well-written police procedural with several twists and turns - just when you think that you've worked things out, another spanner gets thrown into the works.

It wasn't a perfect novel for me - I've read other Cara Hunter books which I much preferred - but it's an enjoyable read for those who like police procedurals. There were a LOT of characters in this, and it was pretty dense, so at times I got a little lost as to what was what and who was who, and while some of the twists were ingenious, others fell flat for me, and I felt there was maybe one twist too many towards the end. I did like it, but I'm glad this wasn't the first Cara Hunter book I'd read.

Thank you to NetGalley, who provided me with a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I always enjoy Cara Hunter's books. I love the setting of Oxford, as I am so familiar with them. I grew up in the exact area described in this book and like the girls in the story, I often walked to the Vicky Arms with friends. A lovely spot. It is always nice to be able to place yourself in the location of the story.

I have to say that I did not find this story as enjoyable, or as mysterious as some of her previous work, but it was a good story and I would recommend it..

This is latest installment of DI Fawley although he takes something of a back seat in this investigation because the case has similarities to one he prosecuted many years ago - a case where the rapist has always maintained his innocence and said the Fawley set him up. In the current case, a girl is found walking along the street obviously distressed. At first, she doesn’t want to speak to the police but they persuade her to. Shortly after, another girl is missing and late found murdered in similar circumstances. This is a dark and disturbing case, really, but very gripping. Thanks to Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth book in this series and totally honoured to review it. I absolutely loved this. Wanted to devour it but as it’s so well written, so griping, such a twisty-turns and brilliantly original story I savoured every last word.
I won’t spoil the plot but it’s a book you can either read as a stand-alone but you’d be better reading the first three as there is a story that runs through all 4 books following the police characters.
What I love most about the book? It’s believable.
In summary: another amazingly written, rollercoaster of a compelling ride written by easily the most talented writer. I feel she is the heir apparent of Ruth Rendell.
5/5 and I’m spreading the word!

I know it's a while 'til the release but as soon as this arrived in my inbox I just had to read it and as expected I devoured this book in a matter of days. At this point it would appear Cara Hunter is incapable of letting me down.
I don't want to say much; this is the fourth book in the series and the mystery was so intricately woven I don't want to unravel anything for prospective readers, but I will say this: read the DI Adam Fawley series. Not only is there always a solid mystery that'll keep you guessing until the very last pages with twists I could never have seen coming and have yet to be rivaled for me by any other author, but they (quite literally) have a lot of character, I love seeing the same group of characters I have grown to love in every book, there is always an aspect of their personal lives which I feel is so important in mysteries, it gives them depth; in this book the mystery being investigated brings to question an old case of Fawley's that threatens to ruin everything. I was truly gripped. At the end of the very first book I just knew I had to have more and this attitude of mine has not lost steam, if anything, it grows with every new book. I urge any reader, even newbies to the mystery, thriller and crime genres to read these books, I promise you will not be disappointed.

Cara Hunter’s mysteries are always psychologically very cleverly crafted and “All the Rage” is no exception. Set in Oxford featuring DI Adam Fawley and his colorful team of detectives , Faith Appleford, a beautiful fashion design student is found in a deserted part of the city by a taxi driver, looking very distressed, dazed and with her clothes torn.

Everything points to sexual assault but when Fawley and his team start investigating what might have happened to her; she is unwilling to press charges but is able to remember some striking details which point to an old case Adam Fawley would rather forget. There are striking resemblances to a case of a serial rapist whom Fawley was able to get convicted despite him claiming his innocence until the end of the trial.

“All the Rage” is a very plausible plot, the characters are richly drawn and I am really into this Oxford team of detectives now. Be prepared for several unexpected developments which keeps you on your toes until the very end of the novel!

Cara Hunter did it again... OMG WOW, what a book I really enjoy this series and love how each book connects in some way. You don't have to have read the others it does help and will make the story much more enjoyable to read but otherwise, you should enjoy it either way.

This book really kept me guessing all the way to the end and with a lot of physiological thrillers that can be a hard thing to do but Cara Hunter has a way to turn the story just at the right moment which makes for page-turning suspense and that ending ..... Ekk can't way to see what book five has in store for us ...

Thank you so much once again I am so pleased I get to read amazing books like this and find new fantastic new authors I may never have thought to have read.

Another fabulously plotted book by Cara Hunter. This series is one of my absolute favourites. This is the fourth book in the series and they all are consistently excellent. The focus is on the crime and not so much on the personalities of the police which is good. The plot is intricately woven with so many twists and turns. It is well thought-out and provides a compelling read. Loved it from start to finish.

A very well written story. Keeps you engaged from the start.

I have read lost of Cara Hunters books and enjoy all of them.

This was a very good twisting story. The plot has lots of twists and turns and keeps the reader guessing who did it

This is Cara Hunter’s fourth book but you don't have to have read the others (although you should). I loved her debut novel Close to Home and this is every bit as good. It’s everything I want in a crime novel. For starters, it’s a solid police procedural focusing on the team work that’s needed to solve a murder, delivering the same kind of satisfaction as a great TV drama.

Moreover it delivered in a way that’s compulsively readable: it balances multiple strands and is full of mini cliffhangers that keep you reading “just a few more pages” until late in the night. And there are so many twists and turns and red herrings that you keep changing your mind about who’s responsible. Even as the Police (and we) close in on the answer, there are still unresolved elements.

I have to admit that even though I’ve read all of Cara’s books I couldn’t remember much about the characters and their back stories but it didn’t really matter. They’re a likeable group of characters although only a couple (Fawley and Soman) are fleshed out.

My only qualm is the initial police investigation into the first crime – I thought it unlikely that so many police resources would be expended at that point. However as the plot advances this became less and less important.

Thank you very much to Penguin who gave me an advance copy for review via Net Galley.

I was really looking toward to read this, but didn’t find that it was as gripping as I expected. I did enjoy the book, but it was a bit mismatched and not as enthralling as I’d hoped.

I have absolutely loved reading this serious so I was super excited when I was approved to read Cara Hunter's latest installment. And true to form this was an absolutely gripping read from start to finish. I did have to pace myself with it, simply because I wanted to hold onto the story for as long as possible. There were plenty of twists and turns that had me guessing throughout.

Well I thought I knew DI Adam Fawley pretty well as this is book four but when his current investigation linked back to a case from twenty years ago I had to think again. There is a lot going on here with two current seemingly linked incidents and the tie in to the old case. I thought the use of the court transcripts to fill in detail of the historic case worked really well. As usual we had some social media feeds and also a couple of descriptions of fashion vlogs. It’s the first time I’ve seen that type of thing included in a book and it which worked surprisingly well. We had a few twists and turns on the way to the conclusion and a wee gem of an epilogue. This is such a good series and it feels like there’s plenty of mileage left in the characters. Fans of the series will love this latest one and if read as a standalone it would surely entice readers play catch up with the first three books

This is the fourth book in the DI Adam Fawley series, so to make the most of the character development it’s best to read in order. Although, the investigation is new and therefore, of course, it can be read as standalone.
The pieces and puzzles mount up in this pacy crime read as Fawley and his team try to solve an attack on a young girl and the following brutal murder of another.
I really enjoy the mixed media and investigators/court document inserts in Hunter’s novels - the early books were rather Twitter heavy and I skimmed at times, however the balance in this book is really good ~ the documents and social media chats are short and snappy, enough to be an asset to the storytelling rather than a distraction
.
This is an intelligent, twisty, impeccably plotted and driven crime thriller read.

Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed that!
It all starts with the unprovoked abduction and assault on a teenage girl on her way to college, this is followed by the death of yet another teenager. Both cases are seemingly unrelated but all the evidence points towards someone who DI Fawley put away nearly 20 years ago.

Really really good read. Full of action with great characters and shocks right up until the very end. There are a few jaw dropping moments and a brilliant plot.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
