After a teenage girl is abducted, DI Fawley recognises the hallmarks of a convict he helped put away years ago. But with the man still in prison, who could be responsible for this new crime? When a second girl is also subjected to the same treatment, Fawley is caught up in a race against time to uncover the new criminal before someone else gets hurt.
Delving into the world of incels and their misogyny, Hunter puts together a book which is as enthralling and engaging as her previous works.
Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Penguin Books (UK), for the ARC without obligation.
A teenage girl is abducted and subjected to a terrifying ordeal and is later found wandering the streets in a distressed state. She refuses to press charges but enough details come out for DI Fawley to recognise the signature of someone he put away years before, who is still in prison. Is this a copycat or something more worrying. Then a second girl is abducted and it is a race against time to find the person responsible.
The fourth book in the DI Fawley series takes in the murky online world of Incels, and it's never a pleasant experience to read how much they hate women. There's also the labyrinthine world of female teenage friendship to contend with which can be a minefield. Although it didn't hold my attention like the previous two books did, it was still an above average read. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4
TW: brief descriptions of sexual assault, misogynistic talk.
Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, Penguin Books (UK), for the opportunity to read an ARC.
What a great book I really enjoyed this and couldn’t put it down. I really look forward to reading another book by Cara.
The idea behind this novel is really good, and there are definitely parts of the story that are gripping and clever and that keep you guessing. The characters are, on the whole, engaging but I didn’t find them particularly realistic. Without giving spoilers, I wasn’t convinced that Fiona, given her situation, would have been treated quite so well by every single member of the police that she came into contact with. There was an opportunity here for some authenticity, that felt missed.
I also wasn’t convinced by the ending. The motive didn’t feel solid enough and it all felt a bit disappointing.
I have to say I found the first 50% sufficiently slow moving to do quite a lot of skim reading, which isn't my normal approach to a book. However, as the plot, complete with welcome imaginative twists and turns, progressed, my enjoyment and my interest in seeing the case solved increased. I think with this being my first book in a series of 4 I may have been had a better experience if i had read those first.
This is my first experience of Cara Hunter and I am encouraged by a numbers of reviews that suggest this isn't her best work. Perhaps I shall try one of the three earlier D I Adam Fowey novels at some point in the future.
Absolutely loved it, one of my favourites this year. I got really invested in the characters and there were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing. I highly recommend this book.
Loved this book, the characters were as good as always and the story just as intriguing.....looking foward to the next one
This has got to be one of my books of the year. I absolutely love Fawley and his team.
Their interactions and Cara Hunters ingenious writing are phenomenal.
Once again I have not been disappointed and breezed through it.
Left on a cliffhanger I am hungry for more. Bring it on, I’m ready.
Highly recommended 5 stars from me.
A great read from Cara Hunter. I have not read any of her books before. The plot has lots of twists and I didn't expect some of them at all.

This is the 3rd book I read in this serious and once again Cara Hunter delivered a fantastic police procedural mystery.
The story starts off with the horrific kidnapping and attack on a young woman, we read as the police investigate the case, and we follow them as they use their skills to catch the perp.
I enjoyed the inclusion of multimedia into the story, it made it feel authentic but I think the story did drag, and in this particular instalment there was too much focus on the police officers personal lives. Usually I don’t mind the longer books in this series but with this it could have been shortened. I will definitely continue on with this series and I highly recommend if you’re a fan of police investigation mystery/thriller novels.
Thank you to Penguin Books UK and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thoroughly enjoyed this page turner from Cara Hunter. D.I. Fawley investigates the abduction of a teenage girl found with a plastic bag over her head. It brings back memories of an old case where the Roadside Rapist is imprisoned though pleading not guilty.
This book is amazing as everyone she wrote loved it from beginning from end.
The characters are set out really good and enjoyed them.
I have loved all the books in this series and this one did not disappoint. Loved it and could not out this down. I have since purchased as copy for my Mum who also loves this series!
I enjoyed this book. It gripped me from the start and right through to the end. I would recommend this book.
This is the first cara hunter book that I have read.
I enjoyed this book, I thought the short snappy chapters.
Despite the fact that this is the 4th in a series it didn't matter.
I liked the locations it was based around Oxford although some did seem a bit random at times and all over the shop.
Enjoyed this book love the author the way the teenagers were in this book made me smile because it was spot on as usual many twists and turns some I did not see coming the only negative I felt like the ending was abit rushed but like I said I enjoyed reading it
Having read the previous three Cara Hunter books I pre ordered this as soon as it was announced. It didn’t disappoint at all. I’m now looking forward to the next one. We learn more about Fawley in this one as so far his history has been somewhat of a mystery. This is a good story, with a good twist and it kept me guessing who’d done it until the very end.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
An excellent read. Cara Hunter writes brilliant thrillers, DI Hawley is developing nicely as a character. Look forward to the next in the series.
All the rage by Cara Hunter.
This is book 4 of DI Adam Fawley.
This was a brilliant read. I love this author and the wat she writes. Adam is my favourite. What a twist. Didn't see that coming. 5*.
