An excellent debut thriller. A story about a family of girls and their mother, We jump forwards and backwards from 2010 to 2017 and the intricate details of the family history are tantalisingly revealed, slowly building up to the explosive end of this fantastically written story. Brilliantly explosive details are dripped down to us throughout and maked me want to keep reading till I knew it all! Cannot wait for the next one!

The Flood is a very atmospheric mystery with a premise that grabbed my attention when first read the summary and lost of twists and turns. I wouldn't say it necessarily stands out that much among the numerous books in this genre I've read this year, but it is certainly entertaining and well worth the read!

Unusual murder mystery spanning several decades. Four sisters all different defined by childhood/teenage actions. Lots of surprises and twists.

This is a smart thoughtful thriller which is atmospheric in detail. I enjoyed a day on the beach while reading it.
Many thanks to One More Chapter and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Daniela returns to her home town to claim something of hers after a number of years away.
But she finds the town in the midst of a major flood and when she finally gets to her old childhood house, as well as it being in a much more rundown condition than she realised, she also finds her younger sister’s half submerged body.
In fear of being accused of her murder, she tries to find out her killed her.
This story is set in two time lines, the present and the events of seven years ago.
This was a slow burn of a book, I had a hard time working out the sisters relationship and who was involved. It held my attention enough to keep reading but I found myself often wondering if I had missed something. The second half of the book had more pace and questions were answered but in hindsight I think there was a whole lot more to the sisters earlier life that was never really touched upon, so for me, I never really felt connected.
Enjoyed it but easy to move on from.
Thank to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

I hate to say it but I didn't read the whole book. I couldn't find any care for the characters. It felt disjointed. The plot itself was good, but it wasn't surprising. I ended up skipping a lot of the book to get to the interesting parts and to see how it ended. Other mystery lovers may really like the book, it just wasn't for me.

Really didn’t love this, the premise was great but the pacing was incredibly slow and none of the characters were likeable all of them were if anything a little odd. Persevered to 35% and then DNF

2 stars.

What a disappointment. Unfortunately this didn't interest me. I felt it was too slow and nothing really seemed to happen. I had hoped it would have picked up the further into it that I got but it didn't. I can't say anything that I really liked about it other than the cover looks really good.

Based on the description of this, I thought it would be something that I would really quite enjoy. Daniela is one of four sisters in her family. One day, many years after leaving home, she returns only to find that her whole hometown is flooded. What she doesn't expect to find is her sisters dead body in their old home.

This just didn't deliver which is unfortunate because it could have been so amazing. I wish I had enjoyed it more.

In theory this sounded amazing and the comparison to The Dry made me intrigued. I found that it was very slow indeed which is a shame as a really good idea is there, its just not executed very well.

** Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review **

I was intrigued by the premise of this book and fully anticipated a dystopian storyline (rising floodwater, people in danger, etc) but that wasn't at all what I found. This was much more about the people trapped in the town (though under no real danger from the water, merely inconvenienced) with 2 storylines exploring a past event and how it affected their dynamics in the present day.

I liked the characters in general but, while there was tension in parts and a few twists, I didn't find this was a book that I wanted to get back to with any urgency. A solid 3/5.

The Flood is a very tense and exciting mystery thriller about a girl called Daniela Cain who returns to her small home village after seven years to collect something from her old home. The story goes back and forth between 2010 and 2017 When Daniela arrives the village is flooded and she finds her younger sister's body in her old house. She wants to find out what happened to her but things start going wrong. I was kept on edge throughout the book and is became very fast paced and exciting in the last few chapters. I would definitely recommend this book to any mystery/thriller fans. Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy to review.

I could NOT put this down! For sure it was a page turner! Four sisters struggle with life in a small town and a father with a wicked temper and a mother who runs off and leaves them. They grow up and struggle with who they are. When one of the sisters turns up dead, the "who done it" begins.

The Flood was a really original and interesting book. Stonecrop is home to the Cain family and it opens with the four sisters (Franklyn, Daniela, Stephanie and Auryn) staging a symbolic funeral for their missing mother. We then jump ahead to 2017 where Dani has returned to Stonecrop which is in the middle of a flood. She is unable to leave which becomes an important part of the storyline. She discovers that her sister Auryn has died in mysterious circumstances but this is only the first of the mysteries that are revealed over the course of this story. We jump forwards and backwards from 2010 to 2017 and the intricate details of the family history are tantalisingly revealed, building up the tension until it reaches the crescendo at the end of this brilliantly written thriller. Intelligent and sophisticated plot-lines makes this stand out from the crowd when it comes to psychological thrillers.A thoroughly enjoyable and edge of the seat read!

I am going against the grain, but I just didn't care for this book. I love a good Thriller, but this one fell short to me. It was a good premises, just not well written. The book goes back and forth between the present and past. This was the first time I have read this author and probably will be my last.

Take what you think a English book about 4 sisters in a remote village is supposed to be about, and flip it on it's edge, give it a good shake, and you'll end up with this book! From the beginning the author lets you know that Daniela is 'the bad one' and her older sister is now the local cop (the 'good one"), and that leaves 2 more sisters. And even though Auryn is soon found dead, how she came to be in a flood house, and the whereabouts of the elder sister are a mystery. Through trying to figure out what happened to Auryn, Daniela opens up secrets the family knew about, and didn't. Unfortunately those secrets have one sister dead, and 2 more may be next. The book has a slow start, but if you stay with it, you'll find that it has it's own pace, that gets under your skin and keeps you turning the pages!

Daniela Cain returns to her hometown after being away for several years, only to find that it's been flooded. The village is almost deserted. Daniela has come back hoping to get her share from the sale of the family home. But the house has not been sold and its in a state of disrepair. She decides to have a look inside her old home, but can't get in the front door. When she eventually gets in the house, she finds the body of her sister, Auryn. Daniela tries to find out just what happened to her sister. She uncovers secrets from her childhood. Daniela was one of four sisters.

This story is a bit of a slow burner. The plot is intriguing and that's what kept me reading. A lot of the story is taken up around the flood. I did not like any of the characters and I could not find any real sympathy for Daniela. There are twists and secrets but the ending also let this book down. The story is told through the present and past narratives. This story showed so much more potential. A decent enough read though.

I would like to thank NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and the author Rachel Bennett for my ARC in exchange for an honest review
