Abby Levesque has always followed the rules. When the bill is due, you pay it. Unlike her flighty twin Gabrielle, who seems like everything is carefree and will take care of itself. Until Hudson Quinn, comes knocking looking for his assistant and she's in the wind. Abby has to make a quick decision, take over for her sister and deal with the fallout later.
Hudson wants this deal to go through and the pressure from his father is tremendous. Hiring Gabrielle now feels like the biggest mistake in a long list of transgressions. But he's stuck with his new assistant in Paris as they work on closing the deal.
Abby had dreamed of Paris and it's everything she hoped it would be. As she attempts to keep work moving and getting up to speed she doesn't expect the draw to Hudson. What's not to like about the handsome billionaire who keeps making her heart flutter. But how can you overcome the untruth that started it all.
My first by this author . This was a Great book. Storyline good. Grabbed me from the first page and kept my attention al the way through!
Had al the great qualities of a good read.
So happy I've found a new author to love!
Avery Scott did an amazing job bringing this story to life! The Bad Twin, unlike anything I've read before, sucked me in from the very first chapter. The story centers around Abigail, the good, responsible sister who worries about everything, and her care-free twin Gabrielle. Gabrielle is quite the opposite and has a totally different outlook on life. Through careful planning, Scott puts Abigail in a situation where she must take on the role of her sister, and that's where the story really takes off. The plot becomes so thick, I wonder if Abigail is actually able to pull it off. Then there's her attraction to Hudson.
The twists and turns, the secret that Abby holds from Hudson, gahhh, I couldn't get enough. It was intense and I loved it! Though I could see where most readers would probably like Gabby over her sister, I was more connected with Abby. Her seriousness, the way she handles things...so much like myself.
If you're looking for something that is different from anything out there, The Bad Twin is the story for you. Great writing, a solid plot, and drama at its finest! Five stars all the way.
I chose this book because of the premise. Twins switching places has appealed since The Parent Trap. Avery Scott kept the promise of the premise with The Bad Twin. The story is told in the third person. Pacing is fast and even. She manages to bring the funny, the sexy, and to throw in a little suspense. I appreciated that the hero experienced growth throughout the story as I wasnt fond of him at the beginning. I was thoroughly entertained. 3.5
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
This book was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a full blown novel with lots of character building. Based on the description, I expected something along the lines of Jackie Collins - a fun romantic romp. What I received was a typical Harlequin romance.
That being said, I actually like Harlequin romances - they have their place.
So if you are looking for an easy, romantic read to escape into, this is a good book for you. But if you are ooking for a little more meat in the story, take a pass.
The Bad Twin was an easy read with a good story concept. I really liked that we got to know a lot about Abby and her passion for art. I think it brought a lot to her character. I wish there was more personality to Hudson's character. Both he and Abby have have some similarities with loosing loved ones but I feel as though Hudson's story needed to be drawn out more. I did like the cute romantic scenes between them and I wished there was more.
The pacing of the story was a little inconstant. Some scenes felt to long and others felt to short. Also the characteristics of each person were hot and cold. I didn't know whether to not like a person or to love someone. For example 'the bad twin' is always messing up and when she pops back up in the middle of the book her personality seems pretty horrible but a few pages later she has a fast character switch and you're supposed to now like her.
I really wanted to like this book enough to give it at least a 3 stars but I felt it still needs a few tweaks to bring more life into the story.
I an ARC of this book.
As cute as this book was, I wasn’t loving it. Often, I found myself skimming, out of pure boredom. The book just didn’t hold me in as it should have, considering the twin trope it was playing with. The writing was clean and well-polished, but not interesting.
At the core of my dislike for this book, was the characters. Abby should have really told him the truth the second they were getting closer. She was already in Paris, so realistically what would happen? Especially since at this point, she already fixed her original blunders. She should have known that either way, he would be mad at her, but being mad before they get closer would give her a cleaner situation.
Hudson wasn’t the brightest. The signs were there: the confusion over going to Paris, saying she’s never been when she did before leaving, the name in the passport, etc. He had so many signs that he could have questioned, but instead chose to take her half-baked explanations. People don’t typically switch personalities overnight and go from using your credit card to not even knowing she has one.
I’ll leave this review short. All in all, I didn’t wholly enjoy it and found myself wishing it can hurry up.
This one has romance, humor, and a wonderful setting. The author makes you feel like you are there. I also enjoyed the artistic aspects. I like the buildup between Abby and Hudson. It flows naturally, with sexy scenes as well as friendship. I am not a fan of Gabrielle and think the only lacking thing about the story was in the reveal. I feel like there was a lost opportunity for development between the sisters as their relationship was the one I had trouble with throughout the book.
The author was able to make us fall in love with Paris she was able to show us how artist see Paris and brings it to life. I can feel Paris all over my sense while reading this book. I have been to Paris it reminded me how wonderful it can be, I was pleasantly surprised that the bad twin turn out to be the good twin. The story is quite simple. A mistaken identity that leads to romance. Simple story plot, likeable characters, and Paris. I end up like this book more than i expect. I finish reading it in 1 sitting. Maybe the Paris lures me into its seduction. What a wonderful read.
What I liked:
The writing style
Standalone
HEA
Epilogue
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Loving this twin dynamic! Abby and Gabby are twins who are polar opposites. While Gabby is carefree and bohemian in nature, Abby is the responsible and adult acting of the pair. When a string of bad luck continues for her, Abby finds herself without a job and the bills piling up – bills that were already piled up to begin with. And when she thinks things are going to be somewhat ok with Gabby getting a job, she isn’t surprised when her boss arrives at their doorstep and she has flaked yet again. But when he thinks Abby is Gabby, she is so desperate that she decides to give it a shot to get the job done and the money to save their house and bills. Hudson is already unhappy with Gabby’s work in the office, and when she forgets about their big meeting in Paris, he’s livid. Noting that she’s acting different than typical, he writes it off as a quirk and gets them on a plane. But when Abby, in an attempt to salvage the job without any of Gabby’s help, inadvertently screws up the entire meeting, we wonder if Abby will be able to recover the job. In the process, Abby and Hudson end up developing feelings and a real love for each other, but the risk of him finding out who Abby really is might blow everything. The premise of this storyline is different than most, and it’s what attracted me to this story and per usual, Avery did not disappoint! I would love to see if we get a book from Gabby in the future and see if she eventually outgrows her carefree ways.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A twin romance with mistaken identity and forced proximity.
Remember the joke in Jude Devereaux's earlier books that the hero/heroine should "marry the one who can tell the twins apart"? Our hero here, Hudson Quinn, fails that test.
He hires a drunken--but HOT!--Gabby Levesque after she stumbles out of club one night and saves his butt on a phone call by speaking French.* Gabby isn't exactly the most reliable of employees, however, and when it comes time for her to accompany Hudson to An Important Meeting in Paris, he has to drag her out of her home for the flight.
Only it's not Gabby he hustles into his limo. It's her meek twin sister Abby, who is more reliable but less competent. She's an artist, see? So she's good with colors rather than Suits, which is also why she's also on the verge of losing her grandmother's house unless she can successfully save her sister's job so that her bonus tied to An Important Meeting in Paris won't be lost.*
It's a tale as old as time. A wealthy handsome rich dude who struggles to keep it in his pants suddenly decides that this very hot assistant is the one he won't sleep with because he needs to stop disappointing his father (as he's done ever since he inadvertently caused his older brother's death). And the very hot assistant--who doesn't know she's hot because why would you*--manages to overcome her general incompetence with optimism* and people skills and a spending spree on clothes.
Look, for all the snark and bother, the fact is, this just wasn't my book. I don't believe I've read anything by Avery Scott--and I will likely avoid her work in the future--but she's published a number of books, so she has an audience who will likely eat this up. I found the characters flat--this might be the first time I found both the hero and heroine insipid--and that negatively impacted how much leeway I gave to the rest of the plot.
Something nice: for as much as I wasn't on board with most of the book, I actually did like the way the story resolves. It's still a bit fantastic, but it makes sense that the characters I met in the first chapters end up this way.
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in order to facilitate this review.
*Look, suspension of disbelief is a necessary thing in romance.
The Bad Twin by Avery Scott was an enjoyable book to read. It had a nice mix of travel, chemistry and a nice love story. The characters were well defined, the story line was well written, and it had a nice smooth flow. I read this book quickly and enjoyed it. I highly recommend it. This author did an exceptional job and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
4.5 STARS
This book is told in third person which is rare for me to read. When I first opened this book I was unsure if I would be able to finish it. I’m used to first person point of view so I was skeptical but I promise, don’t let that deter you from reading this. This was my first time reading Avery Scott and I loved this book so much that I was glued to the pages. I had to see what would happen next. I even woke up at 4am and opened the book and read for 2 more hours to finish it. I couldn’t get enough. The author is detailed and descriptive. She tells a story that had depth and layers to it. As soon as I finished this book, I instantly downloaded another one by this author. You’ll love her writing that much!
Abby and Hudson are magical together and this story is absolutely one you’ll want to read.
Living in Brooklyn and barely able to pay the bills, Abby Levesque is down on all hope after being “released” from her job at RSL. Having her identical twin sister, Gabrielle, who doesn’t keep up her end of the bargain, doesn’t make it easier when Abby is trying to make ends meet and keep a roof over their heads. Abby is nothing like her sister who parties her way through life without a care in the world. She’s determined and cares, more than she can say for her twin. Abby loves art and thrives on losing herself in the pieces she paints and observes. She’s an internal fortress of responsibility and self-respect where her sister thrives on the attention of the male species and uses her good looks and killer body to have rich men eating out of the palm of her hand.
When billionaire Hudson Pierce meets Gabrielle at the opening of a new bar, he’s instantly drawn to the woman who speaks fluent French. After all, she’s come to his rescue when he needed her help and what better way to repay her than offering her a job. With Quinn Holding’s on the verge of the biggest deal of their career, Hudson is headed to Paris to pitch the account his father has invested all his pride into. Hudson’s new assistant has prepared for this meeting, so when he shows up at her door so they can catch their flight, he’s surprised to see she’s not even ready. Abby is startled by the rich man standing on her doorstep insisting that she go to Paris with him. But knowing that her sister has skipped town on an impromptu vacation, Abby has no choice but to take on the identity of her twin. She has bills to pay and her house is on the line. She’s afraid to trick Hudson but she’s left with no other choice.
As Hudson prepares for his big presentation, he’s shocked to find his newest personal assistant is struggling to do what she’s supposed to. Abby is feeling overwhelmed, but she keeps pushing ahead. As the tension between her and Hudson grows, so do these strange feelings of something more. But what happens as the days pass and these two develop something neither one of them was prepared for? After all, when Hudson first met Gabrielle, he thought she was just another surface-level woman he could end up having a fling with. But this new version of “Gabrielle” is nothing like the woman he’s worked the last month with. This woman is classy, smart, and has a beauty to her that is oozing from her soul.
The chemistry was scorching hot and the feels were at an all-time high. Witnessing these two falling in love was simply breathtaking.
Really enjoyed these characters and this plot.
The Bad Twin has it all - a great love, piping hot chemistry, genuine characters, glorious writing, unique storyline, and all the feels! Avery Scott strikes romantic gold once again. Five stars aren’t enough for how fantastic this story really is. Definitely be reading this book again and again and again in the future. It’s one of them books that will be like reading it for the first time every time you pick it up. It’s a auto-buy for me. Happy reading!!
This is my first time reading author Avery Scott, but it won’t be the last. I enjoyed this book, with the humour in the mistaken identity & the angst of keeping up the charade & the sadness of the loss of love & possibly a cherished home. The sparks flying between Gabrielle (Abby) & Hudson were definitely going to ignite sooner or later & when they did we weren’t disappointed. This story had a sweet side to it coming from such a hardcore workaholic as Hudson, when he decides to make sure that Gabrielle (Abby) has the experience of a life time before they leave Paris. I enjoyed the descriptive scenes of Paris that author Avery Scott gave us, they made you feel like you were really there. I’m hoping that there will be a book for Gabrielle soon.
The blurb drew me in and I couldn't wait to read this, but it was a bit of a let down for me. I thought the story was okay, but I didn't really like the characters. Abby is the reliable, good girl twin, while her sister Gabby is jump in with both feet, and to hell with the consquences. Totally selfish. So when Gabby's boss Hunter comes to the house to pick up, and she's not there, Abby makes the decision to take her sister place. I didn't like Hunter, the way he treated and talked to her was horrible. I kept hoping I would warm up to him but nope I didn't.
I received this book from Netgalley!
The Bad Twin by Avery Scott is the story of Abby Levesque and Hudson Quinn.
Abby has a twin sister Gabby, they look identical but their personalities are totally different. Gabby is the carefree, flaky women who seems to get herself into messes and is flighty. Abby is the sensible one that is the opposite but she also the one that cleans up Gabby situation / message. Abby is now dealing with her own issues of finding a job and get the bills paid when Gabby's new boss mistakes Abby for Gabby. Abby goes into clean up mode and ends up in a business trip to Paris. Hudson is trying to close a very important deal and he needs his assistant, but what he doesn't need is the attraction and feelings they he is now feeling for her.
Cute and easy read.
Well, the title description definitely got my attention. And maybe it is just my mind in the gutter, but I assumed that the twins were male. But no, having been born two minutes before her sister, Abby has always been the older sister. The responsible one. Whereas Gabrielle seems to have all the carefree fun. So when Abby suddenly loses her job and they are in danger of losing their grandmother's house, it all comes down to Gabriele to keep her job as a PA to some business man. Said business man is currently running downstairs at their home with Gabriele nowhere in sight. Hudson Quin has a right deadline to meet the people of his latest deal in Paris. So he doesn't have time to get his French speaking PA.
Despite regretting to have hired Gabrielle, he really reeds her as an interpreter. So,when she's looking all confused, he just hails her into his limo to the airport...
Abby realizes that Gabrielle's hot-as-hell-bass doesn't know she is Gabby's twin .So,to ensure Gabrielle
can keep her job, Abby decides to stand in for her sister. How hard can it be? But when Abby accidentally blows up the deal, Hudson knows he has disappointed his father yet again.
And although he had already doubts about Gabriele upon hiring her, he really doesn't understand her current behavior. When she manages to salwage the damage on the business deal and they are thrown together to prepare a new presentation, Hudson learns there is a lot more to Gabrielle than he originally thought.
Abby is having difficulties with her growing attraction to her boss (actually Gabrielle's boss). She realizes
she has to come clean, but she's afraid to lose the man behind the suit and the business. Of course there are some unexpected twist and tums to ensure a good story and a HEA. Four out of fire stars from me and
a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It started out kind of slow, but eventually picked up.
The Bad Twin brings us Hudson and Abagail story. They meet after Gabrielle, Abby twin sister dissappears and she is forced to take her place.
The twists and turns, the secret that Abby holds from Hudson, gahhh, I couldn't get enough. It was intense and I loved it!
Looking forward to reading more from this author!
