Gorgeous illustrations surrounding beautiful poetry and stories. Absolutely loved it. The kind of book I like to read to my kiddos.
I loved this vibrant book of children's poetry! The pages come alive as the seasons begin to change, and the imagery pairs wonderfully with each line. Beautiful illustrations and excellently composed poems. I really loved how at the end of the book it shows the full poems from where the exerts were pulled from and a thumbnail of the illustration used to convey that poem. Great book!
Ivy in bloom by Vanita Oelschlager.
A lovely little children's book about spring summer winter and autumn. Lovely pictures too. Good for little ones. 5*.
Ivy in Bloom is a sweet little poem about the coming of spring. Many lines are taken from other poets and writers, with original lines from the author and weaved together to make the poem come to life. Filled with colorful illustrations of the little girl Ivy as she waits and welcomes Spring.
At the back of the book the author has included the pieces in which they have sampled the lines from.
A very sweet and quick read.
I am too old for this book but this book took me back to my childhood and reminded me of the books, I used to read when I was in Kindergarten. And as a young adult, I still love books for children. It reminds me of the child inside me so I thought of giving this book a try!
I liked the book. What stands out about this book is its adaptative lines from the poems of Dickinson, Longfellow, Browning, Wordsworth, Frost and others. This book is a small poem for kids and I totally recommend it! The illustrations are so adorable and anyone can read this book! It was quite refreshing from the hectic reads I have been having for the past couple of weeks. So, if you are trying to get your child into reading, I suggest this!
I love poetry for children. This is a wonderful collection of poetry for children of many ages. In my opinion, this should be a staple in every classroom so that children are exposed to verses, poems, and novels in verse as well. My classroom has a poetry unit during which students pick their favorite poems and share, and this is definitely one of the books I will use to guide my students and show them examples.
Ivy in Bloom is a beautiful book, the poetical approach was brilliant as is the awesome illustrations. I loved the additional information provided in the back about how the illustrations were made. One misgiving though is the bibliography, I wasn't sure why it was added.
What a sweet and interesting way Toni traduce classic poetry to children. This story is created by using excerpts of poems from a few different poets. Dickinson, browning and frost to amen a few. The story of a young girl named Ivy who has grown tired of the winter. Beautiful words to depict her journey to spring.
The way the story flowed was beautiful and the images were stunning. I would love to see more books written in this fashion.
I tried to download this book on my kindle, iPad, phone, and laptop and each device gave me a licencing error. So, my review is based on the cover art and description. This looks like a lovely book, and a great one to read in anticipation of warmer weather.
Was looking forrward to reading this but could not review. Says there was a license error. Tried it on my phone and computer so I know its a Netgalley error. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review.
"Ivy in Bloom" by Vanita Oelschlager is a beautiful book of waiting for Spring during the Winter and then enjoying the wonderful weather once it arrives.
What is unique about this children's picture book is that Ms. Oelschlager utilizes classic works of poetry pieced together into a cohesive story. If you didn't read the final two pages of the book, you wouldn't even realize it. The book has a beautiful message that is inspiring for young people to read books and poetry more and more.
What a lovely treasure!
I received this eBook free of charge from VanitaBooks, LLC via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did not receive any fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
This is a charming book of poetry that will introduce your kids to the masters: Dickinson, Frost, Longfellow, etc. The illustrations are just lovely--in fact it's the cover art that drew me to this book in the first place. At parts I was too busy looking at the drawings rather than reading the poetry.
Although this is technically a children's book, I think many adults will find value in it as well. I know I can certainly relate to being ready for the spring after a long winter! The poems are presented in short excerpts, which is suitable for a younger audience, rather than the full works that would be present in adult anthology.
I also appreciate that there's a little bit about each of the poets for each verse included as well. If you're looking for a book to ease your child into some of poetry's greats, this is a wonderful opportunity to do so!
I did not like this book. It felt rather gloomy when I opened the first pages. The illustrations were too dark and simply not appealing.
A perfect book to start children in the magical universe of the classics.
A well-dosed blend of poetry, delicacy, soft and light graphics, where a literary puzzle ends up forming a unique story about spring love and all its colors.
I loved it too much to accompany Ivy and her yearning for the most flowery and cute season of the year.
Actual rating: 3.5/5 stars. eBook provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was an adorable children's poetry book that borrows pieces of poems by classic poets and writers. The illustrations are beautiful and the guide in the back as to where the snippets of poems originally come from is super helpful, but I wish the story about Ivy flowed better. Some of the snippets of classic poetry seemed a bit shoehorned in.
What a delightful way to introduce children to some of the great poets of the past! With beautiful illustrations, Ivy in Bloom, make spring come alive. The idea of this poem is unique and I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed that some of the proceeds of this book go to charity.. Excellent!
Thank you to Netgalley for the ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is pretty much a children's book of poetry with beautiful artwork. A great book to get children interested in reading poetry or loving art. This was a fabulous little book.
I found the drawings to be really nice and I liked the way it complemented the poems. I enjoyed reading this book, and I think it's a nice way to show poetry to children and start making them interested on it. I liked that by the end of it there were references to each poem and who it belonged to, so it can be easier to search for their other works and it can also be a tool for literature teachers to make the children explore those author’s backgrounds and the references they put in their writing. I think it’s a good present for a kid who wants to start reading on their own.
I could not open this book on any device despite reading the device guide. I could not find any other way to give feedback.
Ivy in Bloom contains the thoughts of a child wishing to exchange the cold winter weather outside for spring. I enjoyed the colorful illustrations and beautiful poetry.
