I had some trouble getting into this, but once I did it was a fun read. I can feel the author's roots in YA, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and the book flows well/was very readable. Overall, it's an enjoyable book to curl up with alongside a mug of hot chocolate.

Clear your schedule, grab some tissues and get ready to stay up all night finishing this book. How would you live your life differently if you flashed forward and saw that your future was not at all what you expected? Knowing where Dannie ends up made a million questions race through my mind as I was reading, waiting for the puzzle pieces to fall into place. The character development of Dannie & Bella was good but I do wish there was more with Aaron/Greg. Though you think you know the ending of the book, given the flash forward scene, but I appreciate that Serle doesn't tie up the story in a neat little bow. Life is a little messy and nothing ever goes as planned and the same goes with this ending. I do love The Dinner List more, but if you enjoyed that book, you'll also enjoy getting lost in the world of Dannie.

Rebecca Serle is effortless. Her writing is both simple and poetic. I found it actually impossible to stop reading, which is nearly impossible with a 2 and 4 year old by my side.

“What are the odds?” “In a city of nine million? Less than zero.”

As always, I suggest judging a book by its beautiful cover and not reading the blurb. I’d like that to become a thing. In Five Years is a love story for the ages. I fell in love, for example, with every character. I laughed, I cried and I’ll recommend it to every one of my girlfriends.

Oh. My. GOSH.

This might have been one of the most moving, amazing books I have ever read.

A full 12 hours and a good night sleep after I finished it (in one sitting, might I add), I'm still thinking about it. Dannie, a woman with drive, ambition and a go-getter, gets a new job at her dream firm and engaged in the same night. But that night she has a dream about a man (NOT her current fiance!) and an intimate, close, loving relationship. She sees the apartment, the date (5 years from now) and knows she loves the man...But then she wakes up, shaken, but goes on with her life. What follows are twists no one sees coming and such a beautifully moving story.

5 stars. Seriously. Just read it. So. Good.

After reading The Dinner List and absolutely lovingggg it I was so excited to see that Rebecca has a new book coming out!

This book was just as good as The Dinner List! If you like a book that packs the punch, than this is that book!
Her books are always filled with so much depth and this book was no different. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to rip some of the characters hair out. Every emotion possible was had while reading this book.

I also really liked that it was such a quick read! The book length was just the right size for how much depth was packed into every page.

Can I just say I have mixed feelings?
Not because I didn’t love the story but because I’m not sure I agree with the ending.

What a heartbreaking and beautiful story! In Five Years brought out so many emotions in me.

The novel is a story of two best friends, their friendship and the love, loss and hope they experienced.

From the first moment I opened this book, I knew I wouldn't be able to put it away for any reason. It's one of those books that demand your attention. This story spoke to me in so many ways. As I said earlier, it made me feel all types of emotions.

The characters:

We have Bella, a free spirit girl who had absentee parents growing up. As a rich girl, life has brought her everything she wanted except love; Love from her parents or love from a significant other. Yet, Bella falls in love easily. Bella is a good person and a good friend with a good heart.

Then, we have Dannie Kohan who is a woman with her feet well planted on the earth. She's all about numbers and she loves her job as a lawyer. When the book begins she’s getting ready for an interview with a new firm but she also suspects her boyfriend, David Rosen is about to propose. Dannie is happy with her life and her five-year plan. Then a dream happens. A very real dream where she wakes up five years into the future, in a different home, in Brooklyn, with a ring on her finger and with a different man. A man named Aaron Gregory. The dream shakes her to her core.

Years later, Dannie meets the man of her vivid dream and she tries to stay away from him but fate or her destiny has other plans for her.

In Five Years had an amazing writing and a well-developed storyline that I won’t easily forget.

Cliffhanger: No

Wow. This was the first 5 star read of the year for me. Rebecca Serle caught every emotion of mine along the way. I love how she even kept a few secrets from us as readers and built a romance into a story about self discovery. It’s real. It’s life and now I have to go buy another box of tissues.

I thought this was going to be a chick-lit/romantic comedy- so I was surprised to find that it was in its core, a story about friendship. I devoured this novel in one day! I absolutely loved this novel! We wish we could have included this one in our subscription box. Grab your tissues!

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle #jaylammreviews

After reading Serle's last novel, The Dinner List, I couldn't wait to get my hands on In Five Years. The plot is so intriguing.

On the night Dannie gets engaged to her long time boyfriend David, she falls asleep blissfully happy. When she wakes up, 5 years have passed and she is in a new apartment, with a different man. This only lasts a short period of time because when she wakes up again, she is back where she started. This certainly send shock waves through Dannie, but she moves on with her life, until she meets this same man 4 years later.

This book was not what I expected. I was certain things were going to go one way and then absolutely did not. This is really a story of friendship and choosing the right path for yourself even when its the difficult path. I was really blown away buy the emotions this story evoked, I was a puddle of tears at the end.

Definitely a must read! I would love to chat if you have read this one!

Out March 10th 2020.

What a wonderful story. Dannie has a five year plan all laid out. She will have her dream job with the best law firm, she will marry her boyfriend/ fiancé, have a home on a park in New York. Well some plans just don’t work the way you expect. Dannie does have a dream about a guy that she meets in five years. The man in the dreams is not just a guy but her best friends boyfriend. The book is about best friends, love, loss, the best of times and the worst. The book left me in tears. It was an enjoyable romance/girly book. I have lived in NYC and I loved how the author made feel like you were were in the city and I could imagine the restaurants and the neighborhoods.

I would like to thank NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. It is a joy to read. #Infiveyears #Netgalley

I began this book thinking it was a heterosexual romance love story. Yes, it does have some romance.

But this story was a completely different love story- one between two best friends.

Dannie and Bella have been friends since they were children. Dannie always thinking she had to look out for Bella given her often absent parents. As the book begins, they are in their late 20s and trying to navigate jobs, love, and their lives.

One night, Dannie has a vivid dream about a man who isn't her financé..... but turns out to be Bella's boyfriend.

This book fast forwards 5 years- what happens when Dannie and this mysterious man meet?
What will happen to their friendship?
Will Dannie always look out for Bella?

By the end of this book, I was reduced to a sobbing mess- caused by both heartbreak and joy.
It's been quite some time since I've given a book 5 stars, but this one surely deserves it.

Now excuse me while I go call my best friend.

Lawyer Dannie Cohan knows exactly where she'll be in five years - until on the night of her engagement to her perfect boyfriend David. In her post-engagement bliss, she has a vision of herself in five years engaged to someone else. She doesn't think much of it, though she continually puts off her wedding. Until years later when she meets the same man, dating her best friend.

From the synopsis, I thought In Five Years would be a light-hearted romantic comedy, something quick and easy, perfect for vacation. Serle starts off light but then surprises you with a serious turn about halfway through. Beach read goes out the window and thought-provoking steps in. I felt compelled to know if the vision came true and surprised at how well Serle countered my expectations.

Last year, I read her first book, The Dinner List, and felt it was rather self-indulgent. While I still think her writing could use some work, I was extremely impressed with the progress she has made with In Five Years. I can't wait to read whatever she writes next.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. Ugh! This book was so good! Dannie’s life is working out just as planned - her job, her new fiancé, her apartment. One night she dreams about her life 5 years in the future but it doesn’t include her fiancé or her apartment. Was this all a dream or what is to become? From the author of The Dinner List! Loved, loved! #infiveyears #rebeccaserle #march2020

“You mistake love. You think it has to have a future in order to matter, but it doesn't. It's the only thing that does not need to become at all. It matters only in so far as it exists. Here. Now. Love doesn't require a future.”
- Rebecca Serle, In Five Years

When I discovered In Five Years on my bookstagram feed, I instantly fell in love with the cover. The book hasn't even been published yet, but a LOT OF PEOPLE were already talking about it, so I had to know what the hype was about! Thanks to the publisher for sending me an e-arc in exchange of an honest review. 💞 I finished reading the book in one sitting ~ it was THAT good. 4.5/5🌟 from me! I was kinda disappointed with how the book ended, so it missed my 5 star rating. 😬
I thought this book would be a sweet love story, but it turned out to be so, so much more. Instead of just being a book about the romantic side of love, In Five Years focuses on the beauty of love that can be bought into our lives through friendship. This is the first book that I've read by Rebecca Serle and I'm so impressed. Her powerful words and thoughts which got expressed through In Five Years will definitely leave a long-lasting impact in readers' minds, including mine.
The main character, Dannie's life was so intricately crafted! I felt like I was looking at her soul through a window hidden among the pages of the book. Her relationship with her best friend, Bella was so heart-warming and beautiful. The conversations that they had with each other made me feel all kinds of emotions. I was a sobbing mess by the end of the book, and I've to blame their friendship for that. 😭 Bella and Dannie's story made me realize that if you have a real friend by your side, they'll truly bring out the best version of yourself.
I really admired how the author didn't sugar-coat the situations that Dannie faced and kept everything so realistic, even though she (magically?) got to see a day from her future in a dream. There was a touch of mystery in the book too and I was dying to know how the story unfolded. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending, you'll know why when you read the book.. 😅
I have been obsessed with adult novels lately, instead of reading YA. In Five Years made me fall in love with the genre even more.

This novel got wayyyyy under my skin. It was one of those rare reads that when you finish it you find yourself sitting very still, quietly staring off into space as you try to absorb everything you just read. It's the type of novel that makes you dive into the writer's backlist and when you investigate and there aren't yet 20 kajillion books to read you're disappointed because all you want is more of that reader's high that you had when you put down In Five Years. It's a novel that you feel like you saw "it" coming and even if you did, you weren't quite prepared for how the emotions of it all completely mowed you down. It's a novel that has a really maddening main character --one you find kinda annoying and kinda endearing all at the same time (you hate that you get her, but you totally get her and hope to somehow avoid some of the pitfalls she fell into). It's a novel that may make you snotty cry or maybe just get that one single tear--but the relief of that release and the ending of the novel all just work.

It's a novel that hangs over you a full day after you've read it, keeping you a fog--head full of everything and nothing. It's a novel that I'll definitely put on my shelf ...a novel that I'm already talking up to anyone I think will listen.

What if our biggest loves stories are our friendships?

That's the question In Five Years attempts to answer.

Dannie and Bella have been best friends since childhood. They've survived childhood trauma, loss, college, relationships and career changes all while remaining the most important person in the other's life. So when Dannie has a strange prophetic glimpse of herself in the near future and sees she's in a sexual relationship with Bella's boyfriend, things get weird.

In Five Years was heartbreaking, enticing, and kept me reading to the last page.

Dannie has big dreams for her life and has set a timeline for how she wants her life to go. This includes her career, her life, and her future husband. One day, she has a dream that she is living a different life with a different man by her side. Five years pass, and she meets the man and he is the love of her best friend in the world. This book is extremely well written and really takes you on a journey through love, a relationship, friendship, and the many aspects that we all experience of our lives. I found this book to be greatly unexpected, but in the best possible way. I will be recommending this book to others and just hope that they enjoy this one as much as I did. Thanks for the ARC, Net Galley. This was truly an amazing read.

This fast paced novel was an emotional roller coaster. I was sad to see the story end, but hopeful for Dannie's future.

Dannie & David are compatible. So compatible they have finally gotten engaged after 2/12 years together, but not in a rush to get married since they are still on their career fast-tracks.

Dannie gets a glimpse of her future, 5 years to the day of her engagement to David, and it's not David she's with. She can't bring herself to even tell her BFF Bella about it.

Four and a half years later, she and David are still together, not planning the wedding, when Dannie meets the man from her dream.

A book I will long remember.

What do I even say, I’m in tears. This book has brought tears to my eyes. I’m embarrassed because I’m full on crying from a book I just finished. I’m speechless from all the emotions I have going through me right now.
In Five Years will have you fully invested. You will not put this book down, you will not keep yourself from crying, you will be emotionally invested to this book, and you will use a whole box of tissues.

You pick this book up thinking your about to read a love story between a couple. You think it’s just another love story. It’s not just your ordinary love story, it’s so much more. You think you know how this book will end, but you don’t.

I only wish the part about how Dannie has her dream/premonition was something more dramatic. Along the lines of her hitting her head, something falling on her head, something more. Not falling asleep from to much champagne.

I loved this book! Danni and David had their whole lives planned out. Both very career-driven, both seemingly on the same page...until the night David proposes and Danni has a strange, very realistic experience/dream(??) which causes her to maybe second guess her perfectly planned out life. Danni's best friend, Bella, is just the opposite of Danni. Having been friends since childhood, they share everything with each other. But Bella is a free spirit, traveling to exotic places, meeting interesting people, never settling down...until she meets Greg/Aaron. She falls madly in love and her life changes. When Danni meets Greg/Aaron, she wants so badly to approve but she is confused by the events of her "dream".

I absolutely loved the relationship that Danni and Bella had. The author brilliantly depicted a love and friendship that any woman would covet. I could not get enough of their interactions, especially towards the end of the book. I would read this book again and again.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
