I'm...conflicted...
Without giving anything away there is one major part of this book that I'm really not too happy about.
The book seems to be about a girl who has her whole 5-year plan mapped out to perfection. She wakes up in 5 years however, with a life that is nothing like what she expected. From that little description, I was getting some "13 Going on 30"/ love triangle rom-com vibes, but I was completely wrong.
I loved the writing and I hope to read The Dinner List by this author because of it. Nonetheless, the man in her 'dream' just totally made me uncomfortable (you'll see why at about 10% in) and I really didn't love the main character.
The ending, though, was great, and Bella and Dannie's friendship was beautiful. The story's focus on life, loss, and love is much more powerful than I was expecting.
Also loved the Philly/Jersey Shore references (B & D went to Harriton HS, grew up on the Main Line, and went to Mac N Manco's pizza & Sac 'o Subs down the shore) !

I liked the set up of Serle's latest novel with Danny having a dream about essentially turning her life upside down in 5 years and loving a different man. However, I did not like the resolution in the least!

I loved In Five Years! Couldn’t wait to share my thoughts on it with a fellow bookseller who shares my love of contemporary women’s fiction.
Such a great concept, the ‘vision’ of her future self, in five years, and doing all she can to prevent it coming to pass. I laughed and cried my eyes out and completely connected with the characters. Can’t wait for it to be published so I can share with my like minded customers.

3,5 - 4 stars
This started well , it has a great premise and I was intrigued to see how this will go!I find it unique and brilliant and I was expected to find an emotional read but for me it wasn't!I still loved it and I find myself hooked but I didn't love it as much as I wannted!
This is about love and friendship, I have to say that the main heroine was ok for me, I couldn't connect with her so I couldn't empathise her either.
Overall, it was a great read if you are looking for something refreshing then you definitely has to read this one!

Dannie has just gotten engaged to the love of her life, she is sure to get the perfect job she interviewed for, and nothing can go wrong. The night of her engagement however, she has a dream. It doesn’t feel like a dream though. It feels real. It’s five years in the future, and she is in a strange apartment, with a different man, and a different ring on her finger. When she awakens she tries to forget the dream, but a few years later, Dannie and David still havent gotten married, and that man from the dream comes walking into her life.
4.5 stars! I really enjoyed this book. I would compare it to a mix between You Were There Too and One Day In December, both of which I loved. I loved the friendship between Dannie and Bella, and that Bella wasn’t afraid to push Dannie on certain issues. I don’t want to dive too deep and give spoilers, so I will just say that I really loved this book.

Thank you to Net Galley and Atria Books for an advance of this title in exchange for my honest review. The publisher sang the praises of In Five Years so eloquently, I had to read it. I wasn't disappointed. This book went in directions I hadn't expected. The plot is super clever so there are extra gold stars for that, in this time of recycled plotlines and series books. I love a book about the beauty of friendship, love, and all the things in between. This is a book everyone will be talking about. I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. Dannie thinks she knows exactly how her life will look in five years, but then she has a premonition and wakes up in the future. Even though everything seems to be going to plan, five years in the future she still can't stop thinking about that day and the clock keeps ticking toward that date.
Dannie and Bella- oh what can I even say, such an amazing friendship. I was not expecting what happened to happen. I don't want to give things away, but omg it broke my heart.
I wasn't expecting this book to end the way it did, but I really liked it. I think knowing that Dannie will be going on to discover more about herself and knowing that the future isn't always determined and doesn't always turn out the way we planned.

Interesting story, but with an improbable ending; the emotions seem unreal and contradictory.
The beginning of the book was intriguing and read well, but disappointing at the end, and the emotions a bit improbable, as I saw it.

5 enormous stars!!! In Five Years had me from the very first page and if I’m being honest, I never wanted it end! I loved the entire premise of this novel—so incredibly original! This addictive read combines several genres (women’s fiction, romance, and a touch of mystery) to create an extremely compelling storyline! Rebecca Serle does a fantastic job with the characters development and the pacing was absolutely perfect! I literally did not put my kindle from start to finish because it’s just that good! In Five Years is a 5++++ star novel that I highly recommend! Most definitely on my 2020 favorites list!

It’s been awhile for me since I’ve been able to say I had a book hangover. I keep seeing In Five Years by Rebecca Serle on IG and had it marked down in my journal as a “must buy in March.”
I was so honored the other day when Atria emailed me and asked if I would like to review it.
This book gave me a book hangover, and has all the emotions and story a phenomenal book has. At the heart are Dannie and Bella, best friends since their childhood, each with family drama in their own way.
Dannie has her entire life planned out with her boyfriend David. Bella is a more whimsical free-spirited soul. Their friendship is tested in an epic way. Their journey is an unforgettable one. I want to say so much about this book but you truly need to go in blind. You’ll experience the raw emotions the best that way.
Easily 5 stars for me.

I read a lot of books, like sometimes several a week, and much of the time because of that I have to push through them when I find them able to not hold my attention. In Five Years was the exact opposite. I read it in one day, every chance I got to get into the pages I was reaching for this book because I had to know what happened. This was a beautiful contemporary love story that was both modern but had a classic feel about it. It will pull at the heartstrings (both happy and sad tears were shed), but it will leave you feeling fulfilled. I thought it was going to be an entirely different book than it was, but I was grateful I was wrong because I never could have imagined the story any better than it turned out.

Rebecca Serle crafts a narrative with a very unique storyline: What would happen if you could see five years into your future, and it looks totally different from what you imagined? I was drawn to this book because of the creativity of this idea, and was glad that it didn't have a predictable ending like I feared.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I had no idea where the book was taking me when I first started reading, but once I understood the premise I couldn't put the book down. This novel is heartbreaking, emotional, and incredible. I couldn't stop crying at the end.
Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced copy of this novel.

Unique title for fans of love stories! Great for book clubs and addition to contemporary fiction collection.

I'm always enjoyed stories where the past and the future get tangled up together, causing consternation and a degree of uncertainty and emotional mayhem. This book certainly satisfied that itch!
The author did an excellent job of keeping the storyline interesting until the very end. I must say I had no inkling of how the story would eventually turn out. Kudos to the author for crafting such a multilayered and engaging novel!

I was not a fan of this book. I just didn't mesh with the writing style. You can't win them all though......

Perfect weekend reading, I didn’t guess where it was going but liked it for its cinematic potential and writing style. A bit of a modern
fairytale with a sad twist.

Dannie Kohan likes planning and organizing. She knows her goals and how/when to achieve them. When asked, at a job interview, where she sees herself in five years, Dannie answers with no hesitation. When her boyfriend (not so) unexpectedly proposes later that same evening after her interview, Dannie falls asleep knowing her life plans are on track.
But when Dannie wakes up, she's in a different apartment, with a different man. She glimpses a television report and realizes she's exactly five years in the future and her life doesn't look at all like how she imagined it would. After an intense, and let's face it life-altering, hour Dannie wakes up to her normal life.
The next four and a half years pass with Dannie's life plan still holding strong, but she can't seem to shake that dream. Was it a dream? Or some kind of premonition?
Dannie's perfectly planned life is further thrown when she meets the man from dreamontion (just made that word up) in the most unexpected way. And what precipitates will push Dannie's life off course, for the better? For the worse? You'll have to read to find out.
I fell headlong into this book. Once I started it was like a compulsion that I had to consume it as quickly as possible. As Rebecca Serle did with her wonderful [book:The Dinner List|36399096], In Five Years is not as straight-forward as it's book blurb might make it sound. It was completely unexpected, but so thoughtfully written. The idea of Dannie dreaming about this other man, this other person that she's (possibly) supposed to be with in the future, is a great hook, but it's only a smidgen of what this story really deals with. Don't fret, it's still a love story fully and completely full of both joy and heartbreak (and I say this, have the tissues handy for sure).
Typically when I receive an ARC for review, I hold off until closer to release to read, but I just couldn't wait with In Five Years which makes me delightfully happy yet also I fell like writing this review is incredibly difficult because I felt like my emotional journey with this story predisposes going in without knowing the full extent of what, as a reader, you're getting into.
So I'll try my hardest to remain as vague as possible, but also share my thoughts as true as possible.
Mainly, I love the idea - and it's something Rebecca Serle also played with in The Dinner List - about these inexplicable experiences happening. Are they real? A figment of imagination? Dreams? The ambiguity of what Dannie really experienced. It lends itself so well when discussing fate and love and "meant to be" scenarios. Does what Dannie saw influence her actions therefore bringing it to fruition, or is she actually seeing the future as it will play out?
Regardless, I loved how seemingly and unassumingly Rebecca Serle circles back to Dannie's dreamonition (see did it again!). How we eventually figure out how meet or skew Dannie's (and reader's) expectations of the future.
I've already been seeing/hearing a lot about this book, for good reason. I expect as we inch towards publication the buzz will only grow. In Five Years is another stark look at life and love that packs an emotional punch.
Keep your eyes out for this one in March 2020

This book was nothing like I thought it was going to be. From the quick description I read, I thought it was a chick-lit book; a funny, relationship-driven story where the age old question is asked in a job interview: Where do you see yourself in five years?
As Dannie is a lawyer, and newly engaged in December 2020, you imagine where she will be - working hard, married. Living the life in New York. But Dannie has a dream/premonition about December 2025 - five years from the date of her engagement - and the ring on her finger is different, as is the man in her (his?) apartment.
But the journey? The journey to December 2025 is worth reading. How did Dannie get into that apartment, with a different ring on her finger? I for one had no idea what was to come in Dannie's story, and I am so thankful for that. So please, do yourself a favor, fellow readers: do not read any spoilers. Enjoy this book, read every word, turn every page, feel every emotion. It is worthy of your full attention.

I’m a sucker for a story that offers two alternate life paths for a character, and this book did not disappoint! Yes, there’s a love story plot line, but I especially enjoyed the friendship plot line between the main character and Bella. Such a beautiful story!
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
