This book came to me highly recommended and I was so eager to read it! Only to find that I hated everything about it. I didn't like how it started in past and hen jumped to the 5 years later to find all the characters in same spot as before. I thought it super weird that the MC called her BFFs boyfriend by a name he never used in a very familiar way and no one ever called her on it. I hated how this book just obsessively focused on food and fashion descriptions and totally wanted to toss it across room by the end.

This is a short and very enjoyable read. The main character is Dannie Kohan, a woman who has a strict five year plan for her life. When the story begins Dannie is about to get engaged to her boyfriend David, and she couldn't be happier as everything is going according to plan. On the night of the engagement Dannie falls asleep and has a very weird and vivid "dream" that finds her five years in the future. She wakes up in a completely different life to the one she has crafted alongside David. Dannie's new reality lasts an hour and then she's back to her normal life, but now she finds herself questioning all of her carefully crafted plans. And she can't forget Aaron, the man from her "dream" life, and the way he made her feel.
This story trapped me from the very beginning. I found the concept of a "13 Going on 30" time jump into a different reality very entertaining, even if we only get a chapter of Dannie's maybe future life. I enjoyed reading about these characters, and found myself invested in the loving and lasting friendship between Dannie and Bella. I never expected this story to be as deep and moving as it turned out to be, but I have to say I appreciated how the plot developed, especially how the author wrapped up Dannie's story. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC for review in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good story that isn’t about the destination but about the journey, how did we get here? We get to see that in this book and it would have been amazing but the ending wrapped up so quickly that it spoiled the book for me.

I loved 'The Dinner List' so I was really looking forward to reading this one, and it totally gutted me. I was expecting a relatively straightforward romance, though of course, none of Rebecca Serle's work is ever straightforward. As much as I enjoyed the romance aspect of the novel, it was the friendship between Dannie and Bella that made me feel happy and sad and nostalgic and gleeful and regretful and hopeful all at once, and I was left a crying heap at the end.

I inhaled In Five Years and when I say inhaled I mean I could not put this book down because I HAD to know what happens in five years.
We meet Dannie Cohan, a lawyer living and working in New York. Dannie landed an interview with her dream job and nailed the interview. To celebrate her boyfriend takes her out to celebrate and propose- of course she says yes! To say Dannie is having a great day would be an understatement. Dannie goes to bed and wakes up in five years and nothing is remotely how she planned it would be. After the most strange and shocking hour of her life Dannie wakes up, back in 2020 but cannot seem to forget this "premonition".
Dannie puts this premonition to the back of her mind and goes on with life hitting all her major milestones. Her long time/childhood friend Bella falls in love and introduces her to her beau- the guy who was in Dannie's "premonition". Things begin to spiral and Dannie is unable to control and make all her plans a reality.
I had high expectation for this one, not saying that it fell flat, I just did not envision the book going in the direction it went. I love a book where the lead character is a highly ambitious woman dead set on making all her dreams a reality and that's who I wanted to read more about. I was a little taken aback by the direction but I did enjoy how intoxicating the read was.

I was a bit apprehensive about this book as to whether or not I would like it. Well that apprehension left as soon as I started reading. Dannie is a successful, goal oriented lawyer who is recently engaged to her long time boyfriend David. Her life is upended when she has a dream where it is five years in the future and she is in a different apartment with a different fiancé and engagement ring. The dream haunts her as it was so vivid. This book is heartbreaking and wonderful. There is friendship and love and hard choices. Overall I absolutely loved it.

Once I started this book I literally could not stop until I finished it. Characters were realistic and flawed. By setting up this seemingly crazy premonition right from the beginning and writing how it came to unfold, the author had me flipping my electronic pages as fast as I could. Almost went for the coveted 5 stars right after I finished, but after sitting with it for a little, I had issues with how the end came together. Let's say a 4.25.

For Dannie Cohan, December 15th, 2020 was going to be a big day. She was interviewing for a junior position at Wachtell, the top law firming Manhattan. Following the interview, she had a dinner date with her boyfriend, and she had more then a sneaking suspicion that he would be proposing. Life was going exactly as she planned, and Dannie was a planner, down to the minutes of her life. David takes her to the poshest restaurant, The Rainbow Room, and the proposal was everything she hoped for. The evening starts to fall apart when they return to their apartment and Dannie falls asleep, and has an unexpected "vision"/ dream, she's wearing a ring but not the one David gave her, she is not in their apartment in Gramercy Park, and she is not with David. All she knew for certain was the man's name was Aaron and the apartment was a loft in Dumbo, and the date was 2025, exactly % years ahead of the present. This entire episode sat firm with Dannie, to the point where she had to see a therapist...
The story scrolls ahead in time, to four and a half years, when the mysterious gentleman reappears. Then the situation becomes complicated..... when life introduces some unexpected obstacles in Dannie's otherwise orderly life.
As the blurbs say, "In Five Years is an unforgettable love story (not the one you may be expecting), that reminds us of the power of loyalty, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of destiny." I enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend it. Thank you #netgalley for the e-ARC of #infiveyears. @Rebecca_Serle

I did enjoy this book as it did not go in the direction I thought it would but did a full 180 on what I thought. There is finding yourself, friendship, and love in this book. It helped me put in perspective to my own life as well. I will recommend this to my friends and others.

I loved this book! I thought about the characters long after the book ended. Unforgettable story with a lot of touching moments. Definitely a great read. The whole story line is mind bending and definitely a page turner! Such a unique story!! One of a kind!

In Five Years was a well written, page-turning, unexpected love story that will hook you from the very beginning.

I just couldn't get in to Rebecca Serle's The Dinner List, so I was a bit skeptical when I heard about her new book In Five Years. The premise, however, was intriguing enough to pique my interest. Dannie is a super Type-A corporate lawyer with a very firm five year plan: get a job at her dream firm in New York City, marry her boyfriend, buy the perfect apartment. Just as everything looks as if it is going according to plan, Dannie has a vision, a premonition of her life five years in the future and it doesn't look at all like what she expected. Thrown off by what she knows wasn't a dream, she has a hard time committing to her future and then hopes to find a way to make it not come true at all. Dannie's best friend Bella is her pure opposite- carefree and full of spontaneity. They are there for one another through everything.
I loved this book so much that I read most of it in a single afternoon. I will warn you it is a bit of a tear jerker, but if you've been here for a while you know that is a fairly low bar for me. I'm a giant crybaby. This is exactly my favorite kind of love story. I really want to tell you more, but I don't want to ruin it. Read it yourself and I think you'll understand. I hope you love it, too.

On the night of her engagement to David, Dannie falls asleep and "wakes" to find herself 5 years in the future, in a different apartment apparently engaged to a very different man. 4.5 years later she meets the new boyfriend of her best friend who turns out to be the same man as her "dream". Over the next few months she reevaluates hers is a different love story. Read it in one sitting, you'll want to.

Dannie Kohan, a successful Manhattan lawyer lives her life by numbers. From counting to 25 every morning before she opens her eyes to how long before moving in with her boyfriend to planning how long to be engaged before getting married.
She has planned every aspect of her life until one day she has a vivid dream that takes her five years into the future with a different man, in a different apartment and wearing a different ring. Was it a vision, a premonition, time travel?
She carries this “dream” with her in the back of her mind until one day almost five years later she meets the man from her dream. He’s dating her best friend Bella!
This book was a delight to read and it doesn’t take the path you might think it’s going. It’s about love and friendship but not necessarily a romantic one.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Librofm

While it has romantic elements, this is ultimately the story of a lifelong friendship between two women as they face a crisis together. This book is like if Something Borrowed and Me Before You had a baby. A similar tone, a complicated friendship, a love interest. Beautiful, moving, and a really unique start to it that motivates you to keep reading. It's definitely a tear-jerker, but left me feeling content. I will be recommending this book everywhere.

I sit in my favorite writing/reviewing/reading chair wiping my tear drenched cheeks. It’s fine. I’m fine.
This novel was delightful. My expectations going in was that it was a love story sprinkled with female friendship. Mix that Amy....it’s a beautiful story of a female friendship with love sprinkled in. I adored it.
Dannie and Bella were fantastic characters. The character build was so well done. I had time to get to know the characters and I appreciated that so very much. Bring in two incredibly nice men as supporting rolls and it’s a win. Absolute win.
Lots more happens and I will not spoil the story talking about it 😉.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this lovely novel. I will be recommending it for a long time to come ♥️.

Pass Me the Tissues Please!!
Falling asleep on what has been the best day of her life, Dannie couldn’t be happier. Attaining her dream job and getting engaged to David, the perfect fiance all in one day, she is excited about what life holds.
When Dannie wakes up an hour later she finds herself somewhere else completely, with a different man, wearing a completely different ring. The date on the calendar is five years into the future. Falling back asleep, she wakes back up the next day in 2020, with her fiance, David.
The future. Dannie has seen it and nary a moment goes by that she puts “Aaron” out of her mind. Then it happens and she meets him. For real. In that moment, Dannie's mind is blown. Talk about a game-changer.
Every second thereafter, I was on the edge of my seat. Hanging on. Holding on. Holding my breath. Holding back tears.
What can I tell you? “In Five Years” by Rebecca Serle is not what it purports itself to be. It will rip your heart out and leave you in tears. You will be so immersed in these characters and their lives that you will definitely need a hanky or two by the time you finish this novel. It is a story about love, friendship, family, heartache and so much more.
If this book is not on your radar, it should be. If you have not considered reading it before now, you should. “In Five Years” will most definitely appear on my Goodreads Best of List for 2020 and has made me a huge fan of Rebecca Serle, such that I am currently reading her prior novel, “The Dinner List.”
This was an amazing buddy read with Kaceey, which left us both in tears.
A huge thank you to Mimi at Goodreads for the galley, Atria Books and NetGalley for the arc to read and review.
Published on Goodreads on 6.7.20.

I went into this novel thinking it would be similar to "One Day in December" by Josie Silver, and boy was I wrong. I was expecting it to be more of a light contemporary romance, and it did start out that way. Dannie has her entire life mapped out. She has the perfect boyfriend (and soon to be fiance), perfect job, and perfect apartment. Except on the night that all these perfect things finally come to fruition, she goes to be and has a dream that occurs five years in the future, where she is in an apartment and in a relationship with a different man.
Over the next five years, Dannie tries to figure out how she can end up with a different man when she is so happy with her fiance. And while there are some romantic elements, this novel's plot goes from focusing on romance to the ties that Dannie has with her best friend, Bella. This is where I had a bit of a disconnect with the novel. I was not expecting it take this turn, and I didn't really connect with Bella as a character. It also covered from pretty heavy subjects which I wasn't expecting it to.
Overall, it was a quick read, and I would recommend it to people looking for something quick but with some depth.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rebecca Serle, and Atria Books for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dannie lives with her fiance David. He is an investment banker. Dannie is a lawyer. I liked Dannie but I didn't care for the whole living by the numbers thing. Dannies life is going just as planned. Then she feels she's meant for another man and life because of a dream.if she takes the chances people will get hurt. I loved the ending but mixed feelings on some of the actions.

I had read THE DINNER LIST so I was excited to read this book. I really did not care for this book. I finished it because it was short. I could not really relate to it and I did not care for the ending.
