Tara Brach has a way with words and gently brings to light the difficult thoughts and feelings that we deal with on a daily basis. Her approach to radical compassion through the use of RAIN was a well-needed balm for the soul. Brach's tone throughout the book is honest but kind as she persuasive readers to be present in the moment and while holding themselves and others with care, even through the toughest of times. I have followed Tara Brach since her first book and am happy to have received more of her wisdom by reading Radical Compassion, as well. I would recommend this book to others who find difficulty with falling into the habit of being lost in trance.

If you’ve never listen to a podcast Tara Brach, this is the info you would be hearing. A good guide to processing difficult emotions. Thanks to NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for my honest review
Tara Brach is intent on having us give ourselves a break.. Her latest book strives to teach us to treat ourselves with compassion, which is a lot more easily said than done. Brach introduces us to R.A.I.N. This is a four-step mindfulness practice designed to combat what she refers to as The Trance of Unworthiness, that grinding feeling of being inadequate, bad, shameful or any of a myriad of other harsh self-judgments that people harm themselves with.
R is to Recognize that this is happening.
A is to allow it to happen, not fight it away
I is to investigate, to allow yourself to experience the sensations and thoughts with curiosity and without judgment.
N is to nurture, to treat this difficult and vulnerable with compassion.
Easier said than done, of course, but Brach gives us a blueprint for treating ourselves better.
Brach leads the reader through guided meditations and discussions of mindfulness using the RAIN acronym (Recognize Allow Investigate Nurture). Kind, insightful, and calming.
