As a mother, this book tapped into one of my greatest fears! The story moved along at a great pace, and the characters were believable and well developed.
Grace goes missing during a game of hide and seek. 14 years later, her sister Elise insists she has seen her at a shopping centre. Has she? And if it is really her, what happened all those years ago?
I enjoyed this book, though it seemed implausible in places. However, if you take it at face value, it’s a fast paced, well written thriller with interesting characters and a good story.
I guessed ‘whodunnit’ very early on, but it was still worthwhile to read and find out how the pieces fit together.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.
I was soo looking forward to reading this book the story line is good and there is strong characters however the story line left me feeling un funfilled and a little dissapointed I wanted to know the gritty details and felt like everything was just brushed under the carpet at the end
I was gripped straight away by the story. I liked the way you heard about each character's perspective on the event and their feelings about it. I have read all of Gillian Jackson's books. I loved them all. I can't wait to read more in the future.
One of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long time! The characters, storyline, style of writing- all brilliant! I will definitely be reading more from Gillian Jackson!
I enjoyed Abduction by Gillian Jackson. I was hooked within the first few pages. Hide-in-seek is a great game when you're a child. It's Grace's third birthday and she is playing hide-in-seek with her sister Elise, other family and friends who were at Grace's birthday party in their back yard. Suddenly Grace can not be found. She has disappeared in thin air. The Police were called and Grace is not found she vanishes with no clues to her whereabouts..
Where can a Three year old be hiding? Where is she?
However, Fourteen years later, whilst Grace's sister Elise McDonald is in the local department store she is convince she has seen her lost sister Grace. Jack Priestly, is called, he was the Family Liaison Officer who previously worked on the case, is open to the idea. But, Elise's family is very skeptical that it is Grace,
Just when Jack is about to give up, an unlikely coincidence occurs that causes him to look at the case in a new light.
Is it Grace who Elise has seen in the local department store?
Where has she been the last fourteen years?
I recommend this book.

Grace Bryson disappeared after a backyard game of hide-and-seek at her third birthday party. It's as if the girl disappeared into thin air. and the case soon grows cold. Fourteen years later, Grace's sister Elise McDonald is convinced she has seen Grace at a local department store. Elise's family is skeptical, but Jack Priestly, the Family Liaison Officer who had previously worked on the case, is open to the idea. Just when Jack is about to give up, an unlikely coincidence occurs that causes him to look at the case in a new light.
This story is told from multiple points of view. This can sometimes be confusing in a thriller, but in this case, it gives an in depth look into how several of the main characters are feeling about the investigation and events that occurred in the past. I enjoyed the mystery of what happened to Grace and if the girl Elise saw was really her sister after all this time. I became very engrossed in the story and didn't want to put it down because of the building tension over Grace's fate. I guessed part of the truth, but not the motive or other details. I liked how the facts were revealed at the end and I really enjoyed the characters of Jack and Elise. Some of the things that happen at the end are a little too pat, but I still really enjoyed the ending of this entertaining thriller.

Very well done psychological drama surrounding the kidnapping of a three-year old from her birthday party. A chance meeting sets up the cascade of events that follow. Told from several POV, it is well written and flows smoothly. A definite must read!
I’d like to thank Sapere Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Abduction’ by Gillian Jackson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Margaret and Stephen Bryson and nine-year-old Elise are celebrating Grace’s third birthday by throwing a party with family, friends and neighbours. During a game of hide-and-seek in the garden Grace disappears and vanishes without a trace. It isn’t until fourteen years later when Elise is out shopping in the city centre that she sees a young woman who she’s convinced is Grace. Elise’s husband tells her not to raise her hopes but Elise is positive, she just needs to find the proof needed to persuade Detective Sergeant Jack Priestly to re-open the case.
When I read that ‘Abduction’ had originally been written in 2013 I expected it to be a mediocre novel that had been revamped and published for the current market but as I started reading I found it to be a surprisingly good psychological thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed. The plot was well-written with each chapter told from the perspective of the different characters, and as I became more involved in the story I raced through it wanting to discover how Grace had been abducted and why. The final chapter made everything clear and gave a final and fitting ending to this very intriguing novel. I’m very much looking forward to Gillian Jackson’s next one.
An excellent novel with a fascinating depiction of characters. I very much enjoyed this wonderful story and highly recommend it.
I so enjoyed this book very gripping and every parents nightmare its grace 3rd birthday party her big sister Elise is looking after the children playing hide and seek they find all the children . but not grace . there liaison officer is jack . who becomes a big part of this family .Elise is expecting her own child but has never given up her sister is alive then one day out shopping she bumps in to a young woman who she thinks is her sister .she contacts jack for his help will say no more but is a must read once you start you wont want to stop reading so recommend how it all unfolds is brilliant a must read
Starting off with a rather stalker-esque introduction, Elise stumbles across a young teen who looks like her lost sister. She then becomes obsessed with finding out if she is Grace. Abduction then flips to the past where we’re introduced to all the family who are celebrating Grace’s 3rd birthday. And then the day becomes memorable for all the wrong reasons - during a game of hide and seek, Grace vanishes with no clues to her whereabouts. The story provides perspectives from multiple characters (including some of the police officers involved in the case) and it’s a really engaging and interesting read. You want to know what happened on that day. But the mystery, and the case, remains unsolved. Then we’re back to the present (in 2014) where Elise thinks she’s found Grace. Is it really her? And if so, where has she been? I liked that there is a resolution at the end of the story which gives a sense of closure. It’s also not as dark as some thrillers that follow the same storyline, which was refreshing.
I received an advanced readers copy exchange for an honest review
The story was quite interesting, however all the jumping around and point of view did make it difficult to follow and engage. With a little bit of tightening this could be a really great book
An absolutely brilliant book, loved every page and got into the story line from the beginning which is what I go off as to whether a book is for me or not.
Excellent writing by Gillian Jackson, this well developed story just flowed and I felt as though I knew all the characters from the FLO down to Grace. I really enjoyed the short chapters relating to the different people and the ending was exceptional although I did have an inkling as the story developed who the culprit was.
I could go on about this book forever and I will certainly look out for more from this author, well done Gillian and I can thoroughly recommend your book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sapere Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this fantastic book.
First book I’ve read by this author and I read it in one sitting and found it hard to put down. Liked the style of the book - particularly how well the main characters expressed their thoughts, feelings, despair and emotions at different times and this really drew me into the story. Thought I knew who did it but was wrong. Really well written and enjoyable.
This is an enjoyable read with likable characters. I particularly liked the family liaison officer who showed himself to be genuinely sorry for the family at the centre of the story even hearing Elise out when no one else wanted to listen. I had worked out the ending but that is not to say that the book is predictable. I think I have just read a lot of books in this genre. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a slightly different police procedural.

Abduction by Gillian Jackson is a tense and suspenseful read that is told from multiple perspectives of a kidnapping that has never been resolved. I was immediately pulled into this mystery, and raced through the pages.
At her third birthday party, Grace vanishes without a trace, to the agony of her family. Fast forward fourteen years and Grace's sister, Elise, believes that she has found the younger sister she has never given up hope of finding. With the help of a dedicated detective who investigated the initial disappearance, Elise is determined to prove that Grace has been found at long last.
This is a cleverly executed construction of a missing person case, and I was virtually propelled through the pages as the investigation unfolds. I will definitely be following this exciting author, and look forward to her next offering.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Sapere Books for this ARC.
This is my first reading for Gillian Jackson and will look forward to read more from her.
This is an absorbing psychological mystery thriller about a family's worst nightmare.
The plot is emotionally engrossing with engaging relatable characters.
I thought I figured it all out, but was surprisingly wrong.
A worthwhile read!
Thanks Netgalley, the publisher, and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
I thought Abduction was absolutely haunting., it has a great level of suspense and although I thought I’d figured it all out....I was wrong and also very surprised!
A strong well written read!
