This book is all about cookies!! I liked that this book includes a nice introduction so you can get to know the author while explaining, why this cookbook focused on only cookies, is important. Afterwards, it goes on to discuss common tools you may need and ingredients that are featured, including a variety of sweeteners and additives. I especially loved that the recipes in this book are customizable, which really makes it feel like there are more recipes in this book than what is provided. As for the recipes, there are so many flavors and types. There is also an entire section of vegan cookies, which is nice since they can be a little more difficult to make these using a "normal' recipe. The photography is simple and showcases its subjects; some photos look more professional than others, but it doesn't take away from the aesthetic. Overall, if you like baking or enjoy sweets, this is a great cookbook to have on hand as a compendium of cookies!
I love sweets! I love cookies! I am so happy to have this book. There are soo many cookie recipes in here and you can customize each recipe for different situations like gluten free and vegan. I am not an expert baker, which is why I love that the author included super easy recipes. She does suggest using all organic and natural ingredients. I am so excited to try out these cookie recipes.
I received this book in return for my honest review from NetGalley and Hachette Book Group
What a fabulous cookie book. Cookies are my favorite treat and I am looking forward to trying her Dad’s coconut chocolate chip cookies. I like that she uses salted butter as my husband doesn’t get the purpose of unsalted butter. I have never made biscotti but I am going to tackle one of the recipes with Fall coming soon. The macaron is a little more complicated but the author does a great job of leading us through the recipes. Florentines are also interesting to me as well as a crack butter cookie. Thank you for allowing me to review an advanced copy.
A lot of cookie recipes. Easy and hard. Nutritious. Good to follow recipes and tips.
I think I will be making more of these as couple that I made were really good.
The only thing is...i wish the book was given in kindle format. Otherwise, great!
I really enjoyed this baking book. I love to bake cookies and there are so many recipes that I would love to try. Most of them seem very accessible and the instructions are easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to obtain which i think is important in a cookbook that is geared towards everyone. My favorite part of the book is the pictures! They are so stunning and eye catching. The photography in this book is amazing!
The first recipe had me hooked 'Dad's coconut chocolate chip cookies'. Honestly, I'm not a cookie-connoisseur by any means. Most of my baking is given away or done with my niece rather than for my own enjoyment. However, chocolate chip cookies are my one cookie weakness. I can pass up a lot but not a fresh homemade chocolate chip cookie. And then to add coconut - that's it, the plate is mine.
I like how simply the book is laid out (a must for me who can't follow basic directions). I would have preferred numbered instructions but appreciate that she has gluten-free recipes and high-altitude notes. It's also fun to dissect what the cookies are as opposed to the name of them (Best-Friend Ever Cookies have pretzels! Most are straight-forward). I would have never come across apple pie cookies or to think of mixing peanut butter and cranberries together in a biscotti.
My challenge is to try Mimi's recipe for french macarons, since I've failed the million times I've tried before. Overall, a great book for dedicated cookie lovers/bakers.
Thank you NetGalley and DaCapo Press/Hachette Book Group for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
Who doesn’t like cookies? The author owns an organic bakery and writes from her own experiences in baking. I got hungry just looking at the photos of her mouth watering treats. She includes vegan as well as gluten free recipes. Then, for those that eat most anything, she has delicious cookie recipes for us.
Biscotti are a favorite of mine and I look forward to trying several of those recipes. Council’s instructions and recipes for macarons appear to be very straightforward. Never having made a macaron, I would venture to experiment with her recipes. They look fancy and tasty.
If you like to bake, especially cookies, this book belongs on your cookbook shelf next to other classic cookie cookbooks. With school starting within the next couple of weeks, serious cookie baking needs to begin for inclusion in bag lunches and for after school snacks!
A delightful cookbook with a wonderful variety of cookies from the owner of a California cookie bakery. Not only does it include plenty of recipes for cookies you'd expect, there are some great original recipes. Plus there are extensive chapters with plenty of variations on three kinds of cookies you don't usually find in books for home bakers: Florentines, biscotti, and macarons. I also love that there was a whole chapter devoted to butter cookies (my favorites).
There are plenty of great baking tips as well. This include something I've never seen elsewhere, how to convert between flavors and extracts. A very thoughtful addition I wish I saw more often is that every recipe has high altitude and gluten-free instructions (except recipes that are naturally gluten-free). Council has cooked in high-altitude kitchens, so she knows what she's doing. Because her bakery includes gluten-free cookies, she has the experience needed to make these recommendations.
I love this book!
Who doesnt love cookies? All the cool kids do! And this book has the largest collection of different cookies that are not only delicious but healthier than others you buy. You are going to have so many recipes to try from this book..thos books going to keep me busy a while. I definitely recommend it!
