The pictures in this book are very good. They are engaging. I feel like the story is a little too preachy at times. It was an okay read for me.
“The Girl Who Spoke to the Moon” is a precious children’s picture book that tells the story of a young girl named Sofia who visits the Moon in her dreams. She and The Moon become friends. One night Sofia notices her friend is sad, so in her dream The Moon takes Sofia on a journey to show her why he is sad. Sofia discovers that the moon is sad because the planet Earth is in danger and we need to take better care of it. The text is poetic and easy to read with a nice cadence. The illustrations are beautiful. They are done in muted tones with a dreamlike quality. This is another great book to read with children to show them what is happening to the Earth and what they can do to help protect it. There is also information in the back pages for further investigation for older children. Another great book for schools and classrooms to read during a unit on the environment.
Sofia dreams she visits her friend the Moon one night, who shows her how the Earth is suffering because of pollution, and tells her ways she can help make things better. The story is told in a way that is effective without being preachy, with afterwords about how pollution is affecting the planet, and small ways people can help that add up to big changes. It's a sweet story, and a great message, but the real star here is the beautiful artwork. The soft, glowing illustrations have such a dreamlike quality, they're absolutely swoonworthy! A perfect addition to any child's library.
When Sofia dreams of visiting the Moon one night, she discovers people are hurting the Earth! With the Moon as her guide, Sofia learns how we can work together to make Earth feel better.
This is a beautiful story about appreciating the world around you and recognizing your impact on it.
I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. To start, the illustrations for this book were amazing. So beautiful and I loved the message about how we need to take care of the earth. Great message and lovely illustrations.
When Sofia becomes friends with the Moon, she begins dreaming of visiting. Then one night, her wish comes true! But what she sees makes her very sad. From out in space, Sofia can see how polluted the Earth is. Can the Moon and Sofia find a way to work together to make Earth feel better?
Like Land’s lyrical prose, Sue uses gentle illustrations to subtly pass along the messages of the story.
In my favourite spread, Sofia questions where the moon has gone.
This gentle, rhyming story of friendship offers a unique approach to change the way we view Earth, seeing it from the Moon’s perspective. At the end of the book is a section called “What the moon shows Sofia” and it explains air, land and water pollution in simple terms as well as what we can do to help the environment.
I love this book and will definitely share it with the children that I teach. Very important messages about looking after our world, which is so topical at the moment. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an ARC egalley.
This book took me by a surprise. I was expecting a book about friendship and care. I got that and much more. It goes into the troubles Earth is facing and some things we can do to help. Great book to start a discussion on climate change.
“The Girl Who Spoke to the Moon” is a precious and inspirational children’s picture book that tells the story of a young girl named Sofia who befriends and visits the Moon in her dreams. The Moon shows Sofia that the planet Earth is hurting and in need of much better care.
“By far the gift of greatest worth is our dear home, this planet Earth.”
The message in this book can help teach children to love the planet we live on, and inspire them to make Earth a better, healthier planet. Also, the text in this book is poetic and easy to read, and the illustrations are beautiful and adorable. I recommend reading this book to or with children of all ages, and discussing its content.
The Girl Who Spoke to the Mood begins as a beautiful story about a girl's dreamy relationship with the moon. Through a dreamy trip to visit the moon she learns that the moon is sad because of all the ways people have polluted the earth. From that point on the book the story turns to a lesson about cleaning up the planet.
The lyrical words are well done. Back matter provides some inspiring quotes and suggests ways children can clean their part of the world or conserve energy. The illustrations were beautifully done.
Great book on the importance of conservation that is really approachable and not overly preachy. There are useful tips in the back on how everyone can do a few small things to make changes to help our planet.
The Earth is ours to care for. It deserves our love and our friendship. It requires our time and our efforts to keep it clean and healthy for the many generations still left to come.
Through the beautifully illustrated picture book, titled The Girl Who Spoke to the Moon: A Story about Friendship and Loving Our Earth, children everywhere will learn about the power behind befriending and caring for the world around us.
Told through the friendship between a little girl and the moon, the two embark on a journey to erase the damage done by pollution.
The shining glory of this story is the illustrations. They are dream-like and effervescent, and they perfectly encapsulate the message of the story.
This sweet story of a little girl whose relationship with the moon helps her know how to take better care of the earth is good for a variety of age levels. I liked the illustrations as well as the extra information at the back.
This is a sweet book about protecting our planet and it has very pretty illustrations. I'd recommend for families looking to explore this topic with little ones. Thank you Netgalley and Little Pickle Press for the advance e-galley.
A multi-level story that teaches us about friendship, but also the loving care we should show to our home, Earth. Sofia, one night, becomes friends with the moon. This act leads her on an adventure to space where she learns about the destruction that is coming to our planet. Not only that, but what we can do to stop it or at least not contribute to the air, land, and water pollution that is prevalent on our planet today.

I think the basis to the story is good but I think it missed opportunities. I think unless a child is fascinated by the moon, it wouldn't be a favorite. The illustrations were beautiful to look at and very calming for a bedtime story.
Thank you Publishers and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book!
I loved the cute artwork and story! Sofia and the moon were very well crafted characters. I didn’t expect that “save the earth” to appear but it also seemed to fit in and read organically, so I didn’t mind it. The rhymes were simple and had good word choices-nothing overdone other than that “out” twice in a row. I thought some of the informative pages at the end weren’t targeted at the kids. Kids don’t drive or cook. Would the parents read that if they already know about things they can do from hearing it on the news? Overall, it was a pretty good children’s book.
Great message about our environment and a girls imagination. The illustrations make the book soft and beautiful, while the rhyming formats gives the book an easy flowing cadence.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was a really cute storybook about a little girl who befriends the Moon and learns an important lesson about taking care of the earth. Illustrations are beautiful and the rhymes simple but poetic.
This beautifully illustrated rhyming picture book has a wonderful message...take care of the earth. One night Sofia meets up with the moon, who warns her about how people aren't honoring the planet. I read this via NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.
