I enjoyed reading this book, it was an interesting premise and I really enjoyed reading it. The characters were great and I liked the world that was built by the author. I look forward to more in this series.
Colonel Julian Hawthorne has set in motion a maniacal plan to rule the world with a clockwork army of human automatons. And as a vampire, he has the wealth and all the time in the world to achieve his mad goal. Lord Sebastian Hawthorne is equally determined to stop his brother in his tracks. Sebastian has never forgiven Julian for making him a vampire. But unlike Julian, Sebastian sees humans as more than cattle to be dominated…and bled dry. With the help of Theodosia Ambrose, clockwork - gadgeteer expert, he vows to thwart his brother’s plans at any cost. Even his own immortal life.
This was an OK read. It’s a bit different from what I normally read, which is what I liked, especially the steampunk part. Not sure if I’ll try this author again.

Sebastian Hawthorne is a vampire and clockwork inventor. In the first book, with the help of Theo Ambrose, woman and clockwork-gadgeteer expert, he tries to stop his brother Julian from releasing a clockwork army. In the second book, Sebastian and Theo help another vampire, Marcus Dwyer, help stop his newborn vampire.
This book was hard for me to get into. I wasn't really much of a fan of the plot. The characters and story were interesting though. I thought the application of vampires and clockwork machines was very cool.
After reading the opening chapter, I wanted to like this more than I eventually did. I really liked the setting. Putting vampires in a steampunk world immediately appealed to me and I initially also liked the writing style.
After a little while though, some things started to bother me a little. For example, there were several passages that were repeated almost word for word within a few pages, as if the writer had put a passage in a different spot, but forgotten to delete it in the original spot. Overall, I think this book needs some more editing to polish away things like that.
Normally I stop noticing little style issues like that once I get used to someone's style and get sucked into the story, but that never really happened here.
I did not relate to the characters very much, they were not very developed and there were some inconsistencies in the way they acted sometimes. I also found neither of the two stories very captivating. They were pretty linear and predictable, and in both cases I found their resolution disappointing, especially as both stories end with the villain having some freak accident instead of actually being stopped by the main characters.
So in the end, I'm sorry but I can't honestly give this more than two stars. It is OK if you like vampires and steampunk and just want a quick light read, but I found myself longing for a bit more depth.
Vampire Extraordinaire is a good vampire novel with interesting characters. It is well written and has interesting characters.
