The many lives of Bailey continue and he has quite a few in this book. W. Bruce Cameron is the master of these endearing dog series and the reader falls deeply in love with all of them and their owners.
I usually don't like sequels - but this one (second sequel I think) is just as good as the first book. Reading the first book is helpful but not necessary to enjoy this one. The dog (goes through several names) is light hearted and yet sensitive to his humans. You can understand the confusion (is his name Dad or Sam) and his belief that a dog makes anything better.
There's a good family story here - two brothers who don't/can't get along. You watch this through the dog's eyes although the dog has little to do with the reconciliation that comes.
You'll laugh and you'll feel good. What more can you ask for in a book?

Being a huge fan of a Dog's purpose and a Dog's Journey and Bailey is such a heartwarming dog that you could not help but follow Bailey along in his adventures and see the joy he brings to everyone he meets. This time he is joined by Lacey who is just as sweet if not a sweeter dog than Bailey and Bailey stops at nothing to protect and look out for Lacey and have them take the journey together making a difference in people's lives. I love the message this series has created and a dog's promise does a wonderful job reflecting that. I know our community will love and be looking forward to the release of a dog's promise and wonder when the release of the movie will be as well.
We will consider adding this title to our Adult Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
If you liked his previous books about dogs, you will love this one as the story continues.
What is it like to be a dog and what is your purpose in existing? Some possible answers arise as Bailey/Cooper/Riley attempts to teach us. A Dog's Promise is a wholesome book to be read by any age and a joy to read.

Dogs truly are man's best friends. In A Dog's Promise, W. Cameron Bruce brings shows us how a dog can make a difference in a human life, but his main focus is on how the dog perceives his interaction and role in our lives. Well-told story that describes many incarnations in one dog's soul's journey. While there are a few sad moments, A Dog's Promise is uplifting rather than maudlin. Maybe I should have seen the end coming, but didn't. And it gave me chills.
