This novel was very hard to get through. This novel was very slow-paced and the world-building was confusing! I was hoping that this would be a feminist take on Wendy. However, Wendy came across as a Mary Sue. She is beloved by everyone. However, she had no special qualities that proved she was different from other women. Thus, Wendy was the blandest character in the novel. I will continue to read the sequel to see if Wendy improves.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book!
The beginning of the book is immediately crisp, ironic, and deliciously humorous in a comprehensible way. I enjoyed the writing style writing style as it is very in tone with early 1900's books that were released. I Feel like this might be something not everyone loves, but I definitely enjoyed it. I think it works well as a tool to set the tone and period of the book. Furthermore, I found the sly humor and the teasing of the old books to be hilarious. I will say that the middle portion of this book hadn’t a bit of a lull, in which I found myself losing my excitement until the ending isn’t where it began to pick up a bit.
I will saY that this book is very unique and I will be reading the end to book, as I find the characters very intriguing and the story a delight. I think this author was bold, as they took a huge risqué with their writing style and such. But overall what a fun read!.
