“ So for a month, we will switch homes, indulge ourselves, eat whatever we want , sleep late, leave our beds unmade and follow our hearts to wherever they made lead us “
So begins Lena and Olivia’s plan to “ run away “ from their current lives to reset their lives and rediscover their passion and inspiration , they find that and so much more !
I absolutely loved this book, I couldn’t put it down and I can’t recommend it enough.
Lena and Olivia were such inspirations and the backdrop of Charleston and Virginia was stunning !

Lena's daughter Kayla has a job interview. Four months has passed since her college graduation. Lena comes into her daughter's bedroom to find her naked with a strange man. Lena needs a break from her daughter's and husband's crap. Olivia is a fashion blogger. She has a daughter named Laura. I didn't like the sudden switch between characters.

A chance meeting in an airport changes the life of two old friends. After they decide to escape from their current lives and inhabit the world of the other for a short time, both women learn so much about themselves and what they need to do to make their lives more meaningful.

Once again, Ashley has written a beautiful story with wonderful, real, and likable characters whose lives are filled with reflection, growth, determination, humor, love, and acceptance. I enjoyed witnessing Lena's and Olivia's transformation into their new normal.

I have loved all of Ashley's stories and each one becomes my new favorite. Life on Loan is one you don't want to miss!

This is my second book by the author, and I have loved both of them. Ashley Farley writes wonderful novels about women learning how to empower themselves and find what they deserve out of life (which is usually more or better than what they start off with). The characters learn how to fight for what is right and they learn to find their voices. This story is told from the point of view of 3 different people (2 women and a man) who are all connected in some way. The author made me feel like I really knew the characters, and I was silently cheering them all on from my couch. There were some surprise plot events throughout the story, so it wasn't just another predictable contemporary. It was definitely a feel good story, and I wanted to continue to read more to see what happened to the characters even after the end. Definitely recommend this book if you're looking for a feel good story!

I am on tour for this book so my blog post will be on tour date. If anything changes, I will update here.
My Thoughts:

This was a refreshing read!  Two women taking their lives back.  One after living under her husband and daughters critical eye.  The other after trailing after two twenty something children around featuring their lavish parties on her blog.

I normally have a favorite character, but in this book I liked both Lena and Olivia.

Lena is the people pleaser and the all around good girl.  Like any stay at home mom, she's tired.  Her daughter expects her to do everything for her and her husband is critical of her every move.  So when Lena decides to get away, you kind of cheer for her.  She's taking life into her own hands which you'll learn later from her best friend that it's about time she does.

I had to laugh when her husband criticized her for being a stay at home mom and sitting around all day eating ice cream and reading trashy novels.  I'm a stay at home mom, and once all the cleaning and other household duties are done, I'm sitting around reading.  Not trashy novels though.

Olivia is fresh from a divorce that has left her mind reeling.  Working on her blog, she is employed by 2 Kate's that are competing on who can throw the most lavish parties.  To me I would drop kick the Kates to the curb much sooner than she had.

When Lena and Olivia trade places, it's like a breath of fresh air for both of them.  Time to clear their minds.  I enjoyed reading their adventures of new discovery of a new surrounding and themselves.  The author even throws a little romance in.

You'll enjoy this light, fast paced read.

Make A Decision. This was an excellent book about finding yourself when you find yourself at the end of your rope. Full of sly real-world commentary, particularly as it relates to writing and reading, this book would do well as a vehicle for ageing former Hollywood starlets. The "second life" romance is starting to become more of a thing in women's fiction, and this book is poised to ride that wave of a so-far apparently underserved market. My second book from Farley in just the last six months alone, this is very different from Only One Life and yet at the same time very much in line with that effort. Excellent work, and very much recommended.

Author Ashley Farley writes books that make me feel like I’m visiting old friends; they are endearing and personal and often deal with life-changing events and decisions. In Life on Loan, our new/old friends, Lena, Olivia, and Alastair are all on the brink of living their lives to the fullest, but must make tough choices along the way. Lena and Olivia each make the decision to run away from the daily strife and dissatisfaction of their lives, and end up swapping houses for a month to see what else is out there. Alistair is still grieving the loss of his wife, unsure about which direction his life should take. The journey that these three take is filled with doubt as well as determination, stumbling along the way, but hoping to find the ability to soar. These three characters instantly became my friends, with me cheering for them every step of the way. Life on Loan is a compelling, heart-warming book filled with great characters, taking place in the fun settings of Charleston, Virginia, and NYC.

Life on Loan is a nice refreshing read. It's about family, friendship, and romance, with a bit of betrayal thrown in. Ashley Farley brings the characters to be people in our lives or maybe even people the reader can relate to. I read the book in one day and enjoyed it.

After 30 years, two friends find each other at the airport lounge when their flights are delayed. To their surprise, they have another thing in common- they are both running away. Lena has ran away from home, away from her egotistical husband and dependent adult daughter in hopes of finding herself. Olivia, ran away from the Kates and the divorce that stripped away 28 years of marriage. They agree to switch homes for a whole month and meet back and show how much they changed. Olivia is off to Lena's summer cottage where there is no internet. And Lena is off to Olivia's Charleston Home.

I really enjoyed this novel! I found the perspective of two middle age women who are in need of a change totally refreshing. This story of rediscovery is relatable with realistic challenges and characters. I loved that the ending helped tie up all the characters growth and didnt just end with Olivia and Lena. It is a story to show that everyone has more life to give. At any point, you can decide to stop loving your life on loan.

Life on Loan by Ashley Farley was a wonderful addition to her catalog of work! I loved this book as much as I have all her others.

The main characters of Olivia and Lena are both lost in their own ways and reading about how they eventually found what was right for them was so heartwarming.

If you have enjoyed any of Ms. Farley's earlier books or enjoy women's fiction, this is definitely a good one to pick up.

Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for a review copy at my request. All thoughts are my own.

Life on Loan by Ashley Farley is a fantastic book. I couldn't put it down. es! Two college friends unexpectedly meet in the Atlanta airport thirty years later and on a whim decide to swap homes for a month. Lena Browder has reached her limit with being a doormat for her family. She has lost herself over the years and has decided to run away for a month. Lena grabs her old camera before she leaves her house in hopes of rekindling her interest in photography.
Olivia is running away from her life for a different reason. She has upset the pattern and plans for the two "Kates and the Scapades" she has blogged about for the past few months. The competitions and scandals of the women have drained Olivia of all her inspirations and energy. It is a very emotional read and I felt very real. This could happen to anyone. I think this is why I was so drawn into this book. Just a great read. Thank you NetGalley.

Lena and Olivia both need a break. Lena's husband and daughter are dreadful and she's tired. Olivia's just gotten divorced and she's burned out from blogging about some hateful women. Their spontaneous decision to switch locations for 30 days - Lena goes to Charleston to Olivia's condo and Olivia goes to the Northern Neck to Lena's house- gives them both a chance to breathe. I imagine more than a few of us can identify as well as empathize with one or both of them. Farley has done a nice job with the locations as well. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Good characters and storytelling made this a good read.

Life on Loan is the latest novel by Ashley Farley. Lena Browder is at a definite life crossroads. Her grown daughter Kayla has moved home after college with no job prospects in sight and living like a spoiled teenager. Her husband, Charles, is distant and terribly judgmental. He belittles Lena at every opportunity. The final straw is when Kayla fails to rise for an interview and Lena knocks and enters her room to find a naked Lothario quickly dressing to escape. When Charles goes through one of his tirades, Lena says enough, leaves the house for a long walk, and decides to run away from home.

Olivia Westcoat has had it being caught between the shenanigans of two wealthy Charlestonians as their exploits have taken over her blog. She is barely scraping by and the settlement from her ex-husband is quickly dwindling. She must escape the drama and does so with a wonderful post on an area caterer rather than the outlandish party she was attending. She heads to the west coast, hoping to stay with her daughter.

When Lena and Olivia run into each other in the sky lounge in the Atlanta airport they recognize each other from college. They had been acquaintances and used the many weather delays to catch up. Neither has a lot of funding for their escapes, but they do arrive at an interesting solution. Olivia has a condo in Charleston she isn’t using. Lena has inherited her family’s river house in Northern Neck, Va., that is vacant. They decide to trade places for the month of October.

This novel follows the parallel journeys of these two women on a middle aged quest to find themselves and meaning in their lives. Over the course of three months, so much happens for these women as they make new friends, develop new relationships, and find the direction they sought. This was a very good book with rich believable characters and a plot that illuminates many issues dealt with by women every day. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it.

Swapping houses never slipped into my mind. Maybe because of the trust issues, or maybe because in my country this thing never happened. Probably never happened at all. I happened to know this swapping house thing from Holiday movie. You know, the one with Kate Winslet and Jude Law ? I thought I watched it numerous times. So, when I knew this book is sharing the same theme, I intrigued. Just thinking about how they could trust each other to swapping houses are enough for me to be amazed.
Lena and Olivia are an old acquaintance who decided to swap their house. Lena wanted to escape from her abusive husband, while Olivia was running from her chaotic divorced life. They swapped house between Charleston and Northern Neck, Virginia. Both places I never encountered but seemed so beautiful from the novel perspective.
The story was simple and light enough. Both main characters looking for their self after their own problems took over their life. I mean, we all ever been in this situation right ? So it hits home very well. I enjoyed their adventure in new environment, which is something that I always nervous about. I liked how our characters developed and try different interesting things. Things like what ? Things like photography, writing a novel, and befriended with locals. The book featured so many bookish things as well. You can even get book recommendation from the author in this book. So it’s quite interesting.
What I liked in this story is the ability to make me feel there’s something else beyond what I got right now. In this story, they all are having different issues like everybody had and they passed the test. I learnt that it’s okay to chasing dreams and it’s totally okay to feel scared about it in the beginning. Because life is never on loan, like this swapping house things. Life is yours and yours truly.
Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing me with this ARC.

LIFE ON LOAN by Ashley Farley is a beautifully-written story of friendship, love and fresh starts in life. By chance, college friends Lena Browder and Olivia Westcoat meet again after thirty years when they are waiting in an airline lounge for their flights. Both women are trying to escape from the painful reality of their current lives, hoping to find a new, more fulfilling direction to turn for the future. They decide to swap homes for month and come back together after they have had time to reflect on and refocus their lives. What follows is a heart-warming and inspiring story of their struggles, triumphs and the self-discovery that leads to permanent changes in their relationships with their friends and family. I was completely immersed in their emotional story and found myself cheering them on from beginning to end. I loved the descriptions of the two settings, Charleston and the isolated river community in the Northern Neck of Virginia. The characters are delightful and wonderfully-portrayed. For anyone who has wished for the courage to start over, this is a must-read. I couldn’t put it down! Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read an early copy.

WALLOW. That is exactly what I wanted to do…wallow in this yummy book. It has such pretty settings, nice characters and the excitement of unlimited choices in life.

Life on Loan by Ashley Farley is a wonderful story about two women who experience midlife changing events and are forced to start over and reinvent themselves. The journey is exciting and challenging making you happy you have come along for the ride.

These two women are so likeable you feel happy, sad, heartbroken and frustrated with them. You want to be their friend and wish you could pick up the phone and say “What are you thinking?”. These are characters you will remember for a long while. This novel is definitely worth your time!

I received this book from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
