This is the seventh book I’ve read by Colleen. Every time I start a book of hers, I think that it couldn’t possibly be as good as the last one that I’ve read. And every time she proves me wrong. She is my absolute favorite author. All of her novels deal with things that are very real. Inferiority, abuse, love, trauma, family troubles.. etc. I read this one about 5 hours. Straight devoured it. I loved how it was from two different perspectives. A mother and daughter. Do yourself a favor and pre-order this one! Pub date 12/10/19.
You will regret nothing!!
Colleen Hoover has a way with words that’s for sure. I went into this book completely blind and you should as well. The WOW factor of this book is amazing. I love her ability to take true to life stories and create a masterpiece. All the characters in this book are real and believable. You will be immersed in this one. Trust me you will Regret nothing by picking up this book and reading it!! A++++ Mrs. Hoover.
I was so excited that I received an ARC of this book!! I loved everything about it. I don’t read many books that are written from an alternating POV of mother and daughter. Clara and Morgan have the unthinkable happen to them and it doesn’t end there. It was difficult to read about their relationship at times but Colleen does an excellent job of portraying difficult situations and the solutions to them.
There isn't a Colleen Hoover book that I ever read and did not like. Colleen is the champion author to describe different emotions and makes the reader feel every sad/happy emotion. I shed a few tears whilst reading this book.
I know when I pick up a Colleen Hoover book I’m going to FEEL and that was definitely the case with Regretting You.
Morgan Grant is determined to prevent her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, from making the same mistakes she did. With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. When peace in the household is shattered, the heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences are far reaching.
One of my favorite things about this book was that we not only got Clara’s story, but we got Morgan’s story as well. Each character is well drawn and believable. Another of my favorite things about Regretting You was that it held a little bit of everything from romance, to mystery, to mother/daughter relationships, it’s all there and Colleen nails each aspect.
You might wonder since I’ve seemingly done nothing but gush over this book why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Well, there were instances where I knew what was coming. I’m the reader who usually doesn’t, but in this case I did. That’s not to say that I wasn’t surprised because I was. I might have figured out one element, but Colleen managed to throw in some piece I wasn’t expecting, which this made this book really hard to put down.
If you haven’t read a Hoover book before, what are you waiting for?! Regretting You would be a great place to start.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Netgalley.
If you ask anyone who know me, Colleen Hoover has been my favorite authors for years. I love the way that she can trap you in a story and make you connect with her characters. This book is different from some of her recent. Told from the perspective of mother and daughter, both going through a tragic event together, suffering in different ways. I loved Morgan, and I thought her character was very well done. Clara almost felt a little too perfect for me, but I enjoyed her none the less.
This is not a typical Co-Ho romance, keep that in mind. However it is powerful none the less.
I know it is probably hard to believe but Regretting You is my first Colleen Hoover book EVER!! Her books have been recommended to me for years but I just didn't know where to start. When I saw an advanced copy of Regretting You on NetGalley I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. I was immediately drawn into the storyline and found it to be a totally engrossing read.
Regretting You ended up being a very engaging book that I loved reading while on vacation. This book was told partly from a teenager POV and although I wasn't sure at first, I found that I was able to relate to both of the main characters even though I am around the age of the mother in this female relationship.
I was pleasantly surprised that Hoover took on some deeper and thought-provoking topics. My favorite part of this book was how it dealt with grief and loss and I loved seeing this from multiple perspectives. There is a YA romance that was enjoyable enough but also a little predictable but the other parts really shined through this. I am definitely going to dive into Colleen Hoover's backlist list now!
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Romance for an advanced copy.
What can I say, every single book that Colleen Hoover writes is an absolute winner and this is no exception.
Morgan and her sister are best friends. Morgan was the mother figure in her sisters Jenny’s life. Morgan fell pregnant at 16/17 and had a baby to her childhood sweetheart Chris. Chris then marries Morgan they live together happily until one today tragedy strikes and Jenny and Chris are involved in a car accident together. Why are they together? What happened?
How grief can break down relationships and build them? How to build and strengthen relationships with in families is better to protect the ones you love or work together in building new relationships and strengthen existing relationships. Do yourself a favour and read it.
4.5 stars!
My heart. My poor aching heart. Holy smokes, if you love a book that has all the feels, Regretting You will be a hit. Reader beware, however, that this is not a whimsical hearts and flowers romance. This book is sad. Emotionally heavy. So if you’re after lots of happy happy, move along. It’s not to say there isn’t a happily ever after, it’s just a very sad journey for several characters in this book.
Colleen Hoover did a great job shining the light on love and loss, on missed opportunities. On struggling with things in life we just can’t change but finding the light in the path to happiness nevertheless. Regretting You is a journey through grief and anger, friendship and love, with family and friends.
I have to say this is a hard book to move on from emotionally. CoHo did such an exemplary job of putting us in each of the character’s shoes,I’m having a hard time moving on to my next read. Everything seems blah in comparison. Major book hangover alert.
So pick this up when you’re ready to have your heart squeezed in all the ways. Releasing in wintertime, if you’re a sufferer of winter blues, this might need to be tabled. Ha. But if you’re up for a book that’ll make you experience it all, this will be a sure hit.
This book was absolutely amazing. It’s exactly what I’ve come to expect from a CoHo novel. It’s smart, sassy, and heartwarming. I have never been let down by a Hoover novel. I absolutely read her books without reading what it’s about.
Regretting You was one of my most anticipated books of the year, so you can imagine my excitement at receiving an advanced copy from NetGalley. The book revolves around Morgan and her daughter Clara in the aftermath of the death of husband and father Chris. With his death (not a spoiler because this is in the synopsis) Morgan find and Clara struggle to relate to each other, and largely leave each other alone to handle their grief in separate ways. As lies, secrets, and betrayals emerge, they each find solace in the person beside them, and must learn to communicate on their own, without having Chris as the buffer they always relied on.
This book deals with relationships from many perspectives. While you have 34 yr old Morgan as the mother, the book opens up with her in the first chapter being 17 and making huge life decisions. From there, it has alternating points of view with current Morgan reliving the past and how she got to this point, and Clara, living solely in the present at the same age her mother was when she got pregnant with Clara. We are able to relate to Morgan from the adult perspective because we know, through her, what it was like to be the grow into the person she became.
From a completely voyeur perspective, I wish there was a little more detail from Chris' perspective. You think you might get it at one point, but the author chose not to reveal his side after all. That was a bit of a disappointment, but plays right into who Morgan is as a respectable and relatable character. The book could use a little more of the adult Chris in it. You see quite a bit as a teen, but just a snippet of him as an adult is provided. This may be because ultimately, it isn't his story. It is the story of mothers and daughters. The other relationships in the book are secondary to that one.
I highly enjoyed this book. It has become my top 4 favorite CoHo books. I think it will appeal across all ages, from adult to mature teen. It was a quick read and the story flowed perfectly. And unless you are dead inside, expect a few tears. This was a solid 4.5 for me, so I rounded to a 5.
As I dove between the pages of Colleen Hoover’s latest novel, “Regretting You,” I did so with eager anticipation, but with little idea as to what to expect. I should have known to “expect the unexpected.” Because that’s exactly what Colleen Hoover delivered. As a wife, as a mother, and as a daughter, this novel hit every emotional chord—from devastation, to shock, to frustration, and a multitude of sentiments in between.
Told through the eyes of both mother and daughter, “Regretting You” tells a tale of young romance, broken relationships, tragedy and betrayal, as well as rising from the ashes in the aftermath.
'Regretting You' was a compelling portrayal of:
Grief, forgiveness, compassion, and redemption; of
The beginning and the end of love; of
Romantic love and familial love; of
Coming to understand those you love are not as perfect as they seem or as perfect as you want them to be, but loving them anyway; of
The struggles of parenting and even though you want nothing more than to do what's best for your children, sometimes, you still get it wrong; of
Being a teenager trying to navigate emotions, teenage years, and wanting to be independent, but yearning for direction. Of needing to rebel, but also needing to be reeled in, taken under a wing and being told, "You will be alright."; of
Doing what you think is best for others while giving up what's best for you, and learning how that hurts everyone involved; of
How tragedy, loss, and betrayal can feel like the end of the world, leaving you with two choices, drown or swim; of
Finding the power within yourself to walk away, and accept the hurt, because that's what's best; because walking way might be the only way you win.
'Regretting You' was unforgiving in its truth, ruthless in its emotional impact, and refreshingly inspiring!
Colleen Hoover is my favorite author for a reason. Once again, she didn’t disappoint. This is by far the best book I’ve read in 2019! The story revolves around a family (parents, daughter, aunt and uncle). A tragic event reveals secrets that can’t be ignored. Intertwined is 2 budding relationships. Can this family move past the secrets of the past and have an amazing future or will the past consume them? Chris, Morgan, Jenny, Jonah, Clara, and Miller are characters you’ll love or you’ll love to hate. Your heart will go through so many emotions, so prepare yourself.
I still can't believe I was blessed with an ARC of this book. Like any Coho book, this only took me a few hours to devour and only a few pages to shatter my heart.
It's a fact that all Coho books will break your heart in someway and all in their own levels but somehow Regretting You really hit me deep. It was like I read this book with a fist around my heart, squeezing it at every page.
I've never read a mother/daughter book before and I thought that this change between their povs would put me a little off but nope, the opposite happened - I was so invested in both their story lines to follow along their relationships and I was also desperate to follow along their own mother/daughter relationship...it was heartaching the whole way through but it was all worth it. Just like any Coho book, she always manages to put your heart back together and Regretting You ended on a funny, high and so damn sweet note. I adored how this book ended and it really felt like a balm to for my heart.
Want some advice? Go in blind, do not freaking read the end at any point in the story until you actually reach it lol. Just let your heart suffer along these characters and live their adventures, heartbreaks and relationships with them until you get to see them heal some of that heartbreak and simultaneously heal your own. Regretting You is a beautiful story about a mother/daughter relationship, about second chances and dealing with some of the most cruel heartbreak life can throw your way.
As I prefer to do, I went in to this story blind and one of the things that I loved about this book, was the refreshing change of having a story written in the POV's of a mother and her daughter. They are trying to steer themselves through the same personal tragedy that has affected their lives, but seeing how they both handled certain situations and the repercussions for the decisions that they both made gave me lots to think about, and I felt that there are many lessons to be learned throughout the book which the author addressed very well.
I honestly didn't want to put this book down. There was never a moment where I wasn't heavily invested in this story. Morgan and Clara are incredible characters and I could relate to everything that they were going through. The storyline is amazing and I never knew just how scenes were going to play out... which I loved. I could see just how much Morgan wanted to do the right thing by Clara and their relationship was tested many times as parent/child relationships often are. The other characters in the book added to the story perfectly. Because Regretting You narrates both Morgan and Clara's stories, there is more than one relationship to focus on and watch develop which was something I really enjoyed.
I have felt so many emotions throughout this story. Not only could I feel the connection between the characters in the book but I felt a connection to them myself! I don't want to give anything away that you won't have already read in the synopsis, so I will conclude my review here by saying that Regretting You is already one of my top reads. It is a truly beautiful story great for both young adult and adults alike, and I'm certain you will love it just as much as I do.
As always, Ms Hoover's book delivers! I don't want to spoil the book, but I was hooked a few pages in. I think I felt every single emotion reading this lol. I think a sequel would be fantastic! *I was given a copy via Netgalley for my unbiased review*
Love, grief, secrets, family & healing. My eyes hurt from holding back the tears.
Another amazing and emotional read from Colleen Hoover! I was invested from the start and I have to say, I have some new favorite COHO characters from this one!!
Loved this. I loved how CoHo gave us all the emotions. I teared up a few times, laughed a few times, for mad at Morgan and Jonah, and then smiled multiple times. Especially when it had to do with Gramps. I loved him.
This was another win from Hoover. Cannot wait for her next book.
Oh my Gosh this book honestly gave me so many feels. I was happy, I was sad and even mad.
I don't want to spoil anything for anyone because this book isn't out yet. But I want to give an awesome review.
I liked all the characters in this book, but without giving a spoiler about a ton of things i will just say this I think Morgan is my fave character in this book. Just for the fact of how she dealt with everything, the eventual blow of it all. So to speak, yes some things she could have dealt with better. But I don't know what I would have done in her situation.
Jonah was a unique character I feel we get to learn a little bit about with different chapters. I also want a second book with the points of views from Jonah and Chris and Jenny and even Miller.
Everyone played a role into an event that happened. Even pretty early on you learn a lot about everyone. Except really honestly for Chris and Jenny.
I definitely want their point of views the most of the characters I mentioned.
I believe everyone kind of learned from their actions and more about themselves throughout this wonderful book.
May even reread this one again just because or even certain parts of this book.
Preorder this book, you won't be disappointed. It's another awesome book by Colleen Hoover.
