Colleen Hoover does it again. If you are a CoHo fan, then you will be delighted that her writing quality and tone has remained consistent in her new novel - finished it in one sitting!
She introduces us to a group of friends and family that have chemistry and secrets from the past that is now impacting their future in the most original storyline.
In this novel, she brings multiple original scenarios to light (family, marriage, death, and teenage angst) and delves deep into giving us the story behind the characters with dual point of views.
If you are new to reading Colleen Hoover, you will find her quickly addicting for she writes in a way that is unapologetic to society's standards weaved in with high emotions and romance.
I definitely recommend this book!
Good grief, Colleen! Every single book you write just gets better and better. It doesn’t matter what you write, I’m going to give it 5 stars. It’s a given. No other author consistently makes me relate to each character and brings out emotions I didn’t even know I had. You seriously pulled all of the feels out of me on this one!
You guys, this book is amazing. If you have read Hoover’s other books, you know what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t read any of her books, do it now. Right now! My fellow CoHorts and I have been waiting anxiously for this release. I was fortunate enough to score an advanced copy and I felt like I won the lottery when I found out. It truly doesn’t matter what Hoover writes…she’s going to knock your socks off. She can write any genre and it will blow your mind. When she released a thriller last December called Verity, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it. I’m still talking about it almost a year later. I think all of her fans were shocked at how well written it was being a different genre from her usual romance/young adult books. It just proved what we already knew…this woman is a genius!
Hoover pulls your heartstrings with Regretting You. So many emotions came out when I least expected it. She took a different route with this one with alternating views from Morgan, and her 16-year-old daughter, Clara. I cried, as I do in every one of Colleen’s books. It covers teenage romance, adult romance, mother/daughter relationships, friendships, tragedy, you name it.
I always go into Colleen’s books not knowing what to expect, but I know I’m going to love it. My advice is to just go in blind. Don’t even read the excerpt. You’re going to love it no matter what.
Preorder this right now! It releases on December 10 and you don’t want to wait any longer to get this one in your hands. I preordered a copy and will be rereading it as soon as it comes in.
Thank you to Montlake Romance and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you #netgalley for the advanced copy of Regretting You! Colleen has written another amazing story that pulls you in right from the beginning. The different tales of loss, grief, love, guilt are so real and raw, I felt so much for all of the characters. Miller’s relationship with his Gramps is one of my favorite parts! I would definitely recommend!
I didn’t have a physical copy of the book, but if I did I would be hugging it before I started because that’s how excited I was to be able to read it early. I felt every emotion in reading “Regretting You”. There is a beautiful reference in the book about snow globes and how sometimes we are shaken up like them in our lives. I’ve always thought this about snow globes and people. Well, I felt much the same way reading it. I felt as though I was stuck inside the globe with all the characters feelings and emotions and someone was shaking up the snow globe where everything was a mess..... In the end though the snow globe was finally put back on the shelf and all was well as someone wound it up to play “Here comes the Sun”. I loved Regretting You. There isn’t a book I’ve read of Colleen’s I haven’t loved. Can’t wait for everyone to be shaken up like a snow globe! Beautiful book!
I read a lot of books in a year. So I'm always looking for a book that will stick with me far after I've finished reading it. I've also read all of Colleen's books. I would read anything she writes without even knowing what it is about at. Regretting You is one that made me feel something, which is what I'm looking for in any book. This did not disappoint.
Another outstanding book from Colleen Hoover. I don’t know how she does it. Every story she writes shatters my heart, but always puts it back together.
I don’t want to say too much about this story, as it’s one you should go into blind. It follows a mother, Morgan and her relationship with her daughter, Clara as they navigate loss, betrayal and learning to forgive the people they love the most. You will laugh, you will cry and you will hope for a sequel when you finish this book.
Colleen Hoover masterfully evokes all the emotions from readers. Her stories are powerful, raw and real and remind us how imperfect and flawed we all are.
I can’t even describe my excitement when I was approved for a copy of Regretting You. I’ve loved all of Colleen Hoover’s books that I’ve read previously and I knew this one would be added to the same list.
Regretting You is a story of family, first love, grief and betrayal. The story focuses on mother Morgan and daughter Clara and their relationship through some tumultuous circumstances.
Although the story was a tad predictable, CoHo’s writing keeps you wanting to just keep on reading until the end. I finished this book in a day, stopping and starting around errands and loved it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for a copy of this book.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I wouldn't consider this to be a book full of twists but this read definitely brought me back to the greatness of Colleen Hoover's original works. I would consider this book a YA Contemporary Romance and I loved every second of it. The story is about a mother and daughters relationship and their struggle to trust each other. My favorite characters from this book were Miller and his grandfather. The ending - oh my gosh! Colleen truly knows her way into our hearts. #CoHo
Do you ever wonder if your life would be different if you had made different choices? Have you ever been asked if you have regrets? Regretting You delves deep into how we live our lives around the consequences of the choices we make in life.
📨Morgan Grant is a stay at home mom who married her high school sweetheart, who got her pregnant at seventeen. She now wonders if there’s more to life than making breakfast burritos for her husband, Chris, and her sixteen-year-old daughter Clara. Her daily routine is just that, routine. Morgan and her daughter don’t see eye to eye on anything these days, especially Clara’s choice in boys. Morgan just doesn’t want Clara to make the same mistake she made by getting pregnant so young.
📨Clara can’t believe that Miller Adams, sucker-sucking, truck driving Miller Adams, would even look her way. He’s been ignoring her for what seems like years at school. But Clara makes a choice to pick Miller up on the side of the road on a steamy, hot day and sets things in motion that will only drive her and her mom farther apart.
📨Suddenly, Morgan’s routine life is shattered by one phone call. There’s been a tragic accident - it’s Chris. As details unfold, Morgan’s heart is broken once again by secrets that are revealed. Now she must try to protect Clara and rebuild their life. When it seems life can’t be any more uncertain for Morgan, someone from her past questions if she ever regrets the choices she made.
This was my first Colleen Hoover book, and it won’t be my last. I loved her writing and the alternating point-of-views between mother and daughter. Although the story was a bit predictable in places, the natural dialogue and relatable characters easily made up for it.
I’m so excited to be a part of the #bookishbuddybingeread for this book with my #bookishladiesclub pals.
Thank you to @netgalley, @colleenhoover and Montlake Romance for this ARC for review.
Pick up this book December 10th
4.5 Stars
Regretting You is Colleen Hoover’s latest novel where she tackles difficult emotions and an impossible situation.
Regretting You may be Hoover’s most difficult novel to read for more than one reason. The story tackles grief, love, and infidelity and the characters emotions and reactions. The story also addresses a situation where there is no one way to handle the elicited emotions, so processing my own thoughts and feelings and those of the characters makes Regretting You a heavy read.
Regretting You is told through two perspectives, the mother and daughter, Morgan and Clara. Morgan fell victim to teenage pregnancy and became an adult quickly. Clara is a typical teenager looking forward to college. Therefore, you have two characters who have had different adolescent lives making their personalities even more different than their age gap suggests.
Clara irritated me to no end. I had to put the book down in some instances to distance myself from her actions that I found to be immature and annoying. I think this is a testament to Hoover’s writing, understanding of emotion and character to elicit such strong feelings from readers. Clara is a teenager and she acts like one, even when it is detrimental to her likeability as a character.
Regretting You focuses heavily on Morgan and Clara’s relationship. The clichéd notion that mother daughter relationships during the teenage years are fraught with turmoil is on full display. Almost all the tension throughout the novel is caused by Morgan and Clara’s deliberate miscommunication.
The reason I rated the novel 4.5 stars is that as much as I enjoyed it, I did not love it as much as I have loved Hoover’s previous novels. Maybe the heavy subject matter made the novel difficult to read at times or maybe my expectations were in the wrong place, but whatever the reason I still thoroughly enjoyed Regretting You, especially the ending. Without going into spoilers, the ending of the novel was easily the best part. It is adorable and is quintessential Hoover.
This is my first CoHo book and I have to say man have I been missing out. I could not put it down. I just needed to know where these characters were going to end up. This story focuses on the mother/daughter relationship of Morgan and Clara as they navigate their lives after a tragic accident. I loved how it was told through alternating points of views. Seeing how differently they each dealt with grief, family issues and love. The characters are so relatable. Morgan and Clara’s story is so heartbreaking but at the same time hopeful and full of romance. This book gave me all the feels. I mean she did not hold back with this one. This was a great read.
Thank so much to Colleen Hoover and Netgalley for my copy!
A huge thank you to NetGalley, Colleen Hoover and Montlake Romance for allowing me to read and review this book prior to its publication. This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I was absolutely in shock when I received the email that I was approved. What a privilege.
I have been a CoHo fan for years and have read a number of her books. Its really hard not to compare this to my favorites. If I had to line them all up this one would fall in the middle. It was really good but it did not blow me away.
Things I Loved:
The Writing- Colleen Hoover can really write a book yall. Her books tend to be really addictive fast reads for me. Although I labeled this book as not the best of what I've read by her, it was hard to put down.
The Format- This book is told in dual perspectives. You get an adult point of view and a young adult point of view. I love this in books. Usually when this happens I pick a favorite but I equally enjoyed reading both narratives.
The Characters- Characters make the story for me. Colleen Hoovers characters are always unique and interesting. I was completely invested in the mother daughter relationship in this book. Everything and everyone one else was necessary. It all fit together well but I could have cared less about the romances.
The Twist- There is a twist about a quarter the way into the story that I did not see coming.
My Biggest Gripe:
Clara the teenage daughter acting like a teenage daughter. Her words and actions really frustrated me. It wasn't like I was mad or anything. I was just extremely annoyed.
Even Morgan (the mom) at times. It was so important to her to keep secrets to protect her daughter and on the inside I was like just blow that shit upppppp please lol
Overall I do recommend friends and fellow readers to pick this up. For those of you excited for this book: Stay excited! It's really good. I will always look forward to what Colleen Hoover writes and will be purchasing a finished copy when the book releases in December.
This was my 2nd book by this author, but as everyone kept telling me that Verity was nothing like her other books, I chose to give this one a try. I loved Regretting You. It kept me on my toes, and I laughed and cried with the characters and I couldn't put it down.
I dont write reviews for all the books I read but I did attach a link to my blog here.
I finished this book about week and a half ago, I have been trying to come up with the words to make this a great review because that's what this book deserves. This book completely broke my heart and then put it all back together again. I went into reading this without know anything about the book. I really liked how it had two points of view; one of a 17 year old and the other of a 34 year old. Made it interesting to get both sides of what was going on throughout the book. I was completely shocked and thrown for a huge loop while reading Regretting You. I think I am still in the middle of a book hangover from this one. One thing I can say is you will NOT Regret reading Regretting You.
CoHo does it again!
I only discovered Colleen Hoover as an author this summer and this is my fourth CoHo book. Although not my favorite I've read, Regretting You was a 5-star read for me.
It started out a touch slow and I was worried that it was going to be too predictable, but, my goodness, the twists!
I ended up reading this one in 3.5 hours and stayed up well into the night to finish. I can't believe how much I wanted to know the ending.
Great job, Colleen!
Definitely add this to your to-be-read list!
I'm not sure how Colleen Hoover is able to rip your heart out, stab it, put a band aid on it, and then give it back to you. I'm not even going to try to describe how amazing this book is. You should just know by the author's name that this book is going to destroy you and then put you back together again.
ughh!!! This book was just- the emotion that just bursts our from the pages will capture you and never let you go.
It's like cutting the crust off a sandwich before you eat it, trimming the fat off of a big steak before enjoying the tender juicy center, or cutting away the cake to get straight to the molten chocolate in the middle. THAT is how I would describe this book. It's straight to the point and full speed ahead to all the tasty and indulging parts it has to offer. I appreciate that the author touched upon real-life issues that affect teenagers and adults. She did a flawless job at pinpointing exact reactions and emotions from her main characters (Morgan and Clara) without minimizing their feelings because of their age difference. Exceptional writing, characters you wish existed in real life (Jonah) and others that are so relatable it's scary. Twisted flashbacks and real-life, heartfelt, moments that force you to feel every emotion. Honestly, if you’ve ever been to hell and back because of love, and I mean any kind of love, this book is for you.
This book was so well written, I found that I could not put it down and I finished it in a day. At times I wanted to go through the pages and shake the characters to get them to listen to each other and to do what I thought they should be doing. I loved that this book was written in the perspective of two of the characters to give it more depth, you really felt like you were with them every step of the way. One point at the beginning I even gasped out loud because I was so shocked at a turn the book made.
I highly recommend.

I Love CoHo’s writing. I love her stories. I love her charters. Always have. But one of the things I love the most, without a doubt is her ability to somehow make you connect and feel regardless of what the plot is. You may not have experienced the same circumstances as the characters but you sure have felt the same way about someone or something at some point in your life. I think it’s how she just managers to get even the smallest of details so right you cannot fail to relate. Regretting You was absolutely no different in this.
When I originally read the synopsis for this one I was so eager to read it. Having a teenage daughter myself I knew before I even read the first word that I would find some understanding. But the plot goes beyond the mother and daughter relationship and its occasional struggles (note it was actually really great to read about a relationship that was generally loving). The plot also deals with grief, betrayal and missed opportunities in life, and of course regrets. I also really liked that Clara was generally a good kid and Morgan was a good mum. I think the different POV enabled the reader to understand both sides really well.
Also that ending was the cutest! In fact I’m gonna put this one right next to my OG favourite Ugly Love.
Finding passion in life after fulfilling everyone else’s dreams. Time to live life for herself after living through the aftermath of loss.
This is a lesson on love and the effect it has on everyone’s lives.
Overall:
Once again I find myself enraptured by the words Colleen has gifted me, the reader. Hook line and sinker, I’m so caught up in this story just like all the others she’s written before this one. I tell you this woman is gifted in the creative department. It’s no wonder she’s a best selling author. She makes reading fun and entertaining. This story is simple and easy to read, yet the emotions and feelings that it creates in me is complex and complicated. Colleen hits all the marks for what it takes to captivate her readers. For me anyway.
Colleen is really good at writing the emotional side of her characters. I’m not sure I have any heart strings left to pull after reading all her books. I can’t imagine sitting down for the first time to read one of her books then decide to read them all from start to finish. I’d be a puddle of goo after draining my life source of emotions. Yet I wouldn’t want to miss out on each one. I don’t envy anyone who hasn’t yet discovered Colleen’s books because to sit down and start from the beginning would require a bulk size box of tissues. I got a little teary eyed during the video. Sniff. Sniffle.
I see so much of Colleen’s personality shine in these characters actions and words. The scene with the picture sounded very much like something Colleen has done. I hate how Colleen has me reflecting on myself with her good hearted characters. They sicken me with there ability to have each other’s back. I’m jealous of them. It makes me want better for myself by surrounding myself with these types of individuals only I don’t know how to find them.
BTW orange isn’t the worse color. I think it’s yellow.
